One of the most attractive places in DC is The National Gallery of Art. The east building has various modern art exhibitions, such as Magritte, Matisse, and Picasso. Although your members do not like art, you guys enjoy together here, because here is easy to understand. No need knowledge to Art. Must visit the top and meet the blue rooster. On the underground, there is a moving way to The West building.
Impeccable selection of some of the greatest art in the world. Alexander Calders mobile sculpture creates an amenable ambiance of inspiration. A MUST SEE when you come to the District of Columbia!
This building remains an exceptional place, even after many visits. First the architecture, how 3 inversed trangels have been put together as a huge museum, repeating the triangel in every object: from floortiles, staircases, ceilingstructures etc. This building brings peace in my head. But also the collection and the exhibitions. This time the impressive collection of Rothko works, on a rotating display. But also the exhibitions of, to me, unknown artists. This time the amazing work Rachel Whiteread till January 13th, 2019. A very well made documentary on here life and work is diplayed also and makes you understand her work. And all this for free? Wish I lived in the area, just for this reason.
The second building of the National Gallery of art but still worthwhile to visit.
It has been 16 years since I was able to go to the National Gallery of Art so I was so glad to be able to visit the East Gallery! I was so surprised to how wonderful the building was and how wonderful the art was! The setup is absolutely amazing and it is such a beautiful place. We also enjoyed the cafeteria food which was acceptable. I do have to say that the relaxed atmosphere underneath the building is so lovely with the fountain and flowing water. Nice place to relax!
An amazing space with awesome art. This is the east side of the National Gallery and although it has some late works of artists, it focuses mostly on modern art and does it superbly. Also, it had a room full with just Modiglianis paintings. But to me the highlights were the pieces by Andy Warhol, Picasso, Klimt and Kandinsky.
Iconic modern art museum on the national mall ️
Don’t miss out the highlight artworks! I loved it :)
People, art, architecture and light interact to create one of the most vibrant public spaces in the United States at the East Building of the National Gallery of Art. The East Building was designed by architect I. M. Pei.
The scale of the building is amazing. Great place to view art
It was beautiful and has little of everything. The Cafè was good.
Modern art place. Visit is free and the staff is nice.
This is a place to wander. Since its free to get in, its work it just to give a half day off touring to each building. The space is well designed and leads you to the next room in progression. Every security or volunteer is helpful and knowledgeable about where to look and occasionally some greens of stories.
Didnt really like the naked paintings of some of the artist that travelled. But i guess its different in certain countries. The Japanese portion was nice. Most of the art seemed abstract and modern
All the 20th century art: Picasso, Siqueiros, Duchamp, Rivera, Magritte, Kandinsky, Warhol and more
Small building, but beautiful works. First time I ever saw my favorite artist Georgia OKeeffes paintings in person! The museum itself is a work of art.
The modern art collection is pretty standard and, just like my review of the museums collection on the main building, is terribly lacking in diversity. That said, I did find Alexander Calders work interesting and was the one thing that stood out for me. Oh and the building too - what an architectural eye candy! You really have to see it to appreciate it.Admission is free, although most things for sale - food, gifts, and souvenirs - are priced steeply.
The building it is a piece of art in itself.
Mmm ... modern art. If you get it, you get it. Very spacious and bright place.
Gorgeous building with lots of great views. We definitely preferred the East building of the National Gallery of Art. They have a great Calder exhibit that is a must see, and an outdoor roof terrace with a good view to the capitol. The cafe was small but good, and had nice views outside and to the museum.
This is a great art museum. We were fortunate enough to get tickets to an Evening at the Edge event. Such fun!!
Some of the art cannot be described as such. A black plank leaning against a wall was one of the exhibits. That isnt art. If the janitor was to toss most of it unawares, it would probably improve the modern art museum. That said, we did have fun making fun of the ridiculous things there, and spent a good bit of time there.
The art installations are breathtaking. The building and the mood of every gallery is striking.
Great opportunity to see many American artists at home.
The main building of the National Gallery gets all the foot traffic, but the East Building is a great stop for anyone who wants something a little quieter. Its generally home to more modern exhibits, and has a stunning design after an extensive remodel recently.
One of my favorite art museums, I love this place!
This is a very spacious museum with lots of art pieces. Temporary exhibitions are impressive. I can stay whole day here.
2 star because the building is cool but I dont get it though. If I vomited in a bucket that would be better art than what was inside.
Beautiful collection
Beautiful, breathtaking architecture and a fascinating collection of interesting art.
I just love the space, with all the angles and light and sculptures tucked in here and there. The art collection is mesmerizing as well.
The coffee and gelato store in the basement is a must. The gelato is way over priced $4 for a small. The salted caramel was amazing. I wouldnt say $4, but still pretty good. Excellent art work and good exhibits.
Modern art
Rude staff that make up rules that make no sense.
Beautiful - and free
Terrace cafe
Beautiful building — in and of itself a work of art!
Really nice place !
Excellent
Love the whole building
Yet another art library
Nice
Great exhibits
