It was truly an experience. The art is in order from latest to newest. The passage at the end of the tour brings it all together. It helps give better understanding to why those pieces were selected.

Strangest and most awkward experience I have ever had at a museum. The moment my friend and I got downstairs, we were being started at by the student workers (I assume thats who it was with it being on a university). We were told we could not point at the art work. I can understand no touching but pointing? My friend was trying to point something out for me to see in the piece of art and he got told not to. After that moment, an older gentleman and the girl who told us not to point, followed us around and stared at us the entire visit. Every turn we made, one of them would be right there making sure they could see us. They never once stopped staring, even as a glanced at them with a puzzled look. It was so awkward and strange to be stared at like that as if we were doing something wrong. I felt like we were not welcome there! The museum was small but had beautiful and interesting exhibits. I will never go back though.

Great but can be very confusing and slow for some.

It was much smaller than I expected but the art was memorable.

A very nice two story art museum. The space was completely dedicated to the works of Howerdena Pindell and covered a very wide range of her work.

Friendly, accessible and interesting. Art that focuses on social issues.

The mid-century building by Harrison and Abramovitz adds to the experience of viewing art. I was unfamiliar with Howardena Pindell and appreciated the opportunity to see a range of her work and learn about her life.

A hidden GemOne reviewer clearly didnt see the gorgeous wing built in 2001 (Really people you neednt take your crankiness out in reviews)From the Rose website: Lois Foster Wing, Rose Art Museum, Brandeis UniversityThe original Master Plan for Brandeis University was developed by Eero Saarinen and featured individual buildings atop the hilly, pastoral setting as temples, rejecting the traditional closed collegiate quadrangle model. The pavilion-like original Art Museum, built in 1961, is a classic International Style structure. The first phase of the program called for expansion of the 15,000-square-foot museum in an addition of 8,800 square feet. The buildings will reveal many surprises talk to the lovely student docents!I was looking at a complicated black metal flat (is that called relief?) and wasnt sure what to think beyond thats cool only to have a student come up and explain to me the artists message and background. It was a revelation once I understood the slave imagery. All these little hidden aspects!I was meeting my son, a student (no Im not biased. He had nothing to do with the museum) and his buddy who did, laughed at me because I am very uncomfortable with open stairs or worse, walking on glass floors. He explained the Wildest story! An art instillation in 2013 included mirrors and glass. It was so beloved they kept it (entry at desk) :Walead Beshty has created a mirror and glass floor that runs throughout both levels of the building. The thin top layer of glass will crack as visitors walk through the museum.“The glass actually cracks under pressure, so you participate in the production of art,” Bedford says. “The marks made by our various visitors will become a permanent record.”Not for me! What could be worse than cracking glass??I Always found parking in the circular driveway directly in front of the Rose. Brandeis is, for better or worse, a one way system. Off South Street they force you right. Just continue along and youll see the Castle, various department buildings, student affairs (crosswalk!) Winding up and down past the temple and green Saarinen designed campus. Eventually the Rose will be on your right. Youre already going slowly due to students and obtrusive wild turkeys, so dont miss the museum pull around!Enjoy your time. Waltham has many treasures make this one. Free.

Great modern art museum, right on the Brandeis campus with free admission. They have a changing collection of contemporary art on display that is well-curated, and the museum often brings in artists for talks. They also have stools for students who want to sit and observe or draw the art.

Its modern art. Loud, disturbing, and random. I was hoping to learn something about the art form, but despite being in an educational institute, I guess its not that kind of place. I left as ignorant as I entered, having no real impression to share.
