Beautiful beach... however. The bus ride out here was 2 damn hours. And of course it was overcast the whole time I was here. Super lame. But its pretty sweet, and there was a massive turtle in the water right next to me... i could have touched it! I didnt, but still pretty sweet. I love this beach. Just wish it were closer to me!
The energy of this place is something special. Longboard, shortboard, body board, bodysurf. Large sandy beach allows for hangout without needing to get near people. The water can have big waves or small. Be careful with the shore break. Lifeguards are always present and watchful. Beach itself has very little shade and is out of the way for most people.
This is a hidden gem towards the end of one of the main roads on this side of the island. The sunsets are beautiful, the sand is super soft, and the waves are gentle in the winter/spring. I would definitely recommend making the trip up here. I found a few shells to fix a pair of shell earrings I bought—you’ll easily find more here than in North Shore. There’s also coral, shells, and stones that wash up so if you want to pick up a shell or something it’s easy to find something nice. Be aware that certain parts of the beach drop quickly in the ocean so you can’t stand on the sand and be mostly submerged at 5’4. It just depends on where you are on the beach. I came here three times in one week in my last visit. The wind can pick up but it passes quickly.
Its a beautiful beach like most beaches in Hawaii. Whats nice about it is that it is never to crowded..The sand is nice and soft. More powder less grainy type of sand. Only downside is that it is so far away unless you happen to live that side of the island.
I love this beach. There are areas that are calmer and I can float in a ring with my littles. Swim out a few hundred yards and see some rays or turtles and beautiful fish. Surfing on the north side of the beach. Expansive beach for playing. Gets busy on weekends, but sparse during the week days!
My favorite beach. Surfers to the far right are fun to watch for non surfers. Family friendly as they all look out for the boogie boarders to keep them safe a little to the east. Further east is a fun ocean where you can body surf. The beach is huge, sand is fine and soft, and people are friendly. Changing station and restroom are across the street along with a parking lot many visitors miss. Pack a meal and make a day of it!
Great beach if you enjoy surfing and bodyboarding. May not be suitable for family with small children or beginner swimmer as wave can be very rough.
I love it to go here with my family or grandma to swim because its a awesome place if you want waves you should go on the waves side or by the waves side because there some waves by there too. And watch out for the surfers they might hit you but that only happened to me once but it didnt hurt but you can sit on the sand kinda and watch the entertainment of the surfers and the people with the very long boards but mostly to make sure you watch out for the surfers and its kind deeper the the calm side and might get more rocks but this beach is the BEST!
Nice spot but normally alot of people
LifeGaurd actually drove by just in time. When I had slipped on a rock and scrathed my side.He wrapped my leg for me and I thought that was so nice.
A serene scenery filled with fun sand and clear blue water.
Wednesday 3-11-2020 at 4:30, my rental car was vandalized. While parked next to other cars at the end of Kili Dr. to go for a quick swim with my wife, the passenger window was shattered to steal a bag out of the back seat. The bag contained an inflatable kayak. I should know better and would have put it in the trunk but the car trunk was too small. I hope those who stole this very decent Advanced Elements Island Voyage 2 kayak are wishing the worst karma upon themselves and any who use the boat in the future. This review is an advisory to others that may visit this beach in the future. Dont keep anything valuable or visible in your parked car!
Decent local spot. When the water is calm, you will see scuba divers out here. When the waves are here, it’s a nice place to watch surfers. More cars are broken into at this beach than other beaches. If you are a diver, make sure someone is watching your gear- several people I know have had gear stolen here. Locals have also attempted to steal food and items we had on our blankets while we were sitting right there. It’s a nice beach, but you have to be more aware of your belongings than at other beaches.
When its flat, its very easy to go out. Lots of room, can watch your car, showers in 2 locations.
Beautiful sandy beach far away from the noise and traffic of Waikiki, but only if one doesnt mind the near 50 mile drive towards the other lesser used end of the island of Oahu. The current is strong around here for recreational swimming, however the waves are lovely for the surf seeking adventurers. There are also sand banks to slide down on body boards and hit the waves, a delightful activity for adrenalin kids.
Loved this beach! We came to see buffalo surf competition but it was canceled but we enjoyed the water so much here! It was hot enough outside you actually wanted to be in the water to stay cool! Ahhh! The sand is nice and soft. We were glad to have a shade tent available. You can snorkel and few safe with the kids. We also moved to the side near the bigger waves to let them try bodyboarding. The bathroom and shower available just across the street and a beautiful sunset made me feel like I would love to come back and hang out here again!
OMG - the sunsets here and the lack of people are AWESOME - there were only a couple of dozen people here the Sunday evening I visited and I was told they had never seen so many people there.Beautiful sands, beautiful water, and the BEST place to watch the sunset. The incline going down to the water on one end of the beach was kind of steep, but fun to run down - especially for the young kids that were out there. The surf was fun but not too strong. If you walk to the left (as you’re facing the water), you can walk along some rocky parts of the beach and even hike up to the top of a very tall hill and scope out the sunset from there. This beach is SHEER BLISS!
Love this beach park. Restrooms are easy to access and plenty of sand for everyone. Parking is good also. Excellent views of nearly any sunset.
Wow! This is an amazing beach. Most of the local kids come here to surf. So you get to watch them surf, fail, surf again and again with an unending enthusiasm. My 7 yr old had a lot of fun making tunnels and pathways and had his share of fun getting wet. Tides are high and big. So, if you are a beach lover and enjoy the sound of waves then its a must visit. Very crowded with lots of people around and I read somewhere that you must keep your belongings with you because there is a lot of theft around here but we personally haven’t experienced anything like that.
Great beach with some fairly easy waves for everybody. I visited in early spring and the waves werent anything crazy, but the undertow was very strong. It was easy to swim back to the shore, just be careful. The beach was clean, had lots of scenery, and is a very welcoming place. A lot of local people were there and out body surfing, surfing, and boogie boarding. Overall an amazing, quiter beach with great scenery and a family friendly place.
This is such a great beach to go snorkeling at on a calm day when the water is clear cause theres a lot of sea here that just chill while they get their shells cleaned by the resident in the bay. Just be careful and check weather conditions before you go because sometimes this beach gets big and has a strong current!
Great surf spot. Only thing is the glare of the sun but oh well. Makes for a killer sunset spot too.
Good surfing and great sandy beach!
Nice beach. Strong waves. Ample parking. Lifeguard post, so guessing theres one on duty during specific hours. Far from pretty much everything. Some local restaurants nearby.
It was a beautiful day for a friend Memorial Service.
Not overcrowded beach and a lot of sand (unlike Waikiki beach!) was my favorite beach on the island (because of the size and quietness). Went for great swims.. Beware of current changes in intensity...
Family friendly place with plenty space on the sand to lay your things. Parking is pretty limited, though...
I was raised Makaha it is a nice beach to swim, surf, and bodyboard
Beautiful beach and surrounding area. Such an incredible place. Brought my 3-year old and 9-month old and they had a blast. A bit of an undertoe, but not so bad they couldnt enjoy it. Highly recommended.
Big waves in winter perfect for surfing and body boarding. Smaller calm waves in summer. Met aqua man (Jason) here! Love this beach.
It has great low surf for kids to play. Some awesome sea shells found here! Not too crowded. Good parking, getting out of space was fairly easy.
Amazing view and right off the road, park and just walk on to the beach.
Makaha is a beautiful n relaxing beach.Great surfing n diving when the water is flat. The locals out there are very humble n caring. One of my favorite surf spots to play.
Very nice beach. Not very crowded. The bathrooms are not serviced regularly. Always carry your own hand sanitizer, toilet paper and paper towels. This is true on many of Oahu beaches.
Beautiful beach!! We lucked out and got to see a surf competition while visiting. Super cool!! View behind the beach of the valley is AMAZING!!!
Our go-to beach to watch the sunset before heading home! You can watch surfers and play in the waves. Be careful of potential fire ants in the parking lot.
Perfect waves and sunset
Good surf spot!
Nice park to see the sunset
Hate it ugly place ugly people no go there you get one pretty girlfriend and one nice ride you might end up walking home by yourself... Just saying
Very beautiful and clean beach, has fresh water rinsing stations, and public toilets. Just bring your own toilet paper and wet wipes just to be sure. Id say the most active marine life, and beautiful reef on the west side, just need to swim out 2 to 3 hundred yards out.
Grew up in Makaha....Still my favorite beach.
Beautiful beach with mountainous backdrop. Mild waves compared to elsewhere on the island. Not overcrowded, plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the beauty this beach has to offer.
Very beautiful beach. Good for surf.
Saw turtles in the water, large waves and beautiful beach. Mountain view as well. Free parking. Took the C bus.
Viewed turtles and dolphins at this location. Beautiful views
Very nice beach.
Beautiful wide sandy beach
Nice beach. There are better places to snorkel though. Some garbage in the water (probably innocent from the wind - not illegal dumping) that put me off
I loved it the water was perfectly warm its best to have swim shoes though due to the coral reef. The beautiful little fish I saw with Goggles on it was like being in a tropical Aquarium lol. A beautiful sea turtle was there just resting hopefully. The Lifeguard came and told me dont sit with it because others would come. I was very concerned but what could I do Granny will just keep that beautiful creature in my prayers in Jesus name Amen .
Wonderful beach on the sunnyside! Our favorite : nice waves and not crowded as other beaches.
Tourist here! This beach was so nice! The sand felt so amazing under our toes. The parking was clearly marked, the entrance was easy to access and the beach wasnt too crowded. You can find secluded parts of this beach that arent inhabited by the large homeless population out here. I would suggest bringing spare food and water with you so you can spend some time relaxing. We donated some food and water to a couple homeless folks near us after our visit.
Nice place to go and spend with the family. Lacks public restrooms from what I can tellAlthough there are several beaches before and after that do have public restrooms. The water is clean but youll have to go to the left as the right side is strictly for surfing and bidyboarding.
Great space but sparse trees to put up a hammock. Just my own preference. Other than that, very quiet and lovely.
Peaceful, relaxing, and breathtaking views beach side and of the mountainside behind the beach.
Very nice place ... not many people and good waves
Here some pictures of the water its beautiful in the morning and during the afternoon its a little rough because it gets hot but it doesnt have good swimming conditions because the waves are pretty big when they break at the shore and then It gets deep pretty quickly so this isnt a good swimming beach but for surfing it is great it has pretty consistent waves around 8 feet tall.
Aloha, Makaha is Beautiful in every corner ... if youre a tourist the swim can be strenuous and there is a heavy riptide. Mahalo !
My top three beaches on Oahu. Bring sunscreen cause theres no shade on the beach but totally worth it.
Iconic Makaha Beach. Small, world reknown beach in Oahus westside, 35 miles from Honolulu. Surf or body board. Good for snorkeling when the surf is smaller. Limited parking. Restroom.
Best Beach. Hands down!
Quiet beach with lifeguards at each end. Bathrooms across street. Food truck parks there on some days. Can usually surf at the North end, middle of beach normally calm.
I havent found a beach I didnt love. Great views here! Not to far from stores and restaurants to grab something for a picnic. Plenty of room for all kinds of activities.Atmosphere is wet (in the water) sunny and Sandy.
Best sunsets. But lock your doors/protect valuables.
One of my favorite beaches on Oahu.
Great beach to chill
The most Beautiful beach nestled in incredibly colored mountainside
Beautiful beach. Most people go to Waikiki but we were in this area and the views were amazing. Not crowded so you can relax and enjoy the cool water.
Perfect small beach! Good waves for surfing as well. Close to anything
My favorite place.
Beautiful waters!
Had a great time going into the bay and seeing Dolphins, Turtles and Corral.
This is one of the best beaches on Oahu. Beautiful ocean. Just great please to swim. You have to be a good swimmer to swim here, the current is strong.
Very relaxed beautiful beach with lots of space and parking! Warm water, and great to hang out in or venture further into the waves. Showers and restrooms across the street with extra parking, which is very convenient.
Very clear water, white sands, fairly big waves. Good for novice surfers. Not so good for young kids or non-swimmers. Few tourists make it this far so plenty of space. Good facility but its a long stretch of beach so you may need to walk a long way to reach the restrooms.
What a beautiful beach out on the Leeward Coast to sun tan and meet wonderful friends where you fine the Spirit of Aloha which is Love for the people and visitors
The waves was pounding around 6 ft facing shrore, plus its a nice & warm sunshine day.
The beach was close to the accommodation and so we visited it especially in the evening after a days travel around Oahu. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of watching surfers.
Gorgeous beach! Amazing water. Quick drop off from the shore- you can snorkel and see pretty fish here. Very nice!
Beautiful beach! Very clean with good waves
One of my favorite spots on Oahu. Not to crowded, ever, surf is great, and the sea turtles were amazing to see in person. The west is the best part of Oahu in my opinion.
Chill beach. Lovely day.
Another beautiful spot! Ttv
Great beach. Sometimes has some amazing food trucks
Great find!!! Clean. Lifeguarded. No restrooms. Bring your food as there are no facilities nearby. Easy parking. Worth the drive for sure!
Ate lunch there... was nice.
Its so beautiful ! Perfect to relax and get a tan or even have a bbq with family ! Life guards are there during the day who are quick helpful and trusting! Showers are across the street with a cross walk that has wide speed bumps about a 100 feet from cross walk so very safe !
Great spot!
This was just after the sunset. This beach was about 8 minutes away from the condos we were renting. It was awesome where we were their was not a lot of people on the beach and my wife my son and I all had a great time playing on the beach.
One of the best beaches on the island in my opinion!
