Absolutely LOVE this museum!!! A hidden gem of Virginia Beach! My 10 and 8 year old boys enjoyed chatting to the volunteers, asking questions and listening to stories that were shared! The volunteers were so patient with them and very knowledgeable. It wasnt very crowded and we got to go on a dinosaur hunt after! All in all a great place to visit! We will definitely be back! Going to check the website and hopefully catch a show!
This was a nice thing to do with my daughters. All of these plabe are still able to fly. The offer air shows and plane rides(for a fee of course). Overall a nice experience and they had volunteers that can answer all of your questions. Very pleasantly surprised at how much they all knew collectively. Everyone lights up at the opportunity to talk about the different displays.
We truly enjoyed this place, the volunteers were knowledgeable about all the planes. My son loves WW2 plane era. He was so excited to see the Corsair and British hurricane. I was excited about the P-51!
We had no idea this exhisted out in the Pungo area. We enjoyed walking around and seeing all these old planes from all over the world from world war II. There were also some old cars to see. It was very exciting to see each one. There is also a dinosaur walking area to take the kids to see. You can take a lunch with you and eat at the picnic tables. Enjoyable day.
The volunteer guides are super knowledgeable and friendly. Being able to get close to the planes without touching is amazing.
The aviation museum was an awesome stop to see a wide array of beautifully restored/reproduced aircraft from throughout history. Lots of succinct information displays with specs and the history of each aircraft, and friendly staff/volunteers hanging out to answer questions!A kudos as well to the Fighter Factory down the road for doing such amazing work to keep these planes in the air.
Very nice little jem tucked a little off the beaten path. Well worth a visit! Very nice collection of WW2 Russian planes, and my favorite the Coursair!
Raining so all the planes were inside which made it even better! We were able to take our time looking at and taking pictures of all of them. The folks were nice and very knowledgeable about the history of each aircraft. Start to finish AWESOME time. Highly recommended!!
This is an old hanger turned into a museum. It was interesting to see the old planes & a Ford Jeep and some motorcycles from WWI & WWII and a plane similar to the Wright Bros first flight. There were also several planes outside, however, we did not go see those due to rain. We went for a special event held in the hangar there that was catered with entertainment provided by 2 members of the Sister Hazel band. There was also a gift shop on site.
Nice, well kept historical plane collection from WWI and WWII.Worth to visit to airplane lovers when you are in the area.
Museum with working aircraft from both world wars allied and axis and soviet planes a hangar brought over from Germany. Guide was extremely knowledgeable. Many very cool aircraft to see. A great history lesson of military aviation.
I loved seeing all the different planes that has been used in battle. Plus we got to see a P20 take off.
We visited the museum early on a Thursday morning. It was not crowded. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They have a large number of vintage military aircraft from the first half of the 20th Century and other artifacts from the World Wars.
I love this place. Limited because the virus but still worth it. Staff was very informed on all planes and land vehicles. Great energy!
Great museum! Tons of planes, entrance fee is not bad.
We were shown around your incredible museum by Commander (Retired) Tim Leighton. He was fantastic, showing a depth of knowledge that was beyond impressive. I would come back just to hear him talk about the many exhibits. He was wonderful. How you found a volunteer with his breadth is amazing. Hes a keeper.
Seriously one of my favorite museums. They have a wonderful selection of WW1 and WW2 aircraft. I felt very safe with the precautions they are taking for covid.
Amazing collection and everyone there is so friendly! Special shout out to David and Bob. They are both so sweet, informative and passionate about what they do!
What a great place! Dont miss the best around here. So much history!
Even with COVID measures in place, this place is awesome! From WWI to WWII to dinosaurs, theres so much cool stuff!Great for 2 - 92!!!
It was a long wait, but nice to get to see this exhibit during these trying times! Enjoy!
Excellent Museum. Didnt get to visit much; however, all the aircraft are in working order. Not your normal static displays.
We went here for Biplanes and Beers. It was fun and educational. This is a great place to come with friends and children. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful. The money is worth it knowing that it all goes to the education, restoration and preservation of the historical aircraft. This venue houses an amazing display of American history.
Fantastic collection of planes. Highly recommend if you have an interest.
Clean great selection knowledgeable staff, and while they discourage touching nothing is roped off
Nice display of working aircraft from WW 1 and 2.
Loved the historical aircraft. They are their own art form!
Great museum with lots of historical vehicles and aircraft-- many of which are still capable of flight. This museum also has temporary exhibits/events. The day of our visit there was the Christmas model train event. I would recommend a visit, even by those who arent exactly history buffs.
Great afternoon fun. You can look at mist items, touch many, and wonder, or get a tour.Need something to do Inside? Most of the exhibits are indoors, so its a great option for a so-so non beach day.
If a WW1 or WW2 plane buff, it may be great for you. Our kids were pretty much bored instantly. We will be back to see the planes fly. Entry fee $15 per adult is a little steep. Friendly staff. Jerrassic Park (free) was more appealing to our 4 and 2 year old.
A great collection of old war birds.
Excellent place. Jerry Yagen gave an absolutely awesome tour. Great place to visit.
Lots of neat airplanes to look at, but I have to admit, the dinosaur exhibit was one of my favorites.
Wings over the Beach today was a great show. So nicely done. Cant possibly post all my pictures. Traveled down here from MA, and was well worth the trip!! Cant wait to come back! Thank you to the Museum, all the pilots, and all the volunteers who helped pull this off. Highlight for me was the takeoff of the B-25, but everything else was on point too. Such a good show.
If you like planes, military, war history or any combination of those then you need to make time for this! Some really cool planes that you probably wont get a chance to see other places. If you like to read the history you will be there all day. Make time for the tour (you will get to at least 2 other hangers full of planes). Friendly staff. They also have a cool dinosaur garden that would be fun to walk through with kids.
Great place to visit. Staff was really informative.
Very fun museum and a very friendly staff. I got a Tour by Flash, He was an amazing tour guide and made the trip a lot of fun!
Awesome museum, huge collection of WWI and WW2 planes. Very educational.
Nice museum. Wa very impressed with collection. Docent was like a human aviation encyclopedia. Great experience.
Highly recommended if you like planes and history! This place is amazing with both an authentic WWI British hangar with planes and an authentic WWII German hangar with German planes. You need to check your times but highly recommended. The main building is also full of planes to explore.
Came here with my grand sons cub scout pack for a sleepover. They gave us a great guided tour of most of the planes, etc. They have an actual airfield tower that was taken apart brick by brick in England, shipped here and reconstructed. Cant wait for the airshow in May.
Fantastic. Best collection of WW2 fighters Ive seen. Youd have to go to the USAF base in Dayton OH to find an aviation museum on the same level.
Do yourselves a favor. And go here. I mean it. Take the time for the festivals! It was a lot bigger than I originally thought. Every question you have about the planes is answered for the most part. Guys! 75% or more of these planes still fly! The arcticture for the hanger is beautifully done. The owner popped up while we were there. Its obvious to see the appreciation for history here. I will be returning. Its April too. If you have a zoo membership. Its free but only for April! Free parking too. Also they have dinos upfront (free to look) for the little ones.
A must-see if you are in Virginia Beach and interested in military history. They have an extensive collection of planes from all around the world that were used in both world wars and Korea. They also have an actual RAF Control Tower and an original German hangar. The most unique part of the experience is that so many of the planes still can fly. If you get lucky (or come for an event) you might see one take off or land!
Awesome treasure of a place for any aviation enthusiast. Highly recommended.
Great presentation of aircraft from all over the world. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Got to see the B-25 in flight, I can attest these are all in flying shape.
A hidden gem! So many airplanes to see and the volunteers have so many stores to share. We took the guided tour as well as the self guided. Unlike many museums, you are able to walk around the entire airplane up close. They also fly the planes frequently. Highly recommend.
Loved this place. Really great collection of military planes. All but three are in flying condition. They fly one every Saturday. Great staff.
Very informative and all the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable would recommend to all ages just cool and fun to walk through!
Super cool museum. Great for older kids we took our 8 year old and he loved it. It would not have been a good fit for younger kids, we didnt take the 4 year old. Old fragile planes and kids that like to run, touch and go crazy just would have left me a nervous wreck. The 8 year old loved learning about the different planes and history behind them. They also had some flight simulators that were fun for both the kids and adults.
Was very cool. Would like to have seen more. Wish the fighter factory was open. Was hoping to see fighter jets
Incredible. I learned so much on the tour. This turned out to be a lot more than I thought it would be. Very nice place. Go visit!
If you are interested in seeing old war planes then this is the place. They have a great collection of world war 1 and 2 planes used by German and Uk. All planes have been restored to perfection. They have tours as well and you can take a 15 mins flight for a price tag. Its all worth. Parking is free.
I was blown away seeing all that they had for planes. I hated to leave I know we will go back again. The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable about all the planes. Knowing all the plane fly still is ao amazing and will keep in touch on there information for there programs and air shows cant wait to see some fly.
What a gem! This is for everyone one. Took our 9,12 and 2 yr old. Everyone enjoyed it. The all volunteer staff are incredibly! They all are very knowledgeable. We took a small cooler for drinks. Very clean place. So up close and personal with the planes! Ducking under and peeking inside . Big motors roaring!!! I was a starry eyed kid again. We plan to return for their fall show held on the grounds. Even if the weather is poor its a nice time and everything can still be seen
Small place. Super knowledgeable staff. Fully functional planes and a great afternoon
Definitely a must see! The docents were very knowledgeable and there was a lot to see. We will definitely be back.
My daughter did her Girl Scout Gold Award with the museum and Stan Bialas was her mentor! The tours are phenomenal so much to see and stories to be heard. I would go every day if I could!!!
We spent hours here! The veterans there (namely Brad... thank you sir!) Gave us a tour and answered questions. Very informative and interesting! We will go back!
Very Interesting & cool to see all the planes.
Wow, I cant say enough about this museum. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. The collection is fantastic and in working order. I would have paid double the cost to get in once I understood what the have and how close you can get to the planes. I wish I had more time to learn more about their collection. I really enjoyed the hangers they built and recoved from Germany. A must go to destination! Thank you!
Amazing experience! The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Also the fact that youre able to see authentic fighter jets close from WW1 & WW2 is unbelievable. This is a hidden gem and well worth the visit.
Very informative and kid friendly. Thebflight show is a must see, but I would call ahead and see what time theyre doing it, as there is only 1 show a day.
Just a great place! Soooooo many planes. The volunteer staff was the best! Everyone was super knowledgeable and friendly! Even my boys loved it (6 and 3). Also a free dino park that looked rad (didnt have time to make it there).
What an amazing museum! Much more than I thought it would be. If you like airplanes at all, this is highly recommended for a visit.
A hidden jewel of Virginia Beach, this museum has an awesome private collection of static and flying aircraft of the WW1-WW2 era. Both adults and kids will enjoy this diverse selection of warplanes from US, Germany, Russia and Great Britain. There is no admission fee for children under 5. Tours of smaller hangers don’t start until 1045.
This was a quant little find while traveling through Pungo. The aircrafts were amazing!! They even had cars that were quite interesting. Set up was spectacular!! But I was VERY disappointed to not see more history on the womens aviation wall during the first 50 years. I didnt see Bessie Coleman one of the first pilots and stunt women during this time period born in 1892. She was around the same age as Amelia Earhart. Nor did Willa Brown apear on the wall, born in 1906. She was the first woman who obtained a piolots license and an aircraft mechanics license. She was a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol, so she was in the military if that was the criteria needed to be on the wall. Both of these women were first-timers in their area of expertise and were active aviators during the first 50 years of flight. This was the only wall I stopped to read but it discouraged me from reading any more. Maybe there was more complete history in other areas. I hope the museum corrects this.
Really nice display of WWI and WWII airplanes.
Even during the virus this place was awesome to go to. Really cool museum!
Let me tell you all about one of the best kept secrets on the East Coast. The Military Aviation Museum is an amazing experience for sure. I saw a replica of the Wright Brothers aircraft, the plane flown in the movie Flyboys, & the Luftwaffe aircraft from the Third Riech. This is also an amazing place for kids, as the have tons of activities & Gerrasic Park; clever named after the owner & founder of the museum. If you live in the area or are visiting please make this a stop!
$15 admission, free parking, open 9-5 every day but Christmas & Thanksgiving. Plan on 3-5 hours. There are multiple docent-led tours of two other buildings daily lasting 1 1/2 hours (200 yards away: most drove, many walked). If you go on two tours - with different docents - youll effectively get a different tour.
Great place to visit
Awesome. People are very nice. Airplanes are cool.
Amazing collection and almost all of are in working order!
Lots of rare aircraft at this museum. The staff is always a hoot. The air shows are amazing!
Wonderful aircraft display! All the planes fly too. Today it was the B25 and others to.
Great museum with great staff. You can get up close and personal with all the aircraft. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The dinosaur sculptures at the entrance are also very cool.
We had a wonderful time here the planes were all a big part of history. The majority of them still get flown for air shows. We had a volunteer who took us on a tour and gave us alot of great information on the planes. It was fun to be able to understand a bit more about our war hustory.
The best place ever for WWI & II planes
This place is amazing! Very well organized, clean and you can get so close to the planes and other displays. The drive is a bit far, but theres plenty of great places to stop and eat along the way.
Awesome planes and I bought plenty of merchandise!
Best Museum experience we have ever had. They were getting ready for an airshow and were test flying several planes. Took the long tour to the other hangers and it was amazing.
What a great place!! The collection is astounding!! Well educated staff, and the airplane ride was so beautiful. Cant wait to come back.
Great experience with the children, they had alot of planes for them to learn about. Great staff there to help you understand about the history of them. They also did a show of one plane taking off and landing,All of the kids enjoyed it. Gift shop had alot of toys and things to buy as a souvenir for a reminder of the trip.
Very knowledgeable staff had a great time at Bi-Planes & Brews
A lot of plains! Well kept and clean museum. Friendly staff.
Absolutely one aviation museums you need to visit, if you have the slightest interest in warbirds up to the fifties. Many seldom seen planes and a strive to restore them back to original and also keep them flying. The veteran volunteers working there are super nice to talk to and makes your visit soo much more interesting.
If you need a great place for a party i was there with dj bruce silver silverman helping set up for a huge fun wedding party
Well worth the drive. 5 hangers of great old planes and other modes of transportation. Indoor and outside exhibits. Take a ride in a biwing. Super cool.
Excellent experience! Friendly staff, fascinating history
We went to today for Biplanes and Brews it was really awesome. They did and airshow with planes that are part of their museum. The also had different local breweries that you were able to buy samples. For me this is a great way to try new brews. There was also great entertainment. They sang and played music from WW1 era. They also have period reenactments of military camps and a Salvation Army camp. I would definitely go to this event again.
It was great to see all of these old warbirds in such great condition! We even got to see the mechanics start up an F4F Wildcat! Awesome experience!
Well organized. Dust free beautiful
Not only an incredible collection of WW1 & WW2 aircraft and more than a few ground vehicles including a German 88 and a really early Ford GPW Jeep. The neat thing is most of the aircraft are flyable, and are flown at to special events every year at the museum. Kids not into planes? There is a nice garden out front with many life size dinosaurs!. The museum had a fee, but the garden is free.
I went to this museum with my Dad, Uncle, and Brother in law. They have some really neat planes from various wartimes as well as other exhibits both related and unrelated to aviation. It made for a nice afternoon.
What a fun experience! The people that work/volunteer there are so knowledgeable. Great way to spend an afternoon.
This place is amazing. They have so many airplanes from World War II and before. I highly recommend taking a trip out here. If youre just here for vacation or if you actually live in Virginia Beach I would recommend it to both.
