First time here and loved it. Mosquitoes, of course. Dogs LOVED it!We spent over an hour walking the trails. Trails were well maintained and overall the park is beautiful. The memory gardens were sweet to see.People do need to pick up their dog poop better.Everyone we came across at the park were really nice. Well control of their dogs.Definitely will be coming back!
Lots and lots of space. Over 100 acres I believe. Nice trails, varied terrains and lots of spots to stop and enjoy all mother nature has to offer. Its a great park and my Golden, Bob, loves it.
Fun, and dog fun galore. Must warn people considering Covid, not a lot of masks worn .it was a busy day on a Saturday. I say when you come across close contact, people should respect mask rule. Not very happy about this issue.
Great park! I would give it 5 Stars if there were more parking. Even when the parking lot is jammed there is lots of room for dogs and people in the park.
Ive been taking my dogs to dog parks in the Madison/Verona areas for years, and Prairie Moraine Dog Park is by far the best. There are lots of trails available, so you can choose a shorter walk without sacrificing the natural beauty of the Park. We walk the full loop (about 2 miles), and my pups are always tuckered out at the end. My only word of caution is to keep an eye out for untrained dogs - weve had a few close calls where weve seen another dog try biting/running over other dogs completely unprovoked! Although this has been a very uncommon occurrence, its a good idea to always be mindful of how other dogs are behaving. A side note - please dont bring your untrained dogs to the dog park, or if you do, please have them on a leash to protect the other dogs!
Best place to take your dog for off-leash fun. Huge park that takes me about 45 minutes to walk the perimeter. Love it! Beautiful trees, meadows, paths. All is great!
A bit of a drive from downtown Madison but worth it for a long walk through mixed terrain, field, and woods. My dog and I both enjoy the park, which has added a couple of smallish fenced plantings of labeled wildflowers now too!
Wonderful very large dog park south of Verona. They are doing work to make it even better and the trails are usually kept very well. Dont forget to pick up after yourself
Amazing off leash park! 80 acres of trails and hiking spots! Need to bring your own water though for the doggos!
Wonderful hidden gem hidden along Highway PB. Worth the drive for both two-footed and four-footed beasts alike!
Rowdy enjoyed the walk. Good exercise. Would go back again.
Prairie Moraine is a wonderful dog park. Its huge and well kept considering its size. The dogs here are also always so friendly and energetic too! Love this place
Its a nice walk. Gets VERY crowded on the weekends. Always an idiot or two with pit bulls (I think dangerous breeds should not go to dog parks) as well.
Love this park, it has thick woods, paths and roads. So everyone should be happy!
One of the best dog parks in Dane County. Its a huge area with lots of different terrain--dirt, grassy, mulched, and gravel paths for the humans. There are also cut outs that dogs make on their own so plenty of little off shoots for pups to sniff and explore in addition to space to run. Its hilly in spots and if youre not a fan of your dog getting dirty then avoid some of the more heavily wooded areas because there are some mud pits. Also, since it is a heavily wooded area, be sure to check for ticks afterwards (on everyone!). No water, so bring your own. Since it is so big it does seem that dog conflicts are less, but it is easy to lose sight of your dog here, so good recall is important.
Gorgeous! Nice to be on a nature trail with so many dogs running free and loving the day!
HUGE dog park, beautiful views and nice hike! My dog loves it :)
We love Prairie Moraine dog park. It is well maintained and a gorgeous environment. The recently added poetry walk is a fun addition. Love that they have waste bags and garbage cans in the middle of the park. The different terrains add enjoyment for our pupper and give us a work out! There are a few people who can make the experience less pleasant, but the park can’t control that. It is definitely a favorite. Updating with additional pics in April 2019.
If youre looking for a dog park with long walking trails-- this place is THE spot. Highly recommend checking it out!
Beautiful trails with friendly dogs everywhere roaming freely. Whats not to love?
Best dog park I have ever been to. And now with a lot more parking! Dont park where you used to park before they switched the entrance - you wont be able to get in :) You could spend hours here. Treat it like a hike or stay closer to the entrance and let your dog just have a quick romp around. Our dogs always leave happy, tired, and in need of a good rinse!
Been going to this park for over 25 years. Use to the most unique park in Dane County. Very different from the mowed lawns of the others. Would have easily gave it a high 5 until volunteer efforts to restore to Prairie has made it dangerous and unsafe for people and dogs. Trees that once provide vital shade in summer heat and wind breaks in dead of winter are removed leaving acres of stumps causing injuries to dogs and families. Along with the glyphosate and other herbicides they are using making dogs sick. Only thing preventing dogs from injuries in the areas they are clearing is no dog seems to be interested in them anymore.
Lots of trails and walking area. Crowded on weekends.
Wonderful park with lots of room for dogs and great trails.
Best off leash park in the metro area woods, prairie and a great size. But STOP destroying it! They keep going in and ripping out the woods that the dogs love.Oh and they have been using pesticides IN the park. They close the park for the day of spraying but dont do much more than that. Signs are posted that the park will be closed for the day for work on the park but they dont usually mention spraying of pesticides.Met a woman who had tried speaking out and she got ATTACKED in the park, now only going during the day and staying on the main and open paths. Im concerned to let my mom or sister go there alone.
My favorite dog park in the area. Beautiful trails and views. Areas for dogs to play if theyre feeling social or can easily keep to themselves on the trails. I have one dog that loves everybody and everything and another that is still learning to and they both have a blast here. Be careful in the summer though! Theres lots of ticks there right now, so be sure to check yourself and your dog when you get home
Really great dog park - has lovely walking trails that lets you come upon other dogs intermittently, but also keep moving.
Great dog park. One of the best for sure, and huge. Our dogs love it. If you go all the way around (walking) it takes approximately 35-45 minutes. During hunting season you may hear gunshots from land nearby, so if that scares your dog like it does one of ours, just beware of that.
Its nice that theres space between the front gate area and the tables and benches. Fewer chances of a mass greeting, keeps everyone spread out.
Absolutely the best. Wide open spaces and a great base of loyal visitors
Wow this place exceeded my expectations by so much. We have never been to a dog park that was actually a fun walk for humans too! Our dog loved weaving in and out of the bushes, and we got to work on her recall in a safe environment. The trails were also fairly well maintained for a dog park!
Great surroundings and wonderful place for furry children to play.
Huge park with varied terrain, my dogs favorite park.
Best dog park around. It can get busy but there is always a lot of space. Some people get grumpy around jumpy puppies or bring toddlers in, which is odd since it is such a busy dog park.
Muddy but beautiful spring weather. My dogs had a marvelous time, and luckily I keep towels in my car.
Great place. Maxx and I always fun when we go there.
Great dog park. Usually busy. Great place to run with dogs off leash, if youre into that story of thing; )
This dog park is huge with tons of trails, maps, benches and it’s free! Well kept and gorgeous with both woods and open areas it’s worth the drive. Good exercise for both me and the doggies. They have gates and the whole thing is fenced in, they even have water for your pups. My favorite part is the memory forest with trees dedicated to dogs who’ve passed.
I was surprised how large this was. Your dog can get some social time in with other dogs and/or you can get some beautiful off leash hiking in. Lots of space to spread out.
Beautiful walk paths and scenery. Friendly people, and the dogs LOVE IT!!!
Fantastic park, great views, nice people. We use it several times a week. Well maintained
Beautiful scenery and largest dog park Ive ever seen
Best place to hike off leash with your dog. Great landscape, rolling hills, lots of trails.
Very large dog park. Great place to go on a hike with your dog. It is fenced in but large enough that you can lose track of your dog. If your dog is up for it, by far the best dog park in the Madison area.
Love them doggies!
Where to begin? This is a massive park - biggest I have been to in the Midwest - but is still well cared for in mowing, garbage collection, and trail maintenance. There is a certain majesty to the park as you walk the long path up and down hills in between mature trees and open fields. Make sure your dog knows recall or it might be hard to find them!
This is a large, beautiful, well maintained dog park and hiking area. Theres a mixture of wooded hiking and open grass areas. Your dogs are supposed to be registered with your municipality (Madison, Verona, Fitchburg, etc.) and with the park (self registration forms are at the entrance).
Great park. Great churcn nearby. Check them both out.
Ive been to a lot of dog parks all around Madison and this is the number one dog park of all. Great place
Amazing dog park. I wish we had more large dog parks like this around here.
Even compared to large dog parks such as Capital Springs, Token Creek, or Sycamore; Prairie Moraine is huge and far and away the most enjoyable park we have taken our dogs to.Entrance and a couple other larger gathering spots are great for playful dogs and the miles of trails are spectacular for walking out running with your dog.
First off, this Park is huge. Theres so much space to explore that my dog always comes home worn out and ready to rest. The park has a great network of trails, both greasy and wooded, and plenty of open spaces, so theres something for every dog to enjoy.
Best dog park in Dane county! Benches, picnics table, and acres upon acres of groomed trails completely fenced in.
I love this place but more important Lucie loves this place
Provably the best dog park near Madison. Lots of nice wooded trails and paths for dogs to explore. Also, a couple open areas with benches for owners to sit while the dogs play. The first time I went here, I liked it so much I brought my dog twice that day.
Excellent off leash park for dogs. Lots of trails and good view of the terminal moraine. If you want to hike the ice age trail, remember to leash your hound. Not a good place for toddlers unless they are in a backpack carrier.
Gorgeous dog park. So many paths and great views. Really beautiful.
This is absolutely beautiful dog park! Lots of trails, even plenty off the beaten path trails. Well maintained. Very peaceful and relaxing. I live 45 minutes away but Ill be back as often as possible.
This park is an absolute gem of Dane county. I honestly cant believe I havent reviewed it before. We take our dog there regularly and just enjoy the long walk (almost hike) around the park. It seems to almost be about a mile and change loop (maybe closer to two) and its beautiful. Its well managed and such variety for the dogs. I highly recommend the park and think its a top dog park of the country. Point Isabelle in the Bay Area tops my list, but this is close behind. It is a huge park though, so if your dog runs and doesnt come when called you might be in for a very long and hard time finding it. Otherwise, its awesome.
Spacious park with lots of nice trails
Fantastic dog park.
We love going here with our pup! Its very large and has many trails, so you dont get as much dog-to-dog interaction as you would at open dog parks.
Absolutely gorgeous trails and great views of the driftless area
Best dog park ever. So many acres to run. Woods and fields.
Great dog park! Amazing how huge it is. You can get some serious exercise here.
Great dog park with a bunch of different terrain. Not just a large field as many are.
Outstanding park tons of interesting places for your dog to roam
Great dog park, and its hard not to stop at the brewery on the way home!
Amazing place, huge park with dozens of trails for you and your pup to explore.
Great dog park, friendly people and dogs! It provides an awesome environment for a long, challenging hike for you and your pup!
Huge, nice, lots of areas to play.
I love this park. There is a side for dogs off leash, and another side to walk the Ice age trail. There are so many volunteers that work year round to restore it.
Large places with plenty of trails and dogs. Be a bit careful with dogs that run far away since the place is huge and it can be hard to keep track of your dog if he/she runs too far away.
Large fenced dog park with multiple trails through woods and prairie so you can hike with your dog. Would be most enjoyable if your dog is good at recall.
Besides the smell of dog poo, its a very big park. Has lots of trails for you and your dog ro wander down, with no worry of them going in too deep (the bushes along the trails are fenced off). You can have them off leash (if your dog is well trained) or on a leash safely
Huge place pretty walk with your dog & mostly friendly people
Very large dog park with great views of the start of the Wisconsin driftless area. Many paths and trails for dogs and humans to explore. Has wide open grassy area near the middle for fetching activities. Would not recommend for inexperienced off leash dogs as this place is huge and I have seen people loose their dogs (temporarily) Gravel, wood chip, and grass paths on miles of hilly terrain. Great for exercise. Best dog park in Dane county
A great place for a walk with your dog. Its about two miles around the park. There are plenty of trees and open areas to make it interesting. The park is on a terminal glacial moraine so the geology is very interesting.
Lots of nice hiking trails, great big open space. You will need to bring your own water however. I was caught off guard by that on my first visit.
Huge park, very well kept.
Best dog park around. Love that there are actual trails. Really great to help train your dog to be good at off leash hiking.
A very big and green area, where dog and owner could walk together without worries!!!
Large well maintained park
My dog loves coming to this park. The trails are fun to walk and he gets to be off leash to burn some energy.
Love this place and my dog loves it more
My dog loved his Trip and long walk.
Amazing area, you can walk for hours in this lightly wooded/prarie area. The wooded hills provide great views as well.
Awesome dog park! Its so big!
Cool spot. Great trails for the doggos.
We love this Dog Park!! My 3 dogs and my family love Dane County Dog Parks, but especially the Verona ones! We all enjoy the great walks we take at this park and the interesting people and dogs we meet here. Our dogs do lots of hunting, running in the low brush/woods and greeting of people & dogs thrown in there! They enjoy playing with other dogs here, however we usually go to Badger Prairie for playtimes and here for nice, long, scenic walks/runs for the dogs. Dogs do play here, they just generally have running on their minds more. This is our favorite place to walk with our dogs and is a park we even like bringing guests for a beautiful walk with or without a dog (always with for us, but you wouldnt need to have a dog to walk here).Through the many years we have gone to this park, we have had the great pleasure of meeting wonderful, kind and friendly people and canines at this park. We encourage others to go check it out! Just wear your walking or hiking shoes & be prepared to enjoy a nice walk and return home tired, with (a) tired dog(s).
This park is absolutely massive. 160 acres of fenced-in goodness. Our dog had an incredible time roaming around! Could use more trash cans for pet waste, but I did appreciate that they had many different stations supplied with poop-bags.
