Visited this past winter, and was thoroughly impressed! Lovely collection, and some of the most informative little placards Ive seen in any museum. Excellent mix of more traditional, local art (e.g. Hudson River school), and modern works as well. Cant recommend enough!

I really enjoyed the building space. The ceiling brings in natural light. They have a connected building that has a bakery. There is parking in the rear and on the street. We went to go check out the Tiffany exhibit. It was really cool.

Todays adventure at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute was in conjunction with Corning Glass. The folks from Corning Glass did a stellar job capturing your attention from beginning to end with their demonstrations. It was narrated by one of the folks from Corning with history and interesting facts,at the end of the demonstration you were able to buy some of the glass pieces. The amount paid went to help support Munson-Williams-Proctor. Well worth the time to go and experience first hand.

This remains one if my favorite art museums. I have been to many art museums, but this museum never fails to impress. The museum had a special kimono exhibit. The exhibit was so impressive and once in a lifetime! The collection comprised over fourty hand painted and hand dyed kimonos. Be sure to download the app tour (or view the tour on the website listed on the sign in the exhibit) of the exhibit. The video on the gentleman that created the kimonos is a must see! There are only six sets of headphones and four chairs. You might have to wait some time for the headphones and chairs to be free. We wish captions on the video had been available so that others could enjoy the information on the video without having to wait for headphones. There was a table with origami to try. There were also stations to try copying Japanese art on neat water tablets (super cool)! We were very impressed with the exhibit! We also enjoyed the main art collection on the second floor. We greatly enjoyed the Thomas Cole paintings as well. The staff was super friendly! The lady at the front desk was super nice and kind! The security staff lady was so nice and informative! We really appreciated her going out of her way to tell us to be sure to check out the Victorian house. She was super pleasant and super nice! The gift shop is tastefully done. There are many interesting books and lots of beautiful jewelry. We were disappointed that the cafe is closed on Sundays. Restrooms are easy to find. Parking is free and very convenient! Elevators are available.Overall, a wonderful experience! Highly recommended!

Wonderful place to visit, a little bit strange in layout. I had to inquire at the desk for a coat stand and everybody seemed to be taken back, it is winter time in New York. I stopped by on a weekday and found myself alone having the institution entirely to myself. It was a wonderful experience and a fantastic building I recommend it to anyone visiting Utica.

This Art Museum had more than I thought. Not only was it a museum it was a famous historic house as well where we got to see all of the rooms. I spent much more time there than I thought I would and Im glad I did because I got to see everything the museum and the house have to offer. It just goes to show you that there are many things you can do out there at no cost or for donation if you choose.

My mother was born and raised in Utica, so naturally I spent quite a bit of time there. I had never been to this museum before, and while it is a bit lacking compared to more metropolitan ones, it is a bit of a hidden gem in the area. Im also happy to see everything theyre doing to encourage a healthy art scene for students and patrons alike.

Very busy lunch on the terrace, but the service was awesome, despite the lengthy wait for our sandwiches. Turkey sandwich was too thick to eat gracefully but was super tasty! Steak was awesome! A great way to spend a few hours & enjoy the beauty of MWPI!

Loved the kimono display they have up til sept but they charge to see it. Its a museum, you shouldnt be charging for it. Regardless of the price, I still enjoyed it. Including the table they had for the origami and sum-e ink. Def wont pay to see it again though.

For the tenth most populous town in New York State, this museum stands equally with MOMA or the DIA or even ARTIC. I love how it rambles between the Johnson designed main galleries and the mansion called Fountain Elms. Maybe Fountain Elms has gone too far too protect its collection of furnishings, carpets and bedsteads and divans? I felt a little the intruder peering about rooms where I should enter just three feat. This was a place of refugee and relaxation for the family and wouldnt it be nice if visitors could tune in by relaxing also? Maybe some relaxing, attractive yet fungible sofas in the halls? Seriously, I felt as if I were carrying microbes that would cause the furnishings to collapse into dust.
