The views are gorgeous. However, I havent seen any trails whatsoever. All you can do is park your vehicle in a small parking lot and approach the edge of the cliff which is overseeing Lake Michigan. There is also tall uncut grass everywhere around. It is not a real state forest, but merely a scenic overview spot over the lake.
A small parking lot just south of Gibbs on the Lake. About 25 acres of old field. Along the east side is a cliff due to high water erosion. Still a bit of beach, but a glueling climb down.
Be careful here, lots of erosion at the lake shore. Some of the trails along the cliffs are sketchy because of how close they are to recent landslides. I was about to get down to the lake at one spot, but the lake level is very high so that there wasnt much shore left to walk on unless you dont mind getting ur feet wet.
The only difficulty was no staff on duty at entrance. People trying to access park were confused on what to do for entry. Cars were backed up.
Cool. Very eroded. Lots of fallen timber from the bluff eroding. What was there and is original buried forrest must be gone and re buried? Maintenance needs to be done to make for easier access.
This place was a hidden gem. We were looking for a different park and came across this instead. Beautiful views. Absolutely breathtaking once we got down by the water it was amazing. So low traffic it was nice to. Just get away and enjoy the area. They do allow leashed pets and its a great place to stretch your legs and look at local flora.
Just a awesome place very beautiful place back to nature I wish I could live near there so I can visit everyday
Wheres the buried forest? All I can see is a Sandy lot at the Lakeshore.
Easy parking.Great place to walk your dog.Steep descent to lake but worth it if you are able. Not much beach to walk on depending upon water levels.Depending when you are there you can walk to Gibbs for a drink or meal.
Another great place.
The science and history of this place is amazing. I stopped today and walked around. All I could do though was look over the edge. The paths down look very dangerous. There appeared to be a rope but Im not into going straight down! Nonetheless it was a pretty fall day.
Fun place
