The Gilcrease has a jewel of a collection I try to bring to the attention of non-Oklahomans. The Remington and Russell sculptures are a great set. Theres a lot more range to the art, as a whole, than one expects. Many of the American West paintings are great postcards of the period, forerunners of the action art/illustration of modern times.Visit the awesome landscapes. Stand in front of Morans massive Shoshone Falls, just close enough for it to fill your sight, and feel the vertigo and splendour.Theres a good interactive exhibit downstairs, a great glass-walled hall, and lots of things going on.

It’s a great place only concern is the fact half the place is closed down and still full admission being charged and also no mention of the senior discount to what was very clearly a senior but other than that will come back when the whole place the most important place of the museum can be toured

Very nice museum and worth a visit. Artifact room on lower level has more artifacts than you could look at in a day with a wonderful interactive e-guided tour via a tablet you can carry with you as you go through this section. Upstairs has visiting exhibits and some wonderful bronze work by artists such as Remington. There are wonderful paintings and the gardens are beautiful and peaceful. Great place to spend a morning or afternoon. The current Pulitzer prize exihbit is very intense, you might not want to take small children through it. But do see it. It will move you.

Every third Sunday is a free Funday!  Usually these are geared towards families with children.  They have plenty of fun age appropriate activities to go along with the exhibits.  There is a large area downstairs where you use hand held devices to look up information on an item displayed.  I like to visit every month or so to see some of the traveling exhibitions.  This was one of those visits.  The museum is clean with plenty of restrooms.  If you are a nature lover, they have a great walking path around a small pond with a gazebo outback.  In front they have a small hedge maze and some other trails leading to beautiful garden thats sometimes used for weddings.  During the warmer months they have outdoor events in this area.  These are mostly geared towards adults.  This is a smaller museum that really has a little bit of everything.  It is very enjoyable!

Definitely worth a visit at least once. The museum is great, but the gardens and park dont get their due. A must see, the pictures do them no justice. The only disappointment in the gardens are the pre-columbian and Pioneer gardens, they need some attention. As for the museum, theyve got several play corners for kids and an entire kid-focused exhibit down stairs. The masterwork and permanent collection of western and Native American art was stunning and interesting. It was great to see the bronze sculptures and the gigantic paintings. Recommended.

An exquisite collection of masterpieces that depict America in a way Ive never seen before. It is an essential experience for anyone coming to Oklahoma. The Gilcrease Museum is my favorite museum in Tulsa! It’s in a beautiful building with gardens, a pond and views of Tulsa in the distance. The museum is really well laid out and there are always new temporary exhibits to explore. The temporary exhibits tend to focus on western and indigenous culture and they’re always really interesting and informative. There’s also a restaurant with beautiful views and a Sunday buffet brunch. The museum is also sometimes free on Sunday!

Beautiful art, beautiful grounds, always a nice day...I have been to Gilcrease Museum many times over the past several years and each visit was nice. When a grandchild reaches the age where I believe they will enjoy the museum I plan a day trip that includes Gilcrease. A good age is very child dependent and Ive taken 8 year olds that did quite well and enjoyed the Museum and some Ive waited until they were 11-12. I always enjoy the western art and Gilcrease has an excellent collection. Some of their Russells are spectacular. Actually I think all Russells are spectacular but Gilcrease has some of the most spectacular. Gilcrease seems to always have a very interesting special exhibit of some type that is only there for a limited time so be sure and check their web site to see what is current. The people are always friendly and helpful and I have always enjoyed walking the grounds. The view of downtown Tulsa is wonderful. As I recall the last time I had children with me there were a few hands on activities but it is mostly a place to look. I typically dont take the grandchildren to the museum restaurant but have had very nice meals there with adults in the past. Gilcrease is certainly a Tulsa highlight.

Aside from the Philbrook, the Gilcrease Museum is another epochal location in Tulsa that must be visited by art-lovers. It may not be as resplendent as the Villa Philbrook - like the cover of a book - its whats on the inside that counts. My family and I began at the Gilcrease restaurant. It wasnt busy at all, which was fortunate. I ordered the chicken tenders, grilled vegetables, and mashed potatoes and gravy. It had a fancier name and description. The lunch was good, however the breading coating the chicken was excessively thick and crunchy. The real star of the restaurant was the triple chocolate torte. Fantastic!Afterward we finally trekked through the museum; taking in the paintings, sculptures, and other various artifacts. My favorite collection was the mask and hand molds created of Abraham Lincoln. The bronze sculptures were also fascinating.

Gorgeous set up, clean, full of information & learning tools. It held a diverse arsenal of art, & lots of things for children to see & do. I loved that part because it allowed the children to experience Art & history. There wasnt an African American(AA) presence at all. Just an exhibit to an AA comic book character but 99% of the characters in the comic were not. As an AA woman & mother knowing the rich & also tragic history of AA in Tulsa, when I took my children there I expected to see & be able to show them something regarding people who look like us. Thats the only thing lacking in this museum. Which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5.

The curator of Gilcrease is a genius. Currently (Jan. 2019) Gilcrease has an exhibit for Albert Beirstadt. Albert was a revolutionary painter who was at the top of his class in technical skill and changed the way people viewed the western expansion. His art is also a great inspiration for the new Rockstar release Red Dead Redemption II. It was super cool that the exhibit just happened to be here in Tulsa, Ok. His immersive art will draw you in, you get close and see just tons of color and brush strokes, and when you step back you just have to take it all in. His art work in mind blowing. We love this museum and its diverse exhibits.

This isnt the largest, most beautiful or most impressive museum Ive ever been to by any means BUT the collection of Native American artifacts was world-class. When I visited on 7/21/18, there were two temporary exhibits: one by Native American artist T.C. Cannon, and the other was a photography exhibit of the gay rodeo circuit in the early 90s by Blake Little. The Cannon display was far more interesting and thought provoking than I anticipated (such a prodigious artist, especially considering his untimely death at age 32), and the rodeo pics were a little underwhelming. The permanent collection is neither fabulous nor horrible; the highlight for me was a Diego Rivera painting (AKA Mr. Frida Kahlo). This is a worthwhile stop if youre an art lover, or have a strong fondness or appreciation for Native American relics. Admission price is reasonable, and everyone was very friendly and helpful (particularly the very nice woman working the Native American artifact desk in the basement - she was awesome).
