Really pretty place for nature. Bring bug spray. Cool area for air boating and seeing some huge gators.

Excellent location to completely immerse yourself into the beautiful Florida outdoors. The waters from the swollen St Johns River has finally subsided and the cattle have moved down to the river again. This makes wildlife spotting much easier, since the cows arent moseying around mooing and making noise. Birds, insects, small game, deer, gators, you name it, its here! Take just a few minutes while you are wandering about and just listed. Stand still, look out at the scenery in front of you and just take it in. Silence is golden, my friends, and the only noise youll hear is the air-boats here and there off in the distance. There are vehicle trails as well as countless footpaths to keep your feet moving. If youre looking for a good hike on some solid ground, this is your place. Dip off the beaten path into one of the many off shoot game trails, and chances are youll find some beautiful natural surroundings. Definitely a great hike and an excellent location to dive into the Florida outdoors and find your peace and quiet.

My wife and I spent several hours bike riding and geocaching along the trails. This was in February. I imagine it could be pretty miserable in July/August.

Canaveral Marshes Conservation Area is an excellent location for birding. On yesterdays hike, I saw a Bald eagle, a red shouldered hawk, several species of wading birds, and flocks of White pelicans. Be aware that once inside the gate, you may see cattle grazing as this is all pasture land. Mind your step because there are a lot of cow patties to potentially step in. If you walk all the way to the St Johns river, a distance of about 2 miles from the trail head, you will probably see alligators. They are very common here up to 12 feet in length. I brought my fly rod with me and fished the river down by the 7 Palms shelter and caught American Shad, Blueback herring, Redbreast sunfish, Bluegill, Channel catfish and Black crappie. The fishing is usually excellent this time of year. For the best fishing from the banks, check the river stage levels on the St Johns River near Christmas Florida web site. It should be below five feet, preferably lower. If it is higher than 5 feet, you will have to wade past knee deep to the best fishing areas and that is something you probably dont want to do with the numerous alligators present. Also, make sure to bring plenty of water as there is very little shad once you get near the river. Wear sunscreen and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Air boats are popular on the river section here and several tour operators launch from the SR 50 boat ramp approximately 6 river miles to the north. You will probably also see helicopter training in the area so dont be alarmed you see one doing maneuvers and practicing skills. If you come prepared, you will have a great day!

This is a long hot hike so i suggest a winter trip. the walk affords wide expansive views of the marsh. this is active cattle land so there was a huge amount of droppings. I mean like a crazy amount and not just from cattle but raccoon and hog also. overall i would give this hike a 4/10 im glad i did it but i doubt i will be back.

Fun little hike with the kids, they had fun looking for the little lizards. The staff were very helpful and chatted with the kids about different things they saw and might see.

We went on an airboat ride and our ride was just beautiful. Animals and livestock everywhere. Only problem though is that you can smell a lot of animal poo. But if you want a good ride you have to go to Rays Airboat Tours. He knows so much about everything in there. Also he is very kind.
