KAOW is a fun camp and if you go you won’t regret it. There are games, friends, and the counselors teach us well. Four weeks. Swimming every Friday (optional) and cast party at the end. We do a new musical every year. Alina is a very good teacher.
Thankfully, the kids make it all worth it! They are so fun to watch and really seem to imbibe the whole experience. They light up the stage in every way, which is good considering the that in itself is the best reason to have your child participate. With that said, here are some things you that they dont tell you ahead of time that you really should know:1. The audition doesnt count for much, since they do not care how good your kids is. Instead, it would seem that they choose based on how many times prior your kid has performed with their group and possibly there may be other reasons as well that are not disclosed. So, if your kid will be graduating and it is the first time performing with the group, dont have them get too excited and work hard to get the role, since it wont be forth coming and that can just lead to unfair disappointment and that will be their only shot at it.2. Dont expect an organized event. They are quite flustered much of the time and look on the tense side.3. Expect to pay for a lot of extras. They dont include much of the costumes and instead rely on parents making a purchase for each new performance.4. They are not always very nice to the kids. Some things were said that surprised me, but rather than take hear say, lets just go with the point that there were kids that had a general feeling of being talked down to at times.5. Mediocre at best when it comes to the actual stage directing and choreography. You might not care since your kids are young, but it is amazing how nice it is to see a performance done right and if you were to compare to other performance groups, I think you would be at least a little disappointed.
