I visited Cracker Country as a child on a field trip, maybe around 2008. I have never been happier than I was that day. They showed us how to churn our own butter, and I have not gone a day since then without thinking about the butter I consumed on that field trip. It was the most magnificent, godly experience I have ever had. I am begging you, please continue to churn butter for the school children who visit you. Bless them with the same beautiful butter that I devoured and have never stopped thinking about. I hope you still make fresh butter so that I can one day return and relive the feeling of absolute bliss I experienced that day. I am forever grateful, Cracker Country. 5 starts.

Super great place for a field trip. I went to a similar place as a child at Stone Mountain, in Georgia. It definitely brought back memories. The staff were all funny and super friendly. The kiddos had a fabulous time. The kids were able to make a candle for themselves and a rope for the class. It was great for the kiddos to see how things were done a long time ago.

I volunteered here for two years during the statefair and Chrismas time. I really enjoyed speaking with guests about the one room school house since my grandmother used to work as a teacher in a one room school house up north. Im also a teacher so its very intriguing to discuss the differences and similarities in schools then vs now. Im moving out of state and Im really going to miss Jennifer (head of the volunteer program) and the rest of the staff and other volunteers. I also loved the garden, it was so well kept and beautiful! It was a great experience.

I read the book A Land Remembered and was told to come visit Cracker Country at the Florida State Fair. It was a great glimpse into the paste for the state of Florida. The people were all dressed in 1800s attire and were busy doing things from that time period. A good time.

Went on a field trip with one of my daughters classes, its kind of a local elementary school right of passage to go to Cracker Country. Its very nice, well shaded, actors dressed to period explaining the way of life back then. You can help make rope, churn butter, and make candles. They have a small general store. I really enjoyed myself and cant wait for my next kids field trip.

Fun little mock village where kids can see how things used to be in the old days. Our guide was so great- I wish I remembered his name- but he was very patient with the kids in our field trip group. I really took note of his patience and the way he spoke to the kids in such a respectful way.The kids got to churn butter and make candlesticks! Each class got a newly spun rope to take home. They have a pretty amazing miniature train set up. Its a really cool field trip experience. I like it during the state fair, too, because they have kettle corn and sugar cane for sale. The indoor buildings are really hot and theres no air conditioning anywhere, so be prepared if youre coming here for a field trip.

Great place to actually see old Florida history in person. I could spend an extra couple of hours with a more detailed tour. I would love to hear or read more about the history of the buildings and just learn about the history of this city and state. The food or snacks were delicious - yes even with the State Fair up and running. Best beef jerky by far was in Cracker Country. Animals would be an interesting addition to have there like a cow or pig...?

We stumbled across this attraction when we visited the fairgrounds aiming to see a poultry show. This was a great surprise which was cast in a very nostalgic historical setting. We learned history from the various cast of characters who were actually living in the life style reminiscent of old Florida history books. The people were extremely nice, talented at various crafts, generous with their time, and willing to field any questions. The area was very clean, peaceful, and is one of the most relished memory of our trip.

My daughter came here on a field trip in which I was chaperoning. I love that the children get to learn history and see it and relive it. I would say the experience was alright. I didn’t like how some of the people there treated the children. Some of the children got screamed at and I don’t think its fair to treat other peoples children that way. Also everything seemed rushed some kids couldn’t properly finish some stations due to moving to the next station. Why pay for something they rush you through it then some kids might not get an opportunity to get a turn.

This is a great place to learn what life was like just a hundred years ago. You step back in time and learn about the hardships and yet symplicity of life. A time before electricity, chain grocery stores, technologically-advanced schools, and suburban sprawl. A time when homes had their own gardens and crops, your closest neighbor was a couple miles away, and you bartered with neighbors for the things that you needed. This mock town is comprised of actual buildings built 100 years ago and now relocated from various parts of the state to this one town to share what life used to be like. The grounds are immaculate and all the buildings have been very well-preserved. Visitors are taken into the town in groups and led by a tour guide. My group had the distinct pleasure of being led by Ms. Clara. Ms. Clara will tell you that she is 85 years young, and she actually grew up during this time in history, so she gave us a first-hand view about life back then. She was a delightful tour guide and it was so interesting to hear her personal accounts. If you visit cracker country, I definitely recommend asking to be in Miss Claras group.

Cracker country is a living history museum. It has original buildings dating from 1870-1912 that were relocated from around the state of Florida. Costumed interpreters portray daily living as Florida pioneers. Florida crackers were people who migrated from the North and settled in the harsh Florida wilderness. The cracker cowboys herded cattle with the crack of their whips. They did not actually hit the cattle, rather made a loud pop with their whips that could be heard across long distances; and that is where the term Florida cracker comes from. Among some Floridians, the term is used as a proud or jocular self-description. Since the huge influx of new residents into Florida in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the term Florida Cracker is used informally by some Floridians to indicate that their families have lived in the state for many generations. It is considered a source of pride to be descended from frontier people who did not just live but flourished in a time before air conditioning, mosquito repellent, and screens.

Cracker Country is located on the Florida State Fair Grounds. Thats when most people visit it. School children visit it through out the school year on field trips. It has relocated old Florida buildings such as a one room school house, a church (including graveyard with headstones from the 1800s), a model train museum, a general store (that sells actual goods) and similar. They also have the opportunity to make a candle or make a rope. You can see how sugar cane is turned into a syrup using mules and a mill. There are vendors that fit the theme, i.e., soap, beeswax candles, shaving soap and brushes, pine straw and palm woven into baskets, an iron worker, along with food items such as pork rinds, kettle corn, hand squeezed lemonade. Its a relaxing break under the giant oak trees from the balance of the State Fair and the junk food extravaganza (deep fried stick of butter anyone?) and carnies screaming at you to part with your money.
