Would not visit again. The building is huge. The exhibits, which I would consider OK, was tiny. So disappointing.
This was a disappointment. The Bruce Davidson exhibit was provoking and satisfying, HOWEVER, when we arrived, we were informed that the 3rd floor of the museum was closed. We should have been told of this on the website when buying tickets. In and out in about 15 minutes.
This museum has a great things inside. I really impressed those wonderful paintings.
The Florida Museum of Photographic arts is a experience youre going to enjoy if you ever decide to visit. I had the pleasure to visit this museum along with others on national museum day! Ive got to say this exhibit delivers a great experience. The photography you will see, will be some of the best quality and inspiring photos. The staff is friendly and the architecture surrounding the exhibit is a experience within itself. As a real estate professional I try my best to keep up to date with all of the best spots to recommend to those new to the city. Make sure you go and bring the family, They will surely be happy you did
Pleasant artsy metropolitan ambience, but the collection is small. If you dont have much time, but want an hour of something people call art these days in your life, definitely go.
It’s in a cool building and the desk staff was very nice, but this was a total disappointment. There was almost no art on display, and what was on display was largely, well, bad art. Don’t go here.
I submitted for the 10th Annual Competition and didnt even receive a rejection email. I cant argue with the quality of winners shown on the website, but would like to see the whole body of works selected and know how the show was juried. I can find no way on the website to communicate directly to the Museum.
Amazing exhibitions, every show was stellar, small so its not a all day museum, it gets straight to the point, staff was very friendly
I love this museum. I wish there were more to offer... When you walk in- I expected to see walls of art lined up. But instead, you know a fact sitting area, with a coffee place and elevators. Then you go to the second floor and boom; there are a desk and a small office. The exhibitions are beautiful and it laid out nicely. Just, I wish there was more.
Visiting from St.Louis, I had a wonderful experience, please continue the superior work!
If you love photography hey, history, beautiful works of art. This is the place for you. The building has sweepingly beautiful spaces coupled with awesome intimate spaces that are well-lit and positioned for viewing the artwork. I highly recommend checking out this museum.
The items inside is fantastic but its a bit small and cost me much
WOW! This museum was beautiful, the service was fantastic, and the architecture is so modern! If you are visiting Tampa I highly reccomend coming here. Its small but you can easily spend 1-2 hours
I was so excited to visit the so called Museum of Photographic Arts because I was hoping to see and learn a little bit more about Photographic Arts! As a lover of photography I was very disappointed with my visit. The poor selection and display of the images was rather sad. The Photographs were basically hung in three short hallways which they had a nerve to call a Museum of Photographic Arts and charge an entry fee! Save yourselves time and money and take your family to a real museum! As for photographs, you can see better photos on Flickr.
Enjoyed this Museum very much not only the photography but also the design of the building inside and out.
I love coming for the classes and informative panels. I just recently completed the portfolio review with David, Pierre, and Brian who guided me through conceptualizing my work and my artist statement as well as formatting my photo pieces into a cohesive structure. Thank you! Glad to be a student member to FMOPA, I live in Spring Hill, FL and love that there is a community in Tampa I can work with.
Loved the Griff exhibition. Would like to have a print of the auspicious photos of Langston Hughes and especially the photo of Mr and Mrs Martin Luther King in Ghana, 1957.
Make sure you know what exhibits are on before you go. We did not enjoy it because one exhibit was super weird and beyond not what I expected. The other one was about a Civil Rights guy and although I didnt find the photographs to be anything special, it was at least relevant and interesting. I thought these would be Florida photographers and their works, I was wrong. It has a great location and the building is kinda cool. Get a groupon!
Had such a great time, the is staff amazing . Architecture of this building is a sight to see
Loved loved loved! Will be back to enjoy more provoking pieces in a luxurious place.
The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is a hidden jewel in the Tampa, Fl. scene. It is a must see. The staff is warm, welcoming and extremely accommodating. They are also very knowledgable about the museum as well as the surrounding areas. It is worth the visit for their warm welcome. The museum itself is intimate, beautifully situated and honors the photographers it highlights. It was a joy to wander through the galleries. I will return again and again to experience the ever changing exhibits.
This is a beautiful place for a photography museum, and I enjoyed the three exhibitions. One exhibit of local artists was surprisingly good. The two curated exhibits were both thoughtful and well displayed. The photographs were modern and stimulating. I would recommend to anyone interested in current photography.
Awesome museum... Great exhibits from the 1960s and 1970s... Very helpful and friendly staff... Facilities were clean and well organized... Nice place to spend an hour or so with the family...
Really neat place to visit. If you are of the age where you rode these antiques it brings back fond memories. If you are young it is fun to ride back in history. Great for kids.
The girl working the front desk was exceptionally adorable
This museum is really small, but the small number of photos have strong messages. I suggest you read about every artist by borrowing the laminated pamphlet from front desk because theres more information on the photographers skills. My favourite was a temporary exhibit one floor up, the photos werent even photoshopped as the description said. The vase with flower! Worth the $10 entrance fee.
One floor museum, Two exhibits, and a hallway with local and imported artists. Took us about an hour to walk around and look at each piece. Cost was $10 per person which is reasonable, not including parking at a local parking garage. Good way to spend some time in downtown Tampa if you enjoy art and photography on a budget.
Great place. Went to an event there that was Amazing.
Different than what I expected, but good. I would recommend.
Not really a museum. More a small gallery. Nice photography work but not worth the $10 admission.
Friendly staff. Small modern exhibit. The Stephen Wilkes exhibit is worth it.Get a groupon.
Lovely, compact, thought-provoking. Friendly and helpful staff.
It was 8 dollars I think (military and student discount) otherwise its 12 (?)Two storeys of photography. Some are very good...others are very interesting.(Eye of the beholder).
The building looks modern and clean but once inside you quickly realize its a facade. The lobby area of the museum was kinda dirty. The galleries were small, cramped, warm. The quality of the photography and quality of prints and hangings sub-par. Even the signs for the photography were poorly cut, incomplete, and lacking vital information. The highlight of this museum was the Bruce Dale exhibit. His photos were impressive. Everything else was not. There are more impressive and better displayed stock photos at doctors offices. The museum needs more attention to detail and someone in charge that cares about quality and museum experiences as much as they think they do about photography.
Such a neat place. The showcases are incredible. Became a member
There are no signs or addresses listed, so if you are wishing to be a patron, but are from out of the area, these people are not interested in you visiting, nor do they operate any kind of information interface, audible or signed. Its a special kind of inane Ive never seen before at a reputable museum.
My wife and I enjoyed our time here. Very relaxing and serene which is exactly what I wanted. It took us about 90 minutes to complete our tour.
A true hidden gem to hold an event! Not only is it a cool place to visit and learn history and see some awesome artwork, so much unique space to host an event. The event space is great for an open air concept and the staff is super! Great location!
This museum is wonderful! While it is a little tricky trying to figure out how to go to it just go up the escalator and elevators and someone will help you. The staff is absolutely amazing and they have wonderful programs and the artist come and talk about their work. There were some amazing pieces I saw and they always have returning exhibits and different exhibits every time so I will be back!
An incredibly intimate museum with a lovely staff, and revolving exhibits that cater to many tastes!
I actually had gone to an African Pop Up [Besida] here and it was very nice. The venue is in view of downtown and the water. The inside is very nice and myself and other women were able to view and purchase beautiful, handmade garments from Nigeria. I am looking forward to returning in September for more of Besida African garments. They are made of high-quality, breathable fabric, fit for everyday and special wear.
Gorgeous building! Great little space with beautiful art. Great staff.
Enjoyed the art work. The photographs were professional and awe that inspiring .
Decent exhibit, some of the art didnt seem like it was photography related and I wish it had more to see. But a $10 cover isnt bad for what they offer
Hard to find gallery, tucked away on the second floor of an office building. Run by a not-for-profit organization and Im sure they have to do they have to do. They were showcasing a few different photographers was worth the 10 bucks to get in.
I go to this museum everytime there is a new exhibit, so far I had never been disappointed, all of them had been beautiful. Highly recommended.
A bit smaller than youd expect, but will definitely give you feelings.
Great little spot to see amazing photography. The main issue is the size, as others have stated. Just be prepared that it is tiny!
We rented this venue for a graduation party. I recommend FMoPA for a rental facility anytime. Beautiful location.
Interesting venue with well-curated exhibitions. Gallery is on 2 floors which makes it a bit choppy, as opposed to being on one floor, but it works, in some ways because of the beautiful building and breathtaking lobby it is located in.
Nice but very Basic and not much Artwork.
This was a cute date idea. But it wasn’t to impresses with layout.
Amazing place and works of local art for such a low price
Beautiful museum. Great place to hold functions and events.
Had a great time during an hour-long visit with my girlfriend. I wouldnt say that I know too much about photography, but I could definitely appreciate the small group of galleries that they have. Its a fairly small place with basic gallery rooms, but its great for the amateur enthusiast.
Im a regular at this great museum!
I wonder what the 3, 4 and 5 star reviews have seen what I have missed? Really, a museum and this entrance price? A complete Joke!
Great time. Very interesting art work
Amazing space with great pieces of art.
Great experience, I went to a 70s fundraiser party there for The Tampa Bay Theatre Festival held by Rory & Kahlila Lawrence. Great food & music. Loved the museum
As a visitor to Tampa it makes you want to become a resident of Tampa
A very nice place to spend some time and look at Quality Art.
Small museum in an interesting building. Current exhibit 3/19 Lost in America
Very interesting look into Tampa and the art of photography
Small, but the exhibits were excellent!
A lot smaller than the building suggests. There were three collections when I went. The content was good, but we were done in well under an hour.
Eh. That about sums it up. Not really our style. Very small for the price and most of the works looked more like photo-chopped paintings than actual photographs. If you enjoyed the Dali museum, youd enjoy this, because theyre along the same style.
I loved the old photos of Tampa, cool stop on the way to the park.
Great collections. Really enjoy it.
Being here was Amazing! I went to see the pictures and they were so cool! I also went to the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, And it was fun! 10/10 would go again
Very cool exhibits, it’s a bit small but worth the price of admission.
Beautiful museum, quiet gallery, Ill definitely be back.
A nice museum with interesting exhibits. Worth it if you have an interest in photography
Very interesting. I was expecting more.
This museum is very nice and intimate. The people at the front desk are very friendly and welcoming. The galleries are interesting in design and the work that they show is also interesting. Im not extremely knowledgeable about photography or photographers, so I like that they show artists with which Im not familiar. They open a door for me to want to explore and find out more about the artists and other artists like them.
Very small. Some really cool pics and some very lame ones. Overpriced. We took our time to see everything and it took 30-40 min
Very elegant setup. Beautiful lobby. Art work jumping out at you. It was a sight to behold.
Love this museum
Very interesting exhibits.
What a lovely museum, very aesthetic and peaceful. Well put together shows. Definitely a place to see!
Beautiful setting for photographic exhibits
A hidden gem ... Good diverse programs and great rotation of exhibitions
Located in the cube adjacent to Rivergate Towers (the round building) is the location site. Its worth the stop, if you might be facing some inclement weather and want to occupy some spare time. I would categorize this museum as filler time, in other words, it would not be what draws me to area but would supplement my experience. If you are looking for a large collection of photographs with plenty of variety, this is NOT the place. Entry fee is average to high. The interior floor space is well designed with plenty of natural light entering the structure. They have a permanent exhibit and also periodic rotating exhibits so definitely check their website to see if the current featured exhibit is something intriguing.
Very beautiful and clean inside, a friend of mine rented a floor and it was spacy with a dance floor. They have both valet and regular parking in the back.
Amazing historic collection of the daily photos of 1968 and the building itself is impressive!
This museum is an absolute joke, and Im not laughing. There were cubicles right in the center of the exhibit, a very small amount of photographs to be accounted for, and absolutely no theme at all. I learned nothing about the history of photography, and I can see now why they ask for a donation, rather than a set admission. To be completely honest, if they had asked for the donation at the end rather than the beginning, I wouldnt have given them a cent. Such an odd place.
Interesting galleries, but overall not very much to see. Flew through it in about 2 hours. $8 for stidents and $10 for adults.
I love this Museum. Excellent curators, perfect size for a drop-in experience. So happy to have a museum dedicated to photographic arts.
Small but good.
The museum is a small but terrific venue for displaying photography as art. It apparently did not satisfy others but I would defy them to find ten photographs in an exhibit within 500 miles of Tampa to equal the brilliance of the photos of the great Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti that are currently on exhibit here. Tampa is blessed to have this opportunity. Congratulations on a fantastic exhibit.
I wanted to like it! I appreciate the value our museums bring to the city. This museum is plagued by its extremely small venue and lack of descriptions on pieces and art movements. With less than 2 dozen pieces at any time you arent left with a good impression of an artists or art history and their impact on it. Instead it feels more like seeing blown up National Geographic pictures.I think the passion for art is there, and Tampa has the desire for a photographic art museum. Perhaps in a larger space with emphasis on photographic art history, education, and creativity the museum could really flourish.
Seems like a waste of time. Exhibits are small and there is little information about what you are seeing. It seems more like a small gallery than a museum. $20 for us to get in was steep for what we saw. It is a spectacular building but the facility and staff are significantly lacking. The Tampa Museum of Art right across the park was so much better. Very disappointed. Will not be back.
They had this great exposition about alzheimer, it get to me.
This is hardly a museum of photographic arts, or museum of anything. It is a gallery featuring photos, of historical significance at best but not a museum. The featured exhibit I saw was unimpressive and uninformative. My experience was very disappointing and I do not recommend visiting this facility. I really expected a museum with exhibits which described the history of photography. There is nothing at all like that here.
Cool photography museum. Free on last Friday of every month. Museum is supposed to be free but donations are demanded. Not really worth the $10 donation as it is very short but it is bigger than the Tampa museum of art by Curtis Hixon Park. They filmed the punisher and Edward scissor hands here!
Their permanent selection is small but they have great exhibits that come into town. They also have some great community events for local photographers.
