This is my first time staying at Diamondhead for a float trip with a group of adults and children. The onsite accommodation has bunk beds for the young ones and the space is roomy enough for activities between meals and boardgames. We have also enjoyed the covered back porch during cooler mornings and evenings. The staff handling the floats/kayaks are friendly and since many of us in our group are familiar with the safety rules, we didnt need alot of explanations. I am surprised that the staff did not asked if we have done this before. The 6-mile drop off was a short bus ride from the resort and we took our time floating along the river, making several stops for snacks, swimming, and exploring.Beyond the floating adventures, we played a little frisbee golf on site and explored the river near the resort.
Float Trip with a bunch of friends on a warm Saturday. Crazy busy at the start, with huge groups vying for space waiting for a bus, and large lines inside of people waiting to pay for said float trip. Inside while waiting to pay you have access to convience store style shopping (ice/snacks/beer/etc).That being said, large number of staff members to keep things flowing smoothly. Once youve paid, you get a slip and your group waits for your name to be called before boarding a bus. While you wait you are presented with cages of paddles and life vests. Once on the bus, its a quick ride upriver to where the boats/rafts/kayaks are dropped into the Illinois River. The float itself is quite tranquil and relaxing. The river is slow moving/little to no rapids, and a ton of sand bars to pull over on. Float is unsupported at this point; make sure you have cooler (drinks/food), sunscreen block, provisions, etc. After a couple hours of leisurely floating the campgrounds of Diamondhead show up and you are done!
This was a very nice campsite. However, very expensive! It was $25 to camp then they charged $5 a person for a live band that they said we could hear but, could not hear. So we paid $50 to camp in tent. They even charged for my kids. We thought paying for rafting in advance would be easier but, it wasnt. Better to pay when your ready to raft. This was my 1st time at this resort and 4th of July weekend so it was understandable. Still nicer than the Other Ive camp at. Bathrooms clean, staff was friendly. There was a place to swim in the river near campsite. I would definitely stay here again!
We stayed with Diamondhead Resort this year and the employees were extremely pleasant. They have a good selection of items to take on the river. We only needed rooms to sleep in since were stay gone all day, but they were clean and the ac was ice cold!
Always love coming here! Always have a great time! Place has pretty clean bathroom facilities and the people that work here are always kind and helpful. Diamond Head Resort is super busy so be prepared but aside from that its a great place to camp during the week and float the river.
People working there were awesome, very helpful and its about as clean as any place like that can be. They have multiple busses so there isnt a bad wait in line to go up river. Multiple options for staying over on the campgrounds, sites with electric, without electric, bunk houses, and hotel rooms. Great place over-all, cant wait to go back and do it again !
This place is the quintessential rustic getaway. This our 6th year of a girls weekend float trip. This place is ran like a well oiled machine. Personell are all friendly and helpful. Great little bar, hot grill breakfast, and of course, the beautiful river float trip. If youre expecting the Hampton, forget it. Rooms are clean and inviting with rustic feel. We love it. Let your hair down and just enjoy a lazy weekend here.
The place is very well maintained, the staff are very accommodating and professional while having a great personality. I say this as I witnessed this personally from the women who work I side the store who checks people in to camp, the shuttle drivers taking our group to our float area and picking us up and bringing us back to base, all the way to the security officer at the campsite entrance. From here on out I will definitely return to Diamondhead for a great time!
Had a great time. Get them tickets to the driver asap tho. No complaints.
I went to arrow head before a couple years in a row we loved it. This one is a little further down the river and it was honestly so much better then the other . I would definitely recommend it just because of scenery and less rapid so can actually enjoy it if you are wanting to chill. Very cleand staff and maintenance did a good job keeping everything tidy organized and fun. They are also very reasonable price wise. They will be our next stay when we go to the river .
People are very nice place was clean they even had cold bottles of water they gave me it was very good time
Me an the wife go every year and its always fantastic. But this year jus wasnt the same to many little problems.
Great camping and float resort. The float trip is fun and they often have bands play at their camp grounds. Great place for a family camping trip.
Very very clean, and amazing customer service. I went there with about 30ish people and they were so kind and we had an amazing time
I had a great time floating the river. The rooms are nice, clean and reasonably priced. I will definitely he back.
My family and I have been coming to The River for years now and have stayed at many different resorts. I can, without hesitation, give Diamond Head
The service was terrible due to an older employee named Barbara, times were misunderstood as to when our 45 person group needed to leave. While trying to get this straight, Barbara told us “you’re lucky I don’t shred up your paper now, never come back.” Mind you, parking per vehicle was $65 and floating was $27 a head, times 45 is a major chunk of change. At the end of the float, Barbara sat with 4 other females employees and made fun of our friend who was disabled and attempting to pull a cooler up a gravel hill. We will not be bring our services back to this resort due to her.
Our waitress Maggie was excellent...wings were good & would recommend to everyone to float or just come in for food
We had an excellent time with them. Check in staff was friendly. Delivered us to the public access launch, took the long float, and arrived back/ended at Diamondhead. The raft boys took care of everything and drove us back to our car up top.
I go at least once a year with the family. Never disappoints.
We enjoyed there only problem at landing
This place is fabulous! No lie!! Great staff. Great campground. Great bathrooms. Who is that mediocre band tonight?
Beautiful people. Friendly. Comfortable. Safe!
Floating the river was extremely fun. However, as far as the staff and condition of the resort it wasnt great. Gross restrooms, rude staff.
Had a fantastic time...first time.. had a blast️
If youre not floating 12 miles from Diamondhead youre losin!!!!!!!!! best spot hands down
Good float equipment. Very nice staff.
Clean bathrooms and great staff. We enjoyed floating the river with our son and friends!
This place was very orginized and super friendly
Love this place. Concerts. I prefer to camp out but they do have tent sits, trailer sites, bunkhouses and more. Come float the river then relax at the full service bar and have some great food!
Best camp site on the river.
Clean well kept and the bathrooms were very clean. We had a great time here.
Turned out to be our 2nd choice, War Eagle was full up. Turned out to be cheaper, and they were having bands friday and Saturday. Free entertainment for camping!
This place is So Great!! For a large group or individuals!!It is clean and the owners take Pride in their outfitter!!Made our group of 9 So Very Happy!!Thank you...see you next time!!Loved our Cabin!!
Best place for a float trip!
Great camping area, clean bath house and restrooms. Had an amazing time rafting and seeing the Illinois river! Definitely go again
This was one of the best times ever. This place was awesome. We will be back for sure.
Had time and reasonable rates. Staff was friendly. Nice shop for supplies and full grill and bar available. Can also rent overnight.
I can sum this up in less than 2,000 words. Very nice facilities and a great place to camp. Plus its right by the river with a nice spot to swim.
Always a fun trip. 4th year to visit DHR.
The bathroom when you check in is large and clean. Employees were nice. Bus driver was friendly. And we got to bring our dog for no extra fee.
Greatest place to float and eat afterwards.
One of my favorite places to float out of in Tquah! Weve rented Kayaks and Rafts before. The people are always nice, knowledgeable, and helpful! I really like facility, always clean and well organized! They have outdoor restrooms that are attached to the building and easily accessible. Showers and changing area located in the bathroom. Nice venue for outdoor fun, lots of parking space, and great camping grounds. One of the best out at Illinois River in Tquah and most affordable! Remember, you get what you pay for! Some places might be cheaper BUT their stuff is cheaper, like paddles, rafts and light jackets. Diamondhead will also you help you when banking at the end, they pull your raft up and load it. Other locations make you do that work!
I love coming here for camping and rafting, its amazing. This place is so beautiful!
One of the best floating operations on the Illinois river. Live bands almost every time I visit.
Need more restrooms at the camping area,
Nice people nice rates no hassles
Great time at the Medicine stone festival!!
Clean facilities, friendly & knowledgeable staff, well-maintained property and equipment. THE best place to go to float the river, camp, relax.Be sure to meet Oscar, when youre there!
Staff has always been so friendly. The cabin is really the best quality during your stay with bedding provided. The cleaning lady even asked if wed like towels. I was impressed. Previously, weve only stayed in the bunkhouse. Never been to another spot on the river because Ive always had a great experience!
Always fun to float!
Way too many drunks for my liking. We arrived by 9am to avoid the drinks but no luck. Nice route, good location. I will probably go else where next year.
Its beautiful
Owners are fabulous, employees are the best!!
Great place good people
Great place for the family, I like the fact that the bathrooms have showers. The Resort is always clean. Friendly people always around, Once I did a backflip off the raft and busted my head open. Always people willing to help people. Always check before jumping and diving.
Went there earlier this summer to just camp, made reservation for electric tent site as I have a breathing treatment machine I need daily. Check in and they tell me I need to pay for the float and when I told them we were just camping and didnt want to float the lady informed us you have to pay to float. I explained my medical need and she said it didnt matter you have to float if you rent an electric site. Was told we could camp primitive with no electric if we didnt want to float. We will not be going back.
Wonderful place to get away, fun relaxed kid friendly a perfect place to spend time with your loved ones
Enjoyed our day floating
Whats not to love?? It has a great spot on the river.
I floated down a river! Weeee!
So much fun!
Fun camping neighbors
Floats were great and the rv spots were big, well maintained, and easy hookup. The bathrooms were clean. The disc golf baskets are an added plus. The only downside is they say security patrols but the 2 RVs next to us fought from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and, although security came by, they did not do anything but make them go inside....so as soon as security left, they came back out screaming at each other again.
There is an old lady who works at the front desk who likes to laugh at other peoples misfortunes. We got separated from our group and I just tried to ask if there were any shuttles still running so we could get back to our car and she just laughed at me. So I guess if you get confused about where to go or how it works, be prepared to walk at least four miles on your own.
Get your no frills, unplugged vacation here! I love going to Diamondhead- I love spending summers here. FYI, they are dog friendly!
Just went the 1st of August. Planning another trip for September. Had the best time here. Employees were helpful and very friendly. Highly recommend this place. Tyler was our driver, he was awesome!
It was clean with a friendly staff. The sign at the end of the rafting was kind of confusing and not very big. It was $6 more per person than some of the other places I checked but way nicer so Im not complaining. You get what you pay for.
I have floating Diamond head for many years and they never disappoint. Service spot on. Food and drinks spot on. Great place to party on the river
So much fun. Fast service and clean bathrooms!
Cool spot but too expensive
Awesome customer service and knowledgeable about the business and how to improve the customers experience. Very quick, little wait for float trips.
Had a blast!
Great place, very relaxing
Very beautiful and clean campgrounds! Friendly staff clean restrooms and showers! Would give 7 stars if possible!
They made is super easy to pay for everything split between 14 people and our float was awesome. The campgrounds were clean and easy to navigate. Best float company in Tahlequah!
We camped and had a great float done the river.
One of the best resorts I have used! They were super friendly and helpful when I was booking my float trip on the Illinois River in advance. Word of advice: book a cabin way ahead of time! They get super busy and will fill up. The staff here is amazing and they are willing to go above and beyond to help guests. I will be using them again in the future for float trips.
Stayed in one of the bunkhouses with a group. We did a rafting trip down the river. It was a great experience. Having a full bunkhouse for a group of 50+, we were able to spend a weekend on the river. The bunkhouses were nothing fancy but thats not really the point.
Here Every Year with the family. So much fun camping - spoiled style with electricity of course:)Friendly helpful staffCampground kept clean, bathrooms/showers clean and stocked.Staff patrols grounds making sure everyone behavesGreat place to bring family and friends for a weekend getawy
Always have the best time .... Owners and staff are by far the friendliest people you will meet.... And love Oscar
Always a great time here.
It’s the best resort on the river. I lost my wedding ring and not only did they find it but also kept it safe til I came looking for it Saved my life
This place is beautiful and has great accommodations.
Maybe to spend more time in the future. Today was really a good observation of days to come.
Enjoyed Kayaking
Clean! Great place to camp and float!
Friendly staff and very helpful. Great place to go.
So much fun kayaking their 12 mile. Family fun at affordable rates.
Too busy in my opinion. on the other hand, it was nice to camp right by the water. He bathrooms were fairly clean. Also we didn’t appreciate that they forced the purchase of a wristband for a band that played on sight. We probably won’t camp there again
The best place on the river to stay. Fun and safety at its finest.
We had the best time thanks for the clean bathrooms.awesome staff and good neighbors
Cool campsite. There is a bar and the food is actually really good. I had an egg and cheese biscuit and it was made from scratch!
Weve used this resort for our float trips for three years. Great experience!
I love love LOVE Diamondhead Resort. Our group has stayed here countless times! Our close friends Russ and Mary Lamons introduced us to Diamondhead and we have never had a bad time or stay here. The entire staff is beyond amazing! We love them all!! I always look forward to my next trip.
Great 12 mile float - best deal on the river
Its a nice campground with great access to the river and good facilities. Staff was friendly and helpful. Only down side is lack of grills on each camp site. Id recommend it if you have your own grill or willing to purchase one.
