The museum is fairly small, but has a fair amount of attractions. This museum would be a fun way to spend an hour or so as a regular visit, but not for a lot longer.I was there for a modest sized event, which was very enjoyable. We booked the museum and had a lovely time. They worked with us to provide a certain unique experience for our event. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and provided excellent service.
We had a wonderful experience at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. My favorite exhibits were hands on; such as the Robotic Exhibit. I felt like a child all over again. My husband seem to enjoy the Prehistoric Dinosaurs. We walked, read and enjoyed the fact of learning so much in one day. At the end, we bought souvenirs to remind us of our experience.
Good experience. Museum is well managed and kids enjoy all the tools that explain basics of physics and mechanics. There are many kiosk located which explains chemistry, nuclear energy, solar energy concepts in easy manner. Demonstration on solar energy was great. Different types of rocks and geology of cellphones we use in our day to day life was quite informative.
A nice little museum, but they need to update their website to make it clear which exhibits are closed due to COVID. All of the frogs have been moved to the main museum campus downtown, and that was one of our main reasons to visit. We had a very disappointed 6 year old due to that. All of the mini hands on physics, power, and mechanical experiments were great for 5 years to 13 years though - very well designed and accessible.
This is a very nice science museum located just outside of Houston in Sugar Land, Texas. It is very small compared to the Science Museum near the Medical Center in Houston. I would highly recommend visiting if youre in the area and want to get the kids out of the house for a little while, as this museum is set up for kids to roam around freely. This museum is also set up for birthday parties as it is small enough for kids not to get completely lost, but big enough to keep kids entertained.
My family and I loved it here and we learned so much. Well definitely go back!
My first time visiting was a little disappointing. I felt like there was not enough to see and there was a scarcity of employees to answer questions. The employees that were there were very helpful with the entrance and the exiting and the gentleman manning the special exhibition was very patient and kind with the kids. For the price of admission I would have liked to have had more to see.
Pretty cool place to take the kids on a Saturday morning. Bigger than it looks from the outside and it was only $15 for the 3 of us. (Theyre both under 12). You can easily spend 2 or 3 hours here and the gift shop isnt too over priced.
Was here for a field trip with my sons 3rd grade class. Many cool activities for the kids and a makeshift planetarium which showed a 25 minute film about hurricanes. The kids loved the interactive dinosaur cam!
Helpful personnel, has a good variety of things to look, read, touch and buy.
Half the exhibits are closed or shut off, probably bc of social distancing. Still a fun experience though.
Its much smaller compared to the main museum but theres still so many exhibits to enjoy. Great for the kids!
Very nice! Very small museum, but full of lots to see and fantastic staff.
Visited the natural science museum as we had purchased the city pass. Good place. Can be enjoyed by people of all age groups. The city pass covers most of the exhibits. The 3D movies and the butterfly centre need separate tickets. Each floor has different theme and it was well set up and neatly maintained. There is mcD near the entrance. Good food without much waiting time and not much of a seating space. I found the gems and seashell exhibits very impressive. You can typically expect to spend an entire day here.
Surprisingly very good and informative. Even entering the place, you feel like there is not going to be much. But the information they have on the relatively few items they have is massive. Most impressive were the hands-on experience with looking at various celestial bodies (piques the interest of kids and adults alike in wanting to know more), the all around projection system in which they have various informative movies playing and the displays of the galaxies around us (along with the comparison of the largest stars we know of).
Fun, quick science place. Smallish, but well layed out and covering multiple topics.
I love it here. Knowledgeable and entertaining. The facility is always clean too!
Great place to take kids. A little small though
I went as a guest at a company holiday party. It was fun, the staff (catering and museum) were very nice and efficient, and the facilities were well-kept. The museum exhibits were really cool. Although it was a bit difficult for me to fin at night because the signage was very subtle, I would enjoy visiting the museum during normal business hours to see the exhibits.
The staff were not welcoming but the museum itself was very amazing wherein you can really gain a lot of knowledge about natural science and the like.
Wife called to see which natural history Museum to go to and the one in Houston said the one in Sugarland would be best. Drove an hour there and it was closed. Not a happy camper.
Cute museum. Great staff.
Great place for an easier museum visit. Smaller than the Houston location but still a great price with nice exhibits and attractions. I have a ton of great pictures from our visit...but only posted a few. Definitely check it out.
This is a nice secondary museum to the one downtown. They have a few dinosaurs to see, but I love the frogs the best. The dig pit (which is 5 bucks) is also one of my sons fave things to do. Not bad when you only have a little bit of time and are looking for something to do with your kids.
Enjoyed a couple of hours here with my family. A nice museum to explore and beat the heat for a while. The staff are very polite and courteous. This place is great for the smaller kids, lots of fun things to explore. A beautiful mineral exhibit with the most surreal geode that Ive ever seen, it truly looked alien in nature. A network of geode pilliars.
This place is VERY small, but there are a lot of cool exhibits and hands-on activities to engage young minds. I am rarely in Sugar Land, but I would definitely visit this place again.
Great atmosphere to chill and a lot of things to learn but staffs is not accommodating.
Two ** place for selling 3 tickets in the summer 1hr prior to closing & not indicating their closing hrs., before hand. 1hr isnt enough to see everything!!! Luckily we asked for a refund & they only prorated a portion of it back ! Otherwise, our visit may not have SUCKED as bad
This extension of the HMNS in Sugar Land is different than the Herman Park museum. Different exhibits with a unique focus. There is a very interesting exhibit there now about salt. You have no idea what there is there until you go, you will be surprised and learn something. There are places for kids to play, things to touch, move and mess around in. We enjoyed it and we are seniors.
This place is so creative. Great place for kids. My nephew has his birthday here and the staff member who helped as was so helpful and sweet.
Although its small, we enjoyed it. Our smallest was happy to be able to touch things and it was even encouraged at the exhibits upstairs. Its a good place to go at a reasonable price if you want to get out of the house for a few hours. Definitely not as crowded as the one downtown.
Small but amazing, friendly staffs and great ambiance.
Wish it was a bit bigger but other than that it was pretty good!
This museum is for small kids. Not much thing to see.
A bit small, but nicely kept and lots of interactive exhibits
We had a great time here. The children loved the dinosaur exhibit.
Ok, would have been better if someone was tell the story of displays. Also, the video was hard to hear and a little worn.
I got the newtons cradle toy and it was tangled when I opened it
We’re very quick to take money but didn’t tell me a lot of the exhibit was done and the dig pit was “out of service “ the dome theater wasn’t set up. Pretty much a half- empty museum for 22$
Great experience. Place was good.
This Museum provides great educational experiences and serves as a good alternative to driving into town for a museum experience. There are several exhibits that are geared toward both young and older children with enough of supplemental detail to even provide an educational experience to adults. The planets of our solar system depictions are very detailed. The dinosaur exhibits are also very nice. Theres even a dig pit where young children can excavate dinosaur bones. Theres also a mini Planetarium where children can also watch educational films.
This little museum was cute, but it is not worth the price we paid. There are very few exhibits. It seemed like there were more gifts in the shop than attractions in the displays.
Family and I came for the first time and what a fantastic time we had! It is a lot smaller than the museum downtown, but the building has a strong history to the city of SugarLand and its great to have that bit of history supporting what now its the museum here. Staff is super friendly and engaged. Major sections include a paleontology hall, interactive physics & energies exhibits for younger ones, amphibians displays, gems & Geo formations, luminous geos, and a dig pit for kids (safe rubber material in the pit - additional cost). They have temporary additional exhibits as well that rotate as the large museum does. I fell this location is great for kids to enjoy & interact with, even though it is so small. Might only take an hour or two of your day, but well worth it.
Great little museum. Not too sure how many people knpw it is here. If you are a member at the main Houston museum your pass will work here too. They have some dinosaur displays as well as other prehistoric displays. There are other great options to explore with the kids as well. Great place for a day out and the kids get to learn something as well.
We love the proximity of this museum charhouse itll be a great escape for home-schooled child. Their location downtown is much bigger and has a lot more to see.
We happened to be in Sugar Land and as I was looking for something to do, I saw this museum. I went to the website and saw that on Thursdays it was free admission for permanent exhibits so we went to check it out. Lo and behold, when we got there, we were told that it was only free at the main museum at the museum district. Seriously? How about putting that info on your website. Whatever we paid the admission. The museum is extremely small. Each exhibit is tiny. What they have is cool but theres barely anything to see and you get through it pretty fast, so that was pretty disappointing as I love science museums and was hoping for more. Their gift shop is also tiny and everything they have is for kids. Except some small gemstones and some big, insanely expensive ones. If youre in the area, you can check it out but its definitely not worth driving out of the way for.
This is a nice place for my kids to hang out. We signed up for the summer camp here and my daughter loved the activities.
Pay a little more and head to the Museum of Natural Science in the museum district. This museum is super small. It basically has a small paleontology hall, a small exhibit of minerals, an area with a few interactive physics exhibits, a dig pit area for kids (extra), a small planetarium, and a couple of toads as “live animal exhibits.” They also had a special exhibit
Everything is so much fun that it’s hard to give 3 stars. But it’s because it’s so much fun that my child and his friends (and I) always have to leave while still wanting more. If they had more activities and longer hours, I’d have rated 5 stars (especially considering the prices!)
Its tiny compared to the Houston location but its clean, the staff are very polite and the digging pit is the main attraction.
Very nice atmosphere, was a lot of fun. Will be back for the other exhibits. Your kids get to dig for dinosaurs! Very cool time.
Great day trip for the little ones.
My six year old son loved it. Its small, but has a whole level of interactive things which is perfect for his attention span. We enjoyed the dig pit and blocks. The staff is also incredibly helpful and friendly.
OH MY GAWD!!!! Why did we not go here before?!?!?! This place is awesome for kids!!! Was not packed. You get to explore and learn in an actual fun environment rather than just trying to avoid being trampled. GO HERE!!!
Great for kids, but not for school assignments.
I attended the museum for a wedding reception!! It is a totally unique and interactive space for guests and I loved the whole experience. All of the interactive experiments I could play with were so cool! The museum is a small, but makes use of its space with lots of exhibitions. From huge 2200 pound gemstones to a t-rex, kids and adults would be entertained!
Great place to take young children. Kids can learn about paleontology, geology and other natural sciences, less about anthropology and civilization in the main museum. Theres even a mini air-fueled planetarium which is sorely in need of updated films.
Great price, hidden location if its your 1st time going we drove around for a little bit not many signs. Fun hands on learning for the children. We will defiantly be coming back
Great way to pass an afternoon for kids and adults alike!
My girlfriend and I had a good time. You can definitely tell by the other reviews that this museum is primarily directed towards children. However, there are some interactive contraptions that can be amusing to an extent. Not worth the hefty price for adults though.
It was cool but of course not as much as the main one! Good visit!
This type of resource should be more affordable, right?
The museum was very neat, especially for small children. I visited here on a Groupon and enjoyed the visit. I was very impressed with the dinosaurs that we saw, but some of the exhibits were broke, one of the frogs was left dead in the tank, and it was very small. It is a great spot for a single day visit and with a couple improvements be very nice.
Great museum with many displays to enjoy!
Kids had a lot of fun. Went as part of a company activity so there was no charge for the extra exhibits. I personally wouldnt pay admission to this small museum that wants to charge additional fees for several of the exhibits.
Total snore if youre over 10-12 years old. Very inconvenient layout. Lots of walking. Good for kids-not much else.
Great safe place for the kids!
Awesome place. Very small compared to their other location but worth the trip.
Love the food there. Much better than IHOP.
My daughter loves this museum. Its obviously much smaller than the main branch downtown. But its a decent size for a quick visit to see some dinosaurs or glow in the dark rocks. They also have a good amount of childrens science toys to play with.
Its a small treasure hidden in sugar land. Great place to learn about dinosaurs and planets. Excellent for small children with all these hands on science games. They have a Collection of History and Mystery of the World were one is able to touch articles and open drawers to look at things.
My kids thought it was ok. I think it’s too expensive for the value of the experience. The digging area was very cool though. The facility is very nice and also conveniently down the street from many shops and restaurants. Worth going once. Probably won’t be back though.
Great place for kids to expand their minds. Enjoyed teaching and learning with the kids.
I took my daughter in 2017 to HMNS .We went to the Zoo initially, but was too cold and she was curious about the nearby Museum.I told her how wonderous the exhibits are and when she found out about the dinosaur section. She immediately wanted to go and visit. We went to all the exhibits and we had not yet made it to the Dinosaurs. We had to take the elevator to the first floor and when we rounded the corner she gasped .You could hear the Jurasic Park music playing in her head .She ran up to every dinosaur and took a picture with every display.I told her to calm down . She was acting like she was 10 again .It was very heartwarming to see her trasform to a child before my eyes, my daughter at age 22 . Holding my hand and dragging me all over the museum. As this world becomes so topsy turvy, we must make efforts to spend time together with our loved ones . I grow older wanting not money ... but time .Time with my small family.
Very nice museum. Smaller than downtown makes it much more doable for small kids. Convenient location for people that live in Sugar Land and surrounding areas.
Small and effective. Tons of cool things packed into a tiny space! It was not crowded which made the experience so much better! Didnt have to yell to communicate with my wife and daughter. Extremely knowledgeable staff! There is a guy with a man bun.. he absolutely loves his job! His insightful knowledge and enthusiasm took our visit to the next level.
Took my 4 year old granddaughter and she absolutely fell in love with all the Museum and dinosaurs!
Great place, without the crowds of the main museum. Has many good displays.
A smaller version of the main museum. Very kid oreinted and great learning enviroment. Went for a kid birthday and the staff was great.
I went with my family on the last day of our vacation. It was something to do before the car-ride home. We got a corporate discount rate, so it was only 5 dollars per person. I wouldnt pay the normal 10 per person, especially since you can go through the whole museum in under an hour. Its something to do, and isnt anywhere near as time-consuming as the larger one in the museum district, but theres no point in going again, it just wasnt as impressive as the other one. I left slightly disappointed.
Great experience for the kids. We went around Halloween so they were able to enjoy the hunted house. Friendly staff.
Nice little museum to visit. Not very crowded on a Sunday afternoon.
Small museum that is very kid friendly. All the workers were nice and knowledgeable.
Took my nephew here for an afternoon out and he enjoyed it. Smaller than I expected, but the displays are interesting regardless. Just dont expect to spend a long time here.
Didnt even know this museum was here. I officiated a wedding there and it was gorgeous. I will be utilizing it for an event and taking my grandchildren there
It is a nice museum. Really small, the butterfly garden is not really that, we only saw a couple of them. But I think kids enjoy it and its a good alternative to the one in Houston
Called ahead of time and a male rep that answered the phone lied.Called a second time asked the same question and rep place me on hold to looked for the 30.06 sign. No sign was found, then lied.As far as atmosphere for family was okay. Staff were board and playing on their cellphones. All employees were not engaging to customers except for the guy who was controlling the theatre.Claimed there was a 30.06 and 30.07 sign on the door under the hours.
Pretty awesome place. The kids loved it. But some things were closed and it wasnt as big as we were led on. We paid to go in the block place and went there first and only after going in did we get told we couldnt re-enter. Wish we wouldve known first so my kid didnt cry the whole time wanting to go back. He still had a good time being distracted by the many cool things, but that was a negative. Its a cool place but has the potential to be way better.
This is my first time here. It smaller than expected but the kids had fun. The main branch is way better. Was easy to navigate.
The fort bend gifted and talented program poorly organized a night for families. I hope everyone does better the next time. More organization is needed. My kids werent able to attend and the doctort couldnt care less.
This is a 2hr session with kids. Disappointingly small and limited. For the price of a ticket they should really have offered more. Museum is well kept, clean and comprehensive...for a few dinosaurs. Google Maps pin takes you to back of the facility FYI
The museum in Downtown Houston is much larger than this one, but its still a Wonderful place to bring the kids and entire family! My kids love the planetarium shows, frog aquariums, and dinosaur exhibits. Good location and parking.
Great place for kids but check before going as many sections are closer
I love this little museum in Sugar Land. The dig pit is so cool for kids and its far less crowded than the Houston location with free parking.
Hands on for kiddies. Plenty of Displays of assembled Dinosaur bones, fossils & rocks. Galaxy & Star large Posters. Asteroid displays. HWY 6 to west on Universitiy Blvd in Sugar Land TX. Easy free parking. Good stuff, Maynard. Then take the kids to the Town & Country Mall IF your feeling indulgent. Adult & Child interests.
While it may be smaller than its larger Houston cousins, it is still a great place to bring the family. We live within fifteen minutes and I use it frequently for the kids to get out of the house and explore in a safe, comfortable, and educational environment. For smaller kids the dig pit is a lot of fun! Id recommend becoming a member so you dont worry about how much you see in one visit!
My niece and her friend loved it. All the kids were having lots of fun.
Great fun with some interesting things to see. A little on the small side but lots of interesting and interactive things to do
