Beautiful old fashioned theatre with well-curated art house and mainstream films. Staff is nice and seats wide and comfy. Good parking and nice small city vibe with restaurants and shops all around to visit

The Avon theater is a historic building and has been a movie venue for a long time. They make an effort to show interesting and off the beaten path films. At this visit we saw the first James Bond film, with recently deceased Sean Connery. 1962 I think; Dr. No. They are offering a series of Sean Connery as James Bond in chronological order. Very Nice. At this visit the popcorn was not the greatest, but the personel, seating and movie was fine.

They seem to have approximately the same schedule of films as the Angelika in NYC, about one or two weeks later. A nice suburban alternative if you dont want to travel to the city to see these films. Also, both theaters are beautifully restored.

Our favorite movie theater. Always high quality, curated films. Some are prior to wide release and others more suitable to a limited audience. Always highly regarded films, Al la Jacob Burns in Pleasantville, NY

Every city should have a small vintage theatre. A great spot for small independent movies and documentaries. They even do the occasional cult classic on weeknights. The concession stands are fairly priced and the theatre was recently remodelled too boot. Go there and enjoy this local wonder.Given that the Avon is a non-profit teachers can apply for a educator pass which gets them into regular showings at no charge.

One of the best places in Fairfield County! Somewhat of a well-kept secret in this 1939 restored cinema. Excellent films with a lot of diversity. Great staff. The best popcorn in town. And people are really serious about watching the movie as opposed to talking.

LOVE the old - time look of the theater. Its actually larger than it looks from the outside. And even though it is a smaller venue, everything is in good shape, seats are clean and comfortable. Cute, small concession stand.

Awesome local biz - but only the main theater is special. The smaller screen is not the same experience. Great location.

Nothing short of dreadful. Narrow, very old seats with little padding, and armrests with no padding--your arms will sit on hard plastic ribs. The screen is unusually small--somewhat larger than a home theater, but not much larger. would never go back in 100 years.

Absolute, total treasure. Without it, downtown Stamford would be a total wasteland of expensive, ugly food and bars (I take that back, there is also the Library). 130,000 people in this city and at least there is one truly great and affordable venue for culture. Thanks for being there!

Old school movie theater in every sense. They have 1 very large and one smaller theater and they stick mainly limited release films. The staff is always very friendly and its great to be able to see new movies that wouldnt otherwise be shown at the normal theaters.
