The mansion is open to the public with tours that teach about the buildings and states history.
Worth a visit to see how many of our former governors lived here before prison.
Our tour guide Valerie was very thorough. We didnt get to see that much of the house, and the tours are definitely meant for high school and college kids. Cool place though!
Beautiful home
A marvelous and historical yet accessible gem.
Great tour guide and very informative! Would highly recommend.
Dr. Sara Tancredi once lived here.
Nice history and hope they restore
Great tour & ITS FREE
We were very lucky to visit the Governor’s Mansion while visiting Springfield.
So-so mansion, terrible tour guideVisited this attraction with friends. Tour guide was terrible. John was his name. Made it very clear there were other tours going in the house at same time and he could only do so much with a crowd. Rushed through the intro. Stated several times, we didnt have time to see this, or that....When we lagged a bit behind to look at artwork or whatever, he stated, ok, I will say this one more time, I wait until everyone is in the room until I begin my speech. Save yourself John, we didnt want to hear what you were saying, we wanted to see the house and displays. When the tour headed up the stairs to see the bedrooms, we headed down the stairs and out the door. Couldnt get out fast enough. This attraction would be much better served as a self guided tour with experts mingling to answer questions or offer insights. Tour guides like John ruin the experience.
The rehab done to this house is amazing.
Our tour guide was terrible and explained random things. He qas very rude to our class while we were on the field trip. Do not recommend.
This building is so sad. It needs redone pronto! We deserve better then this. We need a governor that will revamp the mansion.
The place itself is a reminder that Springfield is the state capitol, and the governor belongs in it.Its sad that some governors have not lived in it. But, the results of their legacy have revealed their character; or lack thereof. This place has been used as a place of Bible study and prayer early in the mornings; at least once a week. That is awesome too.
Lame tour...It was presented in a manner that conveyed a feeling of boredom. Felt as if it was a PowerPoint. Strongly recommend that any school group spends their time at another historical site such as the old capitol.
When we went last year (2016) the tour was nice although a little boring for the Jr High kids we took. Not too many interesting facts were given to make it more interesting for them. The gardens were the highlight of the place. Absolutely gorgeous. This year, it was under construction so we didnt go. From the outside the garden looked like a construction zone...so sad, no flowers or fountain. I only recommend if you are with a groups of older student who are truly interested in Illinois state history. Was not really worth our time.
Neat tour. Glad I wasnt charged. Since I pay Illinois taxes. Looks good, but needs work. Even though the mansion isnt a high priority in the states budget. Private donations is the majority of the budget for them.
Impressive!
Bj porker is a joke
Nice historical residence
Another thing to be proud of in Illinois.
Sweet
Next people living here are Bruce and Diana Rauner
