Steven Troupe is good at his job at the Y. Steven knows the ins and outs of the pricing of services and will sign you up quickly and reasonably. Steven will get you in shape in no time. The Y is clean and theres a nice little cafe out front with nice coffee and chai tea.Oh, but the Y cut back to three days a week due to coronavirus.
I have been swimming at the Central YMCA 3 times a week for about two months now. Everyone who works there is super nice and very helpful. I always enjoy walking in and seeing their friendly faces. I appreciate that they have a strict protocol in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They take everyones temperature at check-in, ask everyone to wash their hands before they proceed inside the facility, and do a screening test every time. I love that they are taking this seriously. They currently have a reservation system such that you do not share your lap lane at the pool. Its been amazing being able to reserve your own lane! While I swim, there seems to be someone constantly disinfecting all the areas that people are likely to touch, and if you ask for a kickboard or water dumbbells, they always make sure its sanitized before giving it to you.
Almost always have a great visit! Every once in a while I get frustrated but hey whose perfect!
I gave two stars because the staff was pleasant. I cancelled my membership after being there for 3 weeks. The swimming pool is crowded and the few lanes they have open, becomes even fewer when they have their classes in the pool. Yesterday I was 15 minutes into my workout when I got tangled with the lane dividers, I adjusted and kept swimming, a few more strokes and I and again, I tangled with the divider. I stopped swimming looked up and they were removing the dividers and didnt care their was a person swimming, so basically I was being netted and pushed to the side (all I wanted to do was finish my lap and get out), When I looked up one of the aerobics participants looked at me with an entitled grin and said, Its time for our aerobics. I wasnt even allowed to finish the last length to complete my lap.The staff just walked around and didnt say or do anything, they didnt care. I think the staff should handle the clearing of the pool; however, white women need their empowerment and maybe this is how the Y does things; besides, Im just an older white male, its acceptable to kick us to the curb.I have been going to gyms and working out for the past 30+ years (including the PDX YMCA) and I have never had to wonder if I will be able to workout or finish my workout, until now. The pool was going to help me get back in shape without the joint pain and arthritis in my knee flaring up. Being in the pool was wonderful. I will go back to my gym workout at home and manage the pain, Its a pain that Im used to.
I used to go here as I child and I love the Y!
I love being part of the Central Y community. The Y has an old school wholesome vibe that is welcoming to all levels and abilities of citizens looking to exercise. I think Stefani is the best yoga teacher in Spokane, and her Saturday morning classes are nurturing and as challenging as you are inclined, with no judgment. I really appreciate the front desk staff too.
Great place to work and workout! cant wait for it to reopen!
Im so thankful for the shared space to respect and take care of ourselves. There is something truly special about looking around in the heat of workout and seeing everyone else doing them same in their own way. Keep up the good work everyone, and many thanks to the staff and team who make it possible.
Well the YMCA is a bunch of thieves. I had an issue last month with them stealing from my dad. They resolved the issue by shorting him 20$. Today I get an invoice for before school care and it states I didnt pay them for last month or this month there is 40$ in fees stating I owe 604 dollars. I should only owe 282 as I re paid after they just charged my dad. They do not know how to run a business. Their accounting is all messed up and they are over priced. My son will no longer attend the before school care after this month. I would not recommend at all.
I use the central Y about twice a week. I swim with my kids and put them into the child watch. I keep fit using the treadmill and relax in the sauna, spa and jacuzzi. The YMCA is so vital to our familys weekly routine that I honestly dont know what we would do without it. Thank you to the staff for maintaining such a warm and inclusive space!
The teen age center is lit especially when Bella works and the basketball court is small that’s why I didn’t give it a 5 but it’s okay and the gyms good
Great place to work out or just go for a swim. The staff is very warm and welcoming. Love it.
The staff is really friendly and helpful. The facility is always clean. I really enjoy my time at the YMCA.
Love this place and the non judgemental atmosphere I look forward to my every morning workout now.
The facilities are cramped equipment is way to close together. When machines are broke down they dont seem to care. they dont fix them . I personally have seen broken equipment sit broken for four or five months.
Wonderful facility. Theres is nothing to complain about. Situations that need to be addressed or fixed, are. The staff, the members are all wonderful. For those who complain, just go somewhere else.
Having never been a part of anything I am having the time of my life being part of the YMCA,, Ive been swimming near every day and I am happy to tell you so,,,thank you for the opportunity to be a part of the community,, just another disabled old person
Very friendly answered all my questions helped me when it was needed great atmosphere I loved it
Had a terrible experience there today. I brought my five year old and 18 month old to the pool. I walked in asked for towels, got the dressed walked to the pool to find out kids arent allowed to swim until 12:30 on a sunday. Thats half the day kids arent allowed to use something i pay a lot for. I spoke withthe lead guard about it and she was explaining this to me. I didnt know before hand. As she was speaking with me another male member begain to raise his voice at me about speaking to the lifeguard about it. I told him he made me uncomfortable and to please stop speaking to me. He continued to at me. Then proceeded to make fun of me to other people. The lifeguard was there for the altercation and apologizes for what happened. But did nothing to stop it. I reported it to the front desk. Then explained to my 5 year old about the scarey man who yelled at mommy. Not feeling like its a great family place. I spoke with steven and rachel who work there. They have changed the policy and little kids can now swim in the morning in the activity pool. Thank you for listening to members and making changes. You guys are great.
The young lady that assisted me with my membership wasnt very welcoming & made me feel that she needed to be somewhere else. I asked specifically where the pool was & about the aquatics classes, she pointed down a hall & told me the locker rooms are down there, & I could access the pool from there. I didnt get a tour like I did at my other gym, which was discerning. I contacted this Y, a couple of months ago, through email twice about this & requesting a bit more info on the aquatics, I have yet to get a response. I thought the YMCA was supposed to be a better place then this...
Oh how I love the YMCA! fantastic and helpful staff, and the pool is wonderful!!!
Awesome place doing their best to incorporate all. Bravo to the staff and board.
I love the treadmills. I especially love the staff and all many options available.
Its a really great place fun to go to. But the gym floors are just so dirty and hard to play ball on.
I dont feel the Ymca adequately serves my needs for community and family. Rather, I feel marginalized and neglected. Heres why:The primary audience of the Ymca are mainly senior citizens or people with children. So I guess you could say children in general. Most if not all the programs are tailored towards these groups. Programs aside, it is hard to feel part of a community when most people working out are on a leash or on oxygen (Im 26, not on oxygen, sometimes wife puts a leash on me tho). The facilities are ok, but could be better I guess. Im thinking of finding a more athletic gym in the meantime, where people share likeminded goals and habits as I do.And before you ask what have I done to serve and give back to the Y, I have been very involved in their programs, which led to my present dissatisfaction.
The ymca has provided such a positive experience for my entire family. I am a single mother of two teens. It is a positive place for my kids to play basketball, and participate in healthy activities that are safe and supervised. The ymca helped me to change my lifestyle and lose 65 pounds in one years time. I love the variety of classes from beginner to advanced. It’s also awesome that you can use different locations even when traveling!! I have used locations multiple times while traveling to the coast.
For the past 3 weeks, I or other members. I have noticed that they are either out of paper towels in the wellness area, or they are out of spray to wipe down the machines. Or they are out of toilet paper in the bathroom. We have written comment cards and have told staff. Nothing is being done :-(
My kids love coming here. The Childwatch workers are great. My wife takes several classes here & likes all the instructors. Weight room is usually relatively picked up (its hard to keep up with all the jerks who refuse to re-rack their weights when theyre done). In response to a couple negative reviews - I have NEVER been ridiculed by other people here for how much I can or cannot lift. Employees are NEVER rude. Looking at the names of these reviewers, they are both characters from the Princess Bride. I submit that they are fake reviews from YMCA competition and should be disregarded as gross manipulation.
We recently moved our daughter to the Y for childcare. Such wonderful staff and a caring environment!
I got an item of mine stolen from the gym and I cannot find out who stole them because there is no cameras
I highly recommend choosing a different gym. Very dangerous gym to bring your family. I was working out on more than one occasion and was constantly being bullied out of machines I was on for less than 5 minutes. I finally said something and he staff was on the bullies side and this has got to be the worst experience I have ever had at any gym. While the staff has the door wide open the director was talking to me and didn’t believe me that that guy was bullying me and that guy wasn’t even wearing gym clothes he was there to pick a fight basically. While I started getting upset about the injustice that was happening another guy was standing behind the guy who was intimidating me and he started smiling and making funny faces at me while this was happening then shortly after that the director kicks ME off the property and I’m the one experiencing this injustice. This place says it’s a Christian gym that is the most messed up false advertisement you can have. Then shortly someone calls me 3 days later and starts to tell me I’m the one in the wrong, the guy was very prideful and wouldn’t admit wrong at all. While this whole experience was happening at the gym I talked to a couple other employees who were extremely rude and condescending this was a few months ago and my membership was 40$ yes that’s right you guys are over paying for a problem they refuse to fix that’s costing them business
Love this place! Friendly atmosphere and great facility.Very reasonable fee for what they offer.
Most any gym will be more affordable and generally better than the YMCA. The YMCA harms the community with predatory employment practices and the community would be better off without the YMCA.
The customer service is going south. Been a member for a while, came back after a year of not visiting an hour an a half before closing and the lady was offering me $20 for a day pass.
Absolutely, positively, the worst gym...gym, hmpf...Ive ever been a member of. Overcharged, underwhelmed. Nothing but a bunch of flim flam and whoopla. Charged nearly 60$ a month for old equipment, dirty facilities, and filthy pool. And I mean filthy; full of piss and excrement. The spa is like stewing in a vat filled with a hodgepodge assortment of bacteria. All rules and etiquette are lackly enforced. Unattended children run wild everywhere. A foul stench fills the air. It is the gym of the future, if the future is a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
People are great, but unfair that pool now closed at 9:30. Why do I have to pay for others not getting out on time. Pool lanes are generally monopolized by the swim team; and when there are lanes open most of the time it is only 2. After my swim, with 3 people in the lane, I went into the steam room that barely worked. I decided to call it quits for the evening. To my surprise the swim suit spinner was off the wall. Generally i value my experience here, but there are definitely some areas that really need improvement. I continue to pay my bill on time so maybe these areas can be addressed more timely.
Shity rude staff, and the hot tub and locker rooms are unsanitary.Very disappointing for a family operated facility. I wouldnt recommend it.
This place has many quirks. There are usually not enough lap lanes (pool) open throughout the day. Check the schedule before deciding if this place will work for you. The showers in the mens locker room are kept scalding hot. The lockers are small and awkwardly shaped. They do provide towels, which is the only plus over the Y I attended before.
Great facility, staff is super friendly. Childwatch is exceptional! My only complaint is that the weights area is bit small and lacking equipment for serious lifters
Great people and resources thru Ywca for women... However the actual facilities for working out are disgustingly dirty most of the time. And the prices are wayyyy to high compared to others in town. They increase your fees without letting you know repeatedly. And make customers pay for remodels without letting them know. Highly unprofessional and wrong in my opinion!!
I have been working out at this YMCA for the past couple of years. The staff for the majority of the time are very friendly and the exercise machines are fun to go on, especially the ellipticals. Definitely recommended.
Excellent. We all love it here. The staff is excellent, like family. The facitilty is always clean.
The daycare could be open more but it is a lovely facility.
Clean, easy access, staff that I interacted with were friendly and polite.
Great facility and the people were just great.
Friendly employees and great people to workout with...
