California wine country is simply amazing. Sonoma Plaza condenses that experience into a walking tour that can be navigated in a single afternoon. Sonoma Plaza features world class wines, amazing restaurants (The Girl and the Fig is a must!!!) a couple of historical landmarks, shops and a few surprises. Sonoma Plaza is beautiful in its own. Arranged as a very walkable square, the center of the plaza is filled with trees and contains a small playground to help keep younger kids happy. Shops and restaurants surround the trees. Free parking is available, but expect a shortage of parking during busy seasons. Sonoma Plaza is not a substitute for visiting actual vineyards, but should be viewed as a destination its own right. Sonoma Plaza is about 30 minutes away from Napa downtown, which offers its own unique experience in a more urban setting. Call ahead for reservations especially during COVID-19 restrictions.

Unfortunately Covid has pretty much killed downtown Sonoma. Secondly, I was here during the LNU Complex fire. So the smoke was causing restaurants to close due to the smoke. I wish everyone the best during fire season and to first responders!

This is a pretty location. Theres lots of music, food, wine, and people milling about enjoying themselves. If youre looking for a spot with a historical feel for photographs, then we recommend the Sonoma Plaza area! Theres enough architecture and greenery to have a diverse set of backdrops for those portrait photographs. Our tip is to come earlier in the day. Youll want to beat the heat and the crowds.

Great little place just steps off the Plaza. Handmade chocolate and nice ice cream. Would have given a five but, sugar free chocolates are not made in store and employees do not know the exact ingredients, a bad thing for someone with medical conditions.

We stopped into the Sonoma County Visitors Information building and spoke to Ann Marie. She gave us some really good recommendations of places to visit while in the city of Sonoma (we had already done quite a bit of the rest of the county). She also gave us quite a few referral cards for local wine tasting, many of which were 2-for-1 deals. Would highly recommend a stop here before heading on to visit the city AND county as they have a ton of great information available.

Its an ok place to hang out, stroll around, have a drink, or something to eat. The center of the plaza has good grass area for picnic and family with children to enjoy. However, if youre a little older (around 55+), you maybe enjoying it more. There are some wine tasting shops, but definitely wouldnt be the same as in the actual winery.

A very large square with nice lawns and benches. There is also a building where there are restrooms. Flanking the plaza are buildings in all 4 sides where the are many interesting stores, boutique stores, and cafes/restaurants as well as few tasting rooms. There is also parking all along the plaza as well although this is still not likely enough especially during high season in winter country.

Great little down town for a stroll or coffee or grabbing a bite. The city hall plaza is decorated with the LOVE sculpture and theres a little pond right next to it. Lots of good restaurants too. We went to the girl and the fig a while ago and quite liked it. Weathers usually pretty warm out there if its not rainy.

If you want to spend a different Saturday or Sunday, go to a Winery in Sonoma, my favorite is the Kunde Family Winery, then go to the plaza in Sonoma, you will find a lot of historical building well preserved. Very spanish style. And then you will be surprised for the incredible food option that is around the plaza. The Lady and the Fig, El Dorado, La Salette are some mazing options. You will come back for more!

Great place to take your kids! There are two playgrounds (one for babies and toddlers, the other for bigger kids), theres a pond with a fountain and ducks and turtles. The tourist info is right there in the square along with city hall. And public bathrooms are right there beside the built in amphitheatre. We spend hours here. And if you get bored, theres shopping, museums, restaurants and cafes all around it!

Pretty, peaceful and somewhat pricey this part of Sonoma is great for locals and tourists a like. Lots of great places to sit down and eat or garb some fresh cheese and bread from the cheese shop and go sit in the shady square and feed the ducks while you snack. The fun historical setting adds a great background vibe. Plus the candy shop within walking distance is my favorite!
