Every chance Ive gotten to go to the Woodland Park Zoo has been an enjoyable adventure. All the animals seem to have adequate space and habitats. Given this youll likely only get to see about 2/3 of the animals, as they can be hiding or out of the viewing habitat for some reason or another, but with the size of the zoo there is plenty more to see. The last time I went in November 2020, they were handling the covid restrictions well. The occupancy of the zoo was limited and staff were monitoring how many people were in any of the more closed off areas. Unfortunately most of the indoors areas were not open to viewing, but there were many more opportunities to spent time looking at the animals with a much smaller crowd around.
One of my favorite places. We went as kids, my mom had a zoo membership and now I have one too. We would go almost every other weekend before the pandemic. Before the pandemic we were really lucky to see some cool behavior from the animals that live there. I miss the rainforest and being able to sit in the area with the free flying birds. Ill bet the ocelot is so happy with the lack of human near their exhibit now.
This was one of my favorite places to take my kids. When you live in a city that is crowded, it feels amazing for kids to have roamability without mama bear being nervous that they have wandered too far. This place will always have a special place in my heart. Worth being a member and worth a visit definitely! (Especially during a pandemic)
Brought my grandson and kids here for Labor Day weekend. It was so nice outside but only saw a few animals. It was also tough because the Covid rules were stringent but what we did see were some good ones! I’m sure if it wasn’t Covid season it would have been a better more free way to visit. I appreciate them trying so much though! We will have to come back after Covid season or election
We went here today for the animal lanterns. They follow strict social distancing guidelines and always need to wear mask. The lanterns are beautiful! Its something new for this year and its awesome.
My zoo. Im a member and go there about once every other to three weeks. Super great zoo. Best place to walk around period. They do Covid right because they are biologists.
Beautiful outdoor zoo with some really spectacular exhibits. During this trip they also had the light up zoo animals, but I came in the morning. I got my ticket through Seattle City Pass, otherwise I’m not sure I would’ve visited. If you are visiting the Seattle area with kids, it’s definitely a great place to spend a morning.
This feels like more of a park with animals than a zoo. Thats not a bad thing. Most zoos Ive been too are just pen after pen of sleepy animals with nothing in between. Woodland Park Zoo has way more open space and trees and landscaping with large pens in between. I went on the weekend that they introduced some new red panda cubs! YES!
Staff were awesome. Social distancing was honored by other patrons as well as respect in allowing everyone a chance to view exhibits without hostility twords one another or hogging of space. Staff were very friendly and didnt rush anyone along during closing time. Just made sure they knew it was time to leave and to please do so at a respectful pace.
I have loved WPZ since I was a child. They have set up new social distancing and a one-way path through the zoo, which is like 95% perfect. My only small complaint is that the signs werent clear that you would miss some animals if you followed a specific route, so I didnt get to see my fave animals (the tigers). But were members, so Im excited to go back when the close-up experiences are open again.
Absolutely the BEST Christmas Lights! So many lights, not crowded, so much fun! This will definitely be a new family tradition.
My family and I go here all the time when we vist Seattle my child loves the animals and some areas you can interact with the birds. I love the exhibits as well as the merry go round the little ones love it. They have fantastic food and live the sitting area. I decided to wear heal boots and my feet were killing me but in the gift store they have shoes you can purchase love the thinking ahead. This is a place for all ages I still enjoy it myself. Last time we went I was able to get pictures next to a baby tiger.
Came for wild lanterns. The were amazing and it was so nice to do something social that was also covid safe. Tonight was sold out, and dont know if any opted out, but the crowd was small enough that it was easy to stay physically distanced.
Amazing zoo! Have gone since I was a kid and it’s great. For Covid they have a one way walkway and make people 5+ wear masks, I felt quite safe. They have food you can buy, and the membership price isn’t bad. They also have a zoo store! The animals themselves are so great to look at, always new babies!
This zoo is absolutely wonderful and has some of the best executed reopening plans that I’ve seen since the pandemic started. My partner and I visited twice before the pandemic started and a third time since they’ve reopened. They had a very clear cut path for everyone to follow through the zoo and the staff were diligent but polite about making sure distance was maintained between parties but that everyone also got to see what they came for. Some of the more interactive exhibits were closed, but that’s understandable and I’m sure they’ll be open again one day!
Not a bad covid experience. Plenty to still do and see with minimal crowds. Food gets expensive so bring your own (especially water, which is only sold in small $4.50 cans). All the indoor areas are closed so go into it expecting only the base animal experience. Took my friend there and we still had a 4 hour enjoyable day.
Great place to spend time with family and friends. The zoo is doing a great job with COVID protocols. It is a one way only loop, which takes minimum 2 hrs to get through. If you plan on spending lunch expect anywhere from 3-4 hrs pending on the foot traffic in the zoo grounds. Lots of places to sit and eat a packed lunch as well.
We used to visit WLC many years ago. Its great theyre open for private tours during covid. Our tour included their giraffe animal experience and was definitely worth it. Our tour guide for the 10am tour was Larysa and she was friendly, clear with explaining safety protocols, and very knowledgeable with the animals. WLC was clean and well maintained, and the animals appeared well cared for. We had a wonderful experience and would love to come back in the future!
Nice place to visit. They have one way paths marked to keep people away from each other. Overall very pleasant experience.
Love our local zoo!! The revised Covid policies are well thought out and they continue to improve. The animals seem happy and well fed and the park is always clean. Will be bringing our baby here for years to come.
The zoo is beautiful and it has great trails taking the kids through. Very educational and you will also find spots to rest and grab some eats if you ever get hungry. Parking is plenty but is a bit on the higher side in my opinion.
Was pretty sweet, not crowded when going at 9:30am time slot. Buy tickets early as they go fast. Park in otter lot on westside of zoo. Masks strictly enforced and they wont hesitate to tell people and have security. A lot of people however will not care about social distancing which is disappointing. Feel free to tell them to back off, especially when you and almost everyone else has young ones to protect! Love the zoo and their staff, very friendly as long as you mind the rules and one way traffic! Have fun!!!! We all need it!!!!
Its even better now! They really had a good system worked out, so much so that my 76 year old mother and her older sister felt safe to come out and do this with us. Besides feeling safe, we had the added bonus of so few people in the Zoo that we got to see everything more up close and without crowds. It was ideal, wish they could keep it like that always!
My daughter absolutely loved this place. You get an up close and personal look at every animal they have. Some were closed due to COVID and they close at 4 instead of 6 so get there early to see everything!
Nice and simple. The animals have ample of space and a good habitat, instead of small cages. Social distancing maintained
I loved taking my 1 year old for his birthday! He loved it. There was open space for him to walk around. Also adequate space to sit down for lunch.
Spent a great day here! Theres a one way system in place to minimise crowding and the staff are all very knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about the animals they care for. I think some of the exhibits were closed due to the season/covid restrictions so will definitely have to go back!
Love the zoo! Its a great family outing and Im appreciative of the safety precautions that theyre taking: timed entry, one way traffic, limiting number of visitors at certain exhibits. Sure, you might not get to see everything every time since you have to keep moving but thats the beauty of nature. Plus, nothing stops you from following the one way path again!
Beautiful zoo. They have done everything possible to keep families safe during this time. Its a bit dismal to see the amenities all closed (except for the gift shop and bathrooms) but its understandable and the workers were all very friendly and helpful.
Very beautiful grounds and the tree canopy was delightful, but not much of a zoo. The exhibits that were open did not have many animals. In fact, almost all of the exhibits were closed. Ive been to the zoos in Houston, DC, Fort Worth, and San Antonio and they put this zoo to shame. We enjoyed walking around as it was a beautiful day, but I do not plan on a return trip unless they make some serious upgrades. Also, they could put an additional soap dispenser in the bathrooms. Overall a complete waste of money. Youve been warned.
I usually go here once a year. Now that we have a little girl it makes it that much more fun. She loves looking at the animals and loves to walk around and waste all that energy. Big park with a big array of different critters to see. Highly recommend.
We had such a great day here! They have a butterfly garden which I loved. All animals look well cared for, enclosures were clean and spacious and lots of information is around the enclosures to learn about the animals.
The wild lanterns light show was so pretty! At first I thought the price was too much but once there I changed my mind. The price was so worth it for the beautiful artwork and light display. We want to come back. Great work Woodland Park Zoo!!
We ranged in age from 11 - 81 and all enjoyed the Wild Laterns exhibit.
Amazing! I love the environment there and all of the animals are so cool! Thank you to all of the zoo workers that have been feeding and taking care of all of the animals! Even in this troubling time! Would definitely recommend.
What can I say? Its woodland Park zoo. This is an iconic Seattle landmark that has been around forever. They have a great brand but also they are great to the animals and provide an amazing experience for the kids. I believe the prices are fair, when you get the seasons pass, as we use it all the time. Theres always something new and the kids are super excited to go every time.
I loved this place! So cute, very personal. The workers were really sweet and helpful. Very cheap pricing for such a fUn up close experience. If I had kids Id definitely take them.
The zoo is nice and clean. It looks like that the animals having good care.
The zoo was awesome. WILD LANTERNS was really cool we.had lots of fun
Zoos get a bad rap sometimes but I feel that Woodland Park Zoo does its best to be stewards of wildlife and the environment. Even in the midst of a pandemic they havent lost sight of their goals and continue to provide the best service they can under the circumstances. Currently a lot of exhibits or sections are closed off, and dont go unless you have at least an hour to spend preferably an hour and a half due to one way paths limiting route options.
Wonderful management keeping employees safe and available to help and inform attendees. Their animals are in very realistic habitats.
I LOVE Woodland Park Zoo! The staff are incredibly kind and accommodating, the animals are so lively and entertaining, and the whole Zoo is just a wonderful experience. Make sure to bring a carrier or stroller, because it’s pretty spread out and little ones can easily get tired. There are small parks/climbing areas and things for littles to do inside the zoo like the zoonasium. Make sure to grab a map when you go inside so that you don’t miss anything. Easily one of my favorite Seattle places.
Lovely place to take your kids. Make sure you drop the family off closer to the entrance with strollers and then go searching for parking. Parking is ample but sometimes can be a longer walk to the ticketing gate. You might want to get the annual pass if you want to visit more often. It saves you a lot of money.Depending on the weather, sometimes the animals arent visible. The zoo has a great map and you should plan 2-3 hours before lunch, and 2-3 hours after lunch to leisurely visit all exhibits. For photographers, long lenses are your friend in the zoo. Most places are out in the open. Some well ventilated indoor places, the flexibility of a f2.8 mid-range zoom, like a 16-55 works well enough. Some poorly lit exhibits like the bugs world would need a fast f1.4 prime to keep the ISO down.I think they do allow tripods but it may slow you down, and are of no use as most animals keep moving. If you have the skills to focus fast, a macro lens will give you some good pictures of flowers and birds, especially in the aviaries.
I was incredibly pressed with the public health measures when we visited the zoo. Not only do they require masks and good distancing, they have staffing to support and enforce the requirements. There is great signage and friendly staff. It is our first outing in six months, and I was able to relax just a little as my kids stretched their legs and we enjoyed visiting the animals. Really grateful for all the hard work that clearly went into this, and proud to be a member.
Beautiful Zoo in Seattle. Well maintained. The Will Lanterns Exhibit was spectacular.
Nice and amazing zoo. They have protocols for Covid - 19.
We love this Zoo! Tons of really interesting animals to see - favorites are the bears and wolves! We ended up switching to an annual membership and visit every 2-3 weeks on the weekends. The walk is so lovely, relaxing and peaceful.
Favorite places to go i always enjoy my time there I took some close friends and showed them all the great stuff
I love this zoo! The animal exhibits are nice and spacious, and the staff is always friendly. I had such a good time during my previous visits, I have now become a member. Great for a quick visit with the kids to enjoy some lunch in support of the zoo, or to check out the new additions to the zoo family like the baby Gorilla and Tapir. Easily stay all day with the park like atmosphere that is near the carousel. Perfect spot to enjoy the shade, let the kids play, or have a picnic.
I had a great day at the zoo! The staff was friendly and helpful, Covid protocol was followed to the letter (dont even think about taking your mask off!) Yes, some exhibits where crowding is unavoidable were closed but its so great to have the zoo open again!
Its was beautiful fun place to go with family, specially lots of fun for kids...cant wait to go again
Loved to see the animals. With that said I wasnt to pleased with how they are doing things. Couldnt go into any of the attractions which is half the zoo. Plus all extra little stands closed down. But their little food spots were open but think $3 per every 12oz can of soda was just plain dumb. With that pricing the 6 of us just waited to eat after we left. And with the way people are being let in you end up with whole groups of people going thru every half hr or so which made the crowding a little much at the few spots you could find animals. Long lines to see said animals. The zoo was clean and animals looked well cared for. Enclosures did seem small for some of animals.
We enjoy coming here and a membership is affordable if you enjoy it. My family likes to see everything so we spend a good part of the day walking and enjoying the Zoo. The place is kept clean and I have no issue stopping at a table and having a bite to eat. We love the penguins and the otters.
Great zoo, wonderful way to spend the day. Highlights include the penguins, gorillas, and the bear brothers. My favorites were the wolves and bats (although the bats didnt do much.) Big cats, giraffes and zebras, kangaroos, and much much more. Keep a sharp look out, the zoo is also home to wild rabbits.
We love the zoo. We were just very disappointed that the website said it closed at 6 and when we arrived at 2:30 they told us it closed at 4.
I really like this zoo but a little upset theres no elephants but I read about why they were removed and its probably better. Still a nice place to take the kids
Make sure all your party has the same cultural approach to timed entry.
It is one of the best zoo in the world. When you feel comfortable seeing captured animals, when you think their environment is almost like the real one would be. I have been in some zoos where animals look miserable or even they lose their sanity:(... Seattle zoo keeps animals healthy both physically and emotionally. I was very pleased and my kids too.
It takes a lot to get 5 stars from me, it has to be damn near perfect. I mean what else is 5 stars for? This place was amazing! Even with covid, the 1 way paths, it was a lot of fun! The place is beautiful, huge, and outside! A few of the animals were what I can only assume was vacation, the wolves, and others I cant remember, and it was still awesome!
Well-planned, natural habitats are accessed along verdant green pathways. A wide variety of animals are available for viewing and because the zoo is so spread out it seldom seems crowded. Lots of benches and tables all around the zoo grounds to eat a picnic lunch.
The zoo was awesome. Plenty of safety policies in place for COVID so we felt safe. All the other guests were cooperative in following rules. A great day learning and seeing some amazing animals.
Latern show was pretty. No animals out bummer for zoo.
They are doing the best they can with the current situation. They had plenty of signage for their new one way path through the zoo. They did a decent job filtering the amount of people in one area at a time.I think my one note would be to try and have more hand sanitizer around near signs and such as people were still touching everything.
Went first of August and they are operating pretty well with Covid. 100% face coverings on everyone and one way paths with everything outdoor. So it seems pretty safe for family. Some areas closed off so not getting full experience. I do like the limited attendance and selling only so many tickets for any given hour. They did sell out for the Saturday we went but got tix ahead. Overall they have decent animals but lots of other zoos bigger or better. Its ok for what it is.
Extra precaution is being offered at every station there. They have hand sanitizer and ask that you use it before and after each station. Def recommend going here if your looking for fall fun! Masks are mandatory for all adults!
Great zoo. Did a good job to make everything covid safe and still be able to see the animals.
It was amazing! So much to see. I went to a weekend but would recommend going on a weekday. The food is amazing love it
Fun place to go with the Family. They are doing a great job during these weird times. This is the first time we actually saw all the animals. They have been hiding beers and hot dogs through out their exhibit so they would stay and hang out.
Wonderful excursion for the whole family and a great excuse to get out of the house.
I love this place! I went there with a few friends and they put everyone on one path to make social distancing easier. We were able to see most of the animals but did have to wait in line at several places to accommodate social distancing. Ive been here before but didnt quite make it to everything. This time I was able to do it all (except for what they had closed) from 1:30 when we got there till 6pm when they closed. Always so much fun. Probably better for older children who dont mind waiting in line right now.
The Seattle Woodland Zoo has a big variety of animals/birds/reptiles. You can visit it in about 2 hrs. Id suggest that if youre from Seattle, to go during summer time, this time the outside temperature is nicer and youll actually enjoy walking. The animals are well taken care of, there may be situations when some of the animals wont be available to see, depending on the time youre there.A good experience, good for everyone, all ages.
Even with several exhibits closed, we had a great time. Saw several animals
The zoo is amazing! During these times, it is a majestic way to spend time with the kids, family and friends, or even alone, the Zoo is a place where you can escape into a world of exhibits and animals from kingdoms all over the world. They are all in one fantastic place and the Woodland Park Zoo has taken every precaution to keep you safe so you can relax and take it all in. They have recreational activities and games, picnic areas, live shows featuring animals, concessions and food and SO MUCH MORE! Have fun!
Staff were wonderful and accommodating, people were masked up (with signs advocating masks on at all times, A+), and the animals were out and about. A lovely visit that I will cherish for a lifetime.
Really fun experience for the whole family. Clean, safe, and informative zoo with extensively knowledgeable staff and great animal viewing opportunities. They also have plenty of interactive exhibits and regular events. Its roughly $20 per person plus parking.
Beautiful Zoo, some indoor attractions are closed at the moment (COVID-19), we paid the full price, i mean yes hard time for all at the moment, but if you have not 100% access to all areas, a reduced entree price would be great.
It was pretty good, Id give it a full 5 stars when all the attractions re-open due to the pandemic, but still overall a good time.
One word, AMAZING! Its a beautiful Zoo with a lot of animals, fish and insects. You can easly spend at least 5 hours roaming around and admiring the views around( I know i did). The animals have a lot of space to move around and they have everything they need. Sometimes this can be a little problem because you cant see them, so you need to wait for them to walk around. Anyway, it remains one of the most beautiful zoos out there!
Woodland Park Zoo is a great escape within the city. It is fun and educational. I appreciate the steps theyre taking to keep the zoo accessible while keeping visitor safety in mind.
One of the best Zoos in the world. In my personal opinion best ever
Great zoo! Most of the habitats are well thought out to give the animals a realistic space to live. Make sure to catch the keeper talks. Especially the raptors as it gives you a chance to see the animals up close. There are volenteers stationed and they are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the animals. The butterfly garden is peaceful and beautiful. With four different exits/entries you dont have to worry about having to make walk all the way back to the beginning of the park.
Its always a good day when we go to the zoo...might not see all the animals, but enough that its good..plus now I want to go to the zoo lights..they were incredible even not lit up!
This was used with the City Pass. We loved the Zoo! This zoo has an easy to navigate layout. I love the giant trees hanging over many of the paths. The animals were very active today, despite the rain. We enjoyed the feeding the birds with the seed stick purchase. The Grizzly bears were fascinating. Just to witness their power while trying to get a back rub from the tree was so cool. Ive seen a lot of zoos and we were impressed. Gorillas were napping during our visit out of the rain. I dont blame them. Butterfly area, kids play areas and the farm area are all well done. They have good coffee here as well. This is a must do for any animal lover. Parking was $7-8 .
Unfortunately it was raining, chilly and very few animals were out. The hippo was amazing and came over several times for a photo op! Loved the wolves and gazelles. Our opportunity to see the grizzly was ruined when the monitor stopped us from entering the exhibit. There were only 4 people at that time in the exhibit. We saw more water and ducks than anything else.
I came to the zoo while visiting my sister and brother-in-law. We had a fantastic visit. Because of the virus they had lots of precautions to help keep everyone safe. Mask wearing is a must and hand sanitizer was everywhere. Also they had a marked route for everyone to follow. Indoor sections are still closed but we saw every other exhibit that was available. The animals are well taken care of and staff was super friendly!
Awesome wildlife park and one of my favorite places in Seattle. We visit this zoo multiple times a year and my daughter enjoys her every moment.Great place for kids to learn about animals and have fun at the same time. Clean, well organized and the staff is very friendly. Plan on spending min 3-5 hours here. There is a zoo cafe with some food options. If you can, provide support to the zoo and help conserving the natural world :)
Honestly the zoo shouldnt be open at this time. 70% of the exhibits were closed and way too many restrictions to enjoy whats left. I recommend saving your money and finding something else to do until they can open without the restrictions and all animals on display, otherwise youre just paying for a walk in the zoo with a mask on in the heat.
Good social distanct measures set up, but there are a few two way paths that would be MUCH improved by a simple rope or even a line on the ground to make a left and right lane. Signs said Keep to the right please! But few listened.I saw many employees stationed around who were ready to direct people and answer questions, masks handed out at the front gate. I would REALLY like one way entrances and exits. We had to stand aside pressed up against a wall for about 5 minutes because there was a traffic jam of people entering and exiting brushing shoulders with no distancing. All in all theyre doing what they can and I felt safe here.
This zoo is spacious in terms of the layout and walkways. However most of the enclosures for animals seemed too small and not well-kept with overgrown forestry. The actual viewing areas are small-medium sized so with the new covid rules you will have to wait for others to pass before you can see anything to abide the 6 feet. The animals today were all in hiding so it was disappointing to walk from one exhibit to another. Also one of the restrooms were closed and the next one was pretty far away.
You can get here from downtown by bus. Its super easy and convenient to get to. I went there for a company picnic. The zoo was really nice. Most of the walkways have plenty of shade. Food prices are a little high as well as the gift shop. I would definitely bring a reusable water bottle as they have fill up stations all over the park (and its free to fill). Will definitely go again.
Even with Covid the zoo was a wonderful experience. Some people still didnt understand staying 6ft apart but that should be expected. Zoo staff was very good at making sure masks were being worn properly. Everything seemed clean and safe.
Great variety of exhibits. I loved how the landscaping and nature trails between exhibits aligned with the style of the exhibits (rainforest, temperate forest, etc). It made traveling between exhibits a pleasant experience.Between times tickets and one-way pathing, it made for a smooth visit with hardly any crowding.
Great zoo! However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, you are not able to see many of the animals closeup. I would still recommend the zoo. I felt like I was walking through a rain forest!
It feels like youre walking through a forest when walking between exhibits. Loved that the enclosures were made to look more like their natural habitat and not just a cage for the animals. Love the different areas and there is a part where you can rest and have a picnic under a canopy of trees.
Amazing experience 10/10 so much fun
Amazing place for both kids and adults. I’ve visited a dozen Zoos, but Woodland Park Zoo for sure takes the first rank. The number and variety of animals was great. The design of cages also was fantastic. However, other amenities such as bathrooms caught my attention by being filthy.
Went during re-opening during pandemic so will update review later when no longer relevant. They were super good setting up the zoo for social distancing! Its streamlined going in one direction to encourage the flow of traffic. Everyone is required to wear a mask and the staff were super kind.Hand sanitizing stations throughout and easily accessible and theyre being actively cleaned. The exhibits that are within buildings are closed but this zoo has most animals outside anywaysI do recommend making a reservation for an AM slot if possible
