After the pandemic caused us to cancel our original wedding plans, we decided to elope with our parents and siblings in Savannah. My husband had proposed in Columbia square two years ago. We had done a tour of Davenport house after the proposal (it was a great tour and we highly recommend) and one of the staff members had suggested that we get married there. So, two years later, we took them up on that suggestion and booked the Davenport for a small garden wedding!I can’t say enough good things about Sheena and Jeff that helped us plan this last minute wedding! They were so accommodating and helpful with everything from seating to restaurant recommendations! Sheena performed our Ceremony and she was amazing! We told Sheena what we were looking for in regards to our ceremony and she wrote us a custom script that was BEAUTIFUL! (I’ve watched the video probably 35 times!)The Davenport house is the perfect place for a romantic, small wedding! They are so accommodating and there are so many options at an AMAZING price to make your day feel special and unique! (Which is rare for short notice/elopement places). I think I was the most relaxed bride in history because of Sheena and Jeff! I can’t say enough good things!
Oh wow, this was worth the wait! A nice fluffy biscuit, topped with a crispy chicken breast, egg and topped with a spicy white gravy. This was an awesome dish.
I absolutely loved learning about the history of the house and everything else! The tour guide was super knowledgeable and encouraged questions, which is always great.Anything to do with the HSF is worth knowing about and supporting!
Quick and informative tour about a very interesting family in early Savannah. Amazingly well-maintained architecture with a detailed staff to answer any questions.
What an amazing experience! Our guide was so knowledgeable and this was one of my favorite things to do while on our vacation. I definitely recommend getting the Pioneers pass that allows you into 3 historic museums.
Excellent young teenage tour guy who made the tour for us! He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable!!! House is beautiful and unexpected details through out that other places do not have...the history is very interesting!! Highly recommend it!
Great tour. Hearing the story of this historical house was fascinating. It still has all the orginal wood work.
Nice place with huge rooms. Tuns of history and lots of art there. Good for the price.
Great house, great staff. Represents a middle class craftsmans place in history. Love this home.
Beautiful historical house and one of the best tours weve been on right on par with the fort jackson tour. We learned a lot and it was so much fun. Sweet and knowledgable staff. Highly reccomend coming for a tour.
Interesting tour of the first house saved by the Savannah Preservation Society. Good gift shop, too.
The Davenport house was such a beautiful museum! I loved the information at the start of the tour about the revival of the house and the historic district. The tour guide was engaging and knowledgeable about the family, the house, and the era. So much of the house is preserved and restored, it really helps to get a feel for how it looked when the Davenports lived there.
Very cool old building with a cool story. Worth the price of admission.
Nice tours guides and pretty informative for the house, area, and history. We used a third party to get tickets and got a great deal so for the price it was well worth it.
So much history and so well told, this is a must see.
As a history enthusiast, I truly enjoyed the tour and the skilled tour guide, Becca. This house was built by Mr. Davenport, himself, and I am glad the preservation league, fought to save it. My one downside: the tour moved a little to quickly to really absorb the history that surrounds you. Outside of that, 2 Thumbs Up!
A very nice house, the young lady who gave us the tour did a good job but bless her she was a bit nervous.
The history behind this home is amazing. The staff are fantastic!
Nice tour, reasonable pricing and educational.
Great interactive candlelight holiday tour with many wonderful student volunteers. Got a real sense of the way people lived back then and their traditions. Good gift shop and facilities, wonderful small garden. They provided refreshments and the neighborhood cat was neat. Looks like they have other themed tours throughout the year.
Visited here tonight with our Girl Scouts from FL. We really enjoyed the Holiday Candle light tour. We were able to enjoy some light refreshments ( hot cider, yum). A light performance from characters throughout the tour while being directed to each room. I dont know what the year round tour is like but surely a great experience as well. If youre in the Savannah, GA area or a Girl Scout leader, please put this on your destination list.
Great way to learn the history of this great city.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. The tour starts and ends outside for a full picture of what things looked like 200 years ago.
Great experience! Tour was about an hour long. Nice little gift shop. Prepaid for admission using Groupon. May be worth the 3-for-1 package they have that includes the Telfair sites. We were the first tour of the morning. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth the visit!
If you are any bit of a history buff like I am, then you will love this adorable, well built homes of our nations history. My only warning is that you dont individual tickets to these houses, but instead you buy tickets from the boat museum that cover multiple houses for a reduced/discounted price. But enjoy the walk to each one and really take in all Savannah has to offer. So beautiful and romantic and it has been heavily revamped for modern days but the city has also taken to maintaining the beauty and integrity of their historical buildings
Great look at a 200 year old home
If you love touring old homes you will love this tour. Admission is average but look on groupon for discount tickets. In order to view the home you will have to climb curved stairs that are narrow. You enter at ground level through gift shop go up first level which is the main floor to view those rooms sensitives only office active. The next floor is the bedrooms learned where the saying sleep tight can from in the boys room. Looking forward to visiting again t.in the future when they have the kitchen reinstalled.
Old house of a carpenter Mr. Davenport. There is a guided tour of the house, and visitors can learn the family, history and all the related information. I was concerned that kids could get bored but they enjoyed a lot thanks to the guide who was nice and entertaining, asking kids to find the same objects as shown on photos handed before the tour. Its recommended if you have a chance to visit Savannah.
Really cool place,beautiful architecture!
Great place to go for some history about the area
Sherri was a terrific tour guide! The house is beautiful and very interesting. We recommend a visit.
Nice home to visit. Enjoyed the tour and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. Was really interesting to step back into time and envision life in the home in 1800’s.
Excellent tour and tour guide. I would have given it 5 stars but we were not able to watch the video that is supposed to come with the tour. While waiting for the 1 pm showing, we were basically told that there was a large group coming in, which apparently took precedence over us. As a result, they would not be showing the video to us. This was disappointing and insulting. We had already taken the tour and did not get to see it before the tour. We were left with the choice of not seeing it or waiting around for an hour or more. We chose to leave.
This museum was interesting and informative. The staircase has no inner support! It’s all the outside walls! I found this place interesting!
Very interesting. Worth the tour. Look for coupons on Groupon
Very beautiful
Great tour of a beautiful federalist style home saved from demolition in the 50s
Excellent tour. Our tour guide, Carolina, is fabulous! She knows everything about the history of the Davenport House & is also very friendly & pleasant. The young lady checking us in for the tour is also very kind. It was a wonderful afternoon.
Lovely home that has been nicely preserved. We were fortunate enough to enjoy the tour by volunteer students. The garden was very nice, glad to have visited.
Being in the construction industry for forty plus years, I found it to be structurally amazing! I found the interior trim to be very nice and in great condition. The tour is short and the guide was very knowledgeable! I found it to be very fascinating, however I’m very interested in construction, structure and interior finishing.
This was an informative tour. It showed how the Davenport family lived in the 1800s.
Beautiful federal style home. Our tour lasted about 40 minutes and the tour guide was amazing in her patience with a million questions thrown at her, putting her behind schedule with the next group coming through. She was very knowledgeable and thorough. The house is beautiful with a lovely garden to enjoy, even in the smoldering humid Georgia heat. Nice little gift shop, clean bathrooms. Worth the time and money.
Great tour. Very informative.
Congratulations to the ladies of Savannah who had the foresight of saving this building and many more from the hands of developers and wreckers. Savannah would not be the charming city it is in today if they hadnt recognised the value of this beautiful city. A five star city for sure. Charming tree lined streets. A hop on hop off trolley tour a must.
I went to the Yellow Fever experience. I was pleasantly surprised. I was not expecting a tour through the house. A ll of the performances were done well and they players took their roles seriously. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to attending future events.
Unique take on a historic home tour in Savannah. Our guide, Ava, was great and gave us as much information as she had and was open to questions. She also included a lot about the lives of the 9 slaves in the home, which are often left out of home tours in my opinion. I just wish we knew more about the davenport family in general. Other than that, awesome tour and beautiful home.
Wonderful restoration of a historic Savannah home. Guided tour takes about 35-40 minutes and included lots of great information. 10% discount for seniors
Enjoyed a most interesting Davenport House tour lead by Marty! Great to learn about and support this Savannah treasure, which will celebrate it’s 200th anniversary this year.
Beautiful house and informative tour
The best historical house we went to on vacation! Super educational and fun to see.
Was really fun our tour guyed was sweet and nice. U would highly recomend
Enjoyed the tour. Great guide, lots of interesting information. Beautiful architecture.
This house is BEAUTIFUL! However, our tour was extremely rushed. We were told the tour would take approx. 40 minutes, but we were finished within 20 minutes. I would have loved to have a more thorough tour of this house. The garden was self-guided and it was beautiful.
Lovely home with lots of history. And its air conditioned!
Amazing how they have maintained and continue to get this house back to original architecture. Our tour guide Erica was great!
Another historic home that can only be described as beautiful and haunted...
Beautiful, well preserved place. Nice people, interesting story. Museum has a lovely store. Really enjoyed.
Good experience to see how a house was used in the past. Employees are very efficient and knowledgeable about the history of the house.
Nice history but to long in the mouth. Lots to see in Savannah and 1 hour + here is a bit long.
Loved visiting this place! The tour was informative and moved at a good places. We were able to ask questions and had time to look around. Definitely recommend!
Boring tour is like only 20 minutes nothing major exciting. Not for me but might be good for others.
Great place to see
Nice guided tour and a way to beat the heat! Appreciate that they have seating at the top of the stairs
Lovely home to visit. I learned so much. What a great tour. I hope you take it too!
One of the must do things to do when youre in Savannah
Although this may not have been the most beautiful home we visited in the historic district, the Preservation Society has done a marvelous job in authentically restoring this property to its original grandeur. It is still a work in progress. In 2005, Davenport House received the Preserve America Presidential Award for its accurate restoration and community support. This elegant Federal style building was built in 1820. It was owned by the famous builder and architect, Isaiah Davenport who used the rooms upstairs to showcase his talents for prospective clients. This area boasts of some fabulous architectural elements – overall symmetry, the fanlight over the front door, a horseshoe-shaped entry stairway with wrought iron ornamentation, etc. and contains many original pieces of furniture. One can clearly see that the marble mantels, elaborate ceiling moldings cast in plaster, and the window and door casements were of the highest caliber. The floating staircase is absolutely amazing. His “building skills” were very apparent here, and that was his aim.
I love this place, it is amazing and beautiful. The staff was also awesome. The history teacher was very nice, regrettably, I cannot recall his name.
This house is full of history!
History at its finest
The garden is so beautiful!!
You need to have interest in old houses and history to enjoy this, but it was worth the time the tour guide was very nice and I enjoyed seeing a bit of what life was like in the south
Beautiful historical house.
Loved the Tour!
The house is beautiful and they have done a really great job restoring it. Our tour guide was nice but got off topic a lot and wasnt loud enough.
The house is beautiful. We enjoyed the tour. The staircase is amazing.
Tour guide Susan did a great job despite many interuptions from someone who wasnt listening. She very politely kept us all on track.
Found a deal on Groupon and enjoyed the tour. I wouldnt recommend paying full price.
The tour guides are very knowledgeable but inside wasnt anything too spectacular. Walked in and got the last tickets to a show that started 5 minutes after walking in so we hit pretty good timing at around 245pm to 315pm
Awesome tour! It was neat to listen and learn the history of this home. Plus it’s air conditioned!!
Great tour of Davenport family house! Guides were very informative. They were in full costume for the era and acted-out small skits as we toured the mansion.
Was a neat historical place to visit and the guide was knowledgeable
Super cool old home! The tour guide does a good job of painting a picture of life in the home so long ago. The restoration of it is well done and the architecture is awesome! I do recommend this tour to anyone looking to immerse in the history of life in savannah!
The two young ladies that toured you through the home were well knowledged and hospitable! The house is lovely and ancient! Loved it!
Very creative and realistic re-enactments of historical events in Savannah.
This place, and the guide, helped us understand how Savannah became the beautiful destination it has become. The tour is fairly short but we recommend it.
A nice your included in our Holly Jolly Christmas Your with the Great Trolley Tour Company. We got to tour the public areas of the 1820 Federal Style home. Great architecture throughout the home.A great added surprise and delight was the hot apple cider and Bryds Peach Cooler cookies.
Very good tour. Our guide, a lady from New York, was very knowledgeable and patient w/ children.
Short but informative tour. They shared a lot of early 1800 life with us and tried to be authentic in the furnishings. One of the best tours we took in Savannah.
This museum house tells the story Isaiah Davenport, its builder, as the ladies who saved the house from demolition in the 1950s
Tour was too long! You do get to see the 1st and 2nd floor.
