**Bring $2.00 cash on weekday and $5.00 weekendPark is large & clean with a good amount of parking & tons and tons of grills and picnic tables throughout. There is an aviary with some beautiful birds. There are lots of places for camping and RVs. The water is clean and is very relaxing. Visited on a Wednesday and was pretty mellow. Definitely worth a stop. Not too far off the 126 so if youre in the area.

Beautiful park. I’ve always enjoyed every visit I’ve had to this place. There’s so much to do here and it’s a very clean place. You’ll be able to find a creek that always has plenty of water running through it. If you explore the park you’ll be able to find areas where there are wild peacocks. I’ve seen two snakes at this place one a king snake and the other a rattlesnake. This park also has a bird aviary which has different type of birds. Overall, this is a fun clean place to bring your family and hang out.

Beautiful, shady park with lots to do for kids and very relaxing for adults. We spent hours exploring the creek and making friends with the birds at the aviary and the wandering peacock who would come by and give us a show. The camp host, Jared, was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating, especially as we had a group of almost fifty! We had a fantastic time, cant wait to go back.

Fee to enter: $5 on weekend, $2 weekday per vehicle. They put those dollars to work, its clean, trash is picked up and love seeing the aviary. Hike down to the river, find a good spot and get in!! Its fun place to visit. Campers have showers and restrooms available, worth a visit. Many large trees survived the fires so its nicely shared from sun on hot days.

Great place to spend the day. Creek is well groomed to have various shallow pools for kids to play, close enough to civilization for convenience, yet far enough for relaxation.

Overall the camping experience was good. The small River that runs true it is pretty decent. A few spots have been dammed up over time by people visiting creating small pools where you can sit and enjoy the cool water. The bathrooms are actually very clean probably the cleanest Ive ever seen at these type of state parks. The camping areas are not bad, decent size. The only downside we had was the amount of fleas in the area. The first couple hours we were bit pretty consistently but the mosquito repellent we had helped. overall I would recommend this place but just come prepared with good repellent and if you do bring your dog make sure they are on good flea medication.

I live in Santa Paula. This place is only a few miles from my home. I enjoy coming here with the kids to get away. Its close enough yet far enough. The site shown here is number 29 I really enjoy this site due to the large trees that give you shade pretty much all day. There is water close by and a porta potty about 50 yards away. There are also full hookup sites 12 in total that are up the road. The creek is nearby and has running water and is nice too take the kids to. This is the county park that is on the west side of the creek. KOA camping is on the other side of the creek. They are two different camping spots.

Steckel park has a bird sanctuary with a beautiful variety. Its included in the daily park use fee which is 2$ per car on weekdays and 5$ on weekends and holidays. They have a park with play structure with day use picnic tables and grills close by. Lots of mature trees are in the area. Very nice all year round. It can be triple digits in the summer months though. The Santa Paula creek is flowing very nice. Its a great creek to climb through and wade in. The camping areas look big with lots of shade. Watch out that some spots are right on the road with only sparse bushes separating it fro the sites. The rv spots are paved with power and electricity but some are close together. I havent camped here before but look forward to coming back in the fall or next spring.

I had a little problem with the rangers about paying for 1 night, but I paid it and have record of it.i had to go to the DMV the next morning and I knew i wouldnt b back by 11. When i got back hadnt been hear 2 min. And a ranger was on me about the night before. I said I paid it, his records said different. I couldnt log into the account without purchasing a spot, so he made me pay twice but after he left I was checking my tent for spiders and found a ticket wrapped around a tent post and tied with a rubberband. So the way it was attached, I or annyone would not have found it until they broke down thier tent. The ticket said that if I didnt pay for the night that I paid twice for, by 8:00 am I would be banned from the park for life. The thing that gets me is woildnt you put the ticket where someone would find it. Maybe the table, but it was practically invisible. Not cool at all. I think some messed up power tripping ranger is in the wrong line of work. Other the the threatening extortion note I like it. I almost forgot, the showers are cold you cant turn them up. That sucks.

Just came from the park. My girls had fun in the water. But once we got home, we noticed some dark spots on their skin. Legs. Had to scrub deep to get them spots off their skin. Not sure what it is but never seen that happen in other rivers. Does anybody know what is the reason?

Love the park itself, pretty clean except be prepared to bring your own soap to the bathroom because none is provided for you.... not even a dispenser for soap just rinse with water and call it good right?... gross, and the bathroom mirror looks like the camp host purposefully took a brillo pad to the reflective surface, but there is alot of great history here and some very nicely kept public areas plus a water hole!

We stayed in the RV section of the park. Full hook-up, clean and well-maintained sites and lit power post. We stayed during the July 4th weekend, which probably accounts for the loud thumping music and tipsy campers reveling a little too long into the night on Saturday. But aside from that, wouldnt hesitate to stay here again. Didnt use the public restroom and showers, so cannot comment on that.
