We visited 8/3/19 in late afternoon and it was very quiet. Beautiful art and sculptures. Lovely courtyard and gardens. Very interesting display on the history of Lake Mead which we found very informative and thought provoking. As we left patrons were arriving for a chamber music event. Highly recommend this museum.
Beautiful Venue For A Art Museum The Staff Was Very Cordial And Informative.
The beautiful 100-year-old building is worth the price of admission. Do not skip the auditorium or the beautiful frescoes in the courtyard. The high quality exhibitions are enhanced by the museums dedication to New Mexican artists and to fostering new work. In the endless array of Santa Fe venues in which to view artwork, the NM Museum of Art is sure to stand out.
Being right off the plaza, makes this must see museum an easy to get to museum! We were there just as an amazing Agnes Pelton exhibit was winding down (on its way to the Whitney NY peeps). The murals in the atria are so beautiful. Take your time and enjoy. Lots of good stuff to see here.
This is a jewel of a building (Pueblo revival perfection) with collections that are world class. We just saw an exhibit of Renaissance masters on loan from the British Museum. What other town the size of Santa Fe could attract such an exhibition?
Wonderful experience. The main exhibit was fascinating and varied with tables here and there with art projects for children or adults.nicely displayed. I plan on bringing my grandchildren.
Small intimate museum housed in a beautiful old Adobe that focuses on NM artists. They have a GREAT gift shop of beautiful and affordable items.
Its always fun to go to museums and other places and see their collections. This one is no exception. It is a must stop and see place. I hope you enjoy it.
Quiet most of the day, and a great way to enjoy getting lost in some art.
This museum has some exhibitions on loan from the UK from the Renaissance period. It was beautiful!
Great variety! We especially liked the Agnes Pelton exhibition. Nice location and buildings.
Nice mix of sculptures and paintings. Relaxing place to visit. Nice courtyard in the center of the first floor. Fun section of new selections on the second floor.
Current exhibition re Penitents worth seeing ... but I came a lo g way (Canada) and I was disappointed that NO works by reknown Taos or Santa Fe artists were on display the day I visited.
I learned a lot had fun I will go back
Cool building with lots of great history about the creation of the famous art community in Santa Fe. The guided tour with Lee was great.
I had an amazing time here. I will be back as soon as I can make the trip from Albuquerque again!
Great museum with a bunch of wonderfully art and even some art related projects for the kids.
Outstanding museum of various collections which do rotate. This museum has some beautiful pieces which and exhibits and all can be viewed in sixty to ninety minutes.
The art was all a few centuries old and not what I was expecting. Much of the art surrounded the crucifixion of Christ and was not something I would have gone to see by myself.
Very nice place to go the only reason why I didnt give it 5 stars is because I accidentally took a picture and my flash went off and the volunteer in that section yelled at me! I understand he was doing his job and Im fine with that I apologized. but he didnt stop there he yelled a second time for me to shut off my flash and I wasnt even trying to take a second picture. Then proceed to follow me, as me and my husband continue to browse his little area. Jeez! Lol. On sure he has to tell many people about there flash. Overall a great experience I will visit again
We joined a docent tour which was informative and insightful. The art is wonderful, but you will also learn history . We donated at a certain level to a museum at home, part of an organization that waived our entrance fee. However, there are reduced fee museum packages for sale. Wonderful gift shop. The native American Indian market is right across the street. We also enjoyed the history museum and Georgia OKeefe Museum. Great visit.
Beautifully curated museum. Museum shop is wonderful, too! Lovely staff of volunteers.
One of the best ones in town. Cheaper if you do the 30$ culture pass which includes lots of other museums too. Great architecture
Nice museum in a historic building. NM residents get a significant discount, but it was pretty expensive for an out-of-stater ($12/pp). Id say the museum building itself was probably the most impressive part of the museum. Theres just not a lot in here. I did catch some musicians rehearsing for a show that night, which was super unique--check out their events calendar and you may be able to pop in to rehearsal the day of. With all the galleries in Santa Fe, this museum does not really stand out.
Experience the art of the Southwest and beyond in the picturesque icon of Spanish Pueblo Revival architecture at the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe.The museum is an essential stop for anyone who wishes to appreciate not only the graceful simplicity of pueblo architecture, inspired by 300-year-old mission churches, but also the unique artistic nature of New Mexico, all presented in changing exhibitions showcasing art across time, cultures, and media. For nearly 100 years, the New Mexico Museum of Art has continued to encourage artists working in New Mexico, while also enlightening and entertaining visitors with local, state, regional, national, and international exhibitions.
So much history you can feel vibes of the past its amazingly beautiful to see how weve taken care of everything in santa fe
It was all right, a little on the pricey side for the size of collection exhibited. Seemed currently very photography-heavy, if thats your thing.
Very cool art museum that you can check out on your own, or as a guided group. The guided tours leave the lobby on a regular basis. We did the self guided tour which worked out perfectly. When there you definitely need to check out the courtyard garden.
Not as impressive as a major art museum. Mostly local historic artists of NM. Okay but entry fee to me was a donation to the arts. Building is beautiful though.
Nice museum with a decent collection in a beautiful building. Unfortunately folks at the front desk hassled us over a minor detail concerning our passes which left a negative impression, especially compared to the terrific experiences we had with staff at the other wonderful Santa Fe museums.
Great museum. Really enjoyed all of the displays and written explanations of everything. NM residents with a valid library card can go to their local library and check out a NM Museun family pass, good for up to 6 adults! Great NM benefit!
They were closed when we were in Santa Fe,, but looked excellent through the windows,, next time,,,
Smaller than we anticipated. Well laid out with great documentation. We had a docent tour, but it was unnecessary, as the information was almost all available on the wall. I liked that there were seats around and that it was child friendly.
Fun.... easy to view. A great little Oasis Ive art and culture.
Its a small museum and sadly was not to my taste. I didnt connect with the art in the way I thought I would. (I prefered Institute of Native America Art) I just wish the collection was a bit more expansive.I do feel my review here is a bit subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt since art is a personal thing.
I love the variety of historic and regional art presented here. The layout really leads you along and the courtyard welcomes you and allows you a welcome palate cleanse from the downtown shops!
Beautiful building, beautiful artwork that really is the essence of New Mexico, on the Plaza with so much wonderful stuff to see.
Loved it! Staff were very nice and professional
This museum has the definitive collection of the Santa Fe style art scene...all the local greats...paintings and sculptures.. Plus a lovely John Gaw Meet designed building ...right down town...
Great museum. Has a nice classic collection of artifacts. Nice modern paintings. On the outside they actually have a garden of things the Pueblos would use for clothing and they have art on a garden entrance close to the museum. Tje restaurants food smelled delicious
Beautiful museum. I enjoyed the art that was good and I enjoyed making fun of the art that was bad. The museum associates were courteous and friendly. I had a good experience here and I recommend it.
Really really really good museum - strongly recommended for all. Good local art collections, good exhibits, knowledgeable staff, historic and beautiful building ... must visit !!!
It is absolutely beautiful, just the architecture is amazing with the Navajo decoration. They have a huge space for the current exhibition. The Taos group. Los Cinco Artistas and probably another group of great artists.
Beautiful museum with a lovely outdoor area. We liked the gift shop too, great service.
Needs more classic Western Art
A nice small museum. Good of like new Mexico style art.
Local artists, interesting subjects. The ceiling was beautiful. The Chapel was nice.
Considering how Santa Fe is an international art mecca the New Mexico Museum of Art isnt grand and doesnt have a vast collection. This museum however is quite nice and has several pieces which showcases New Mexican art. Worth a visit.
Enjoyed wandering through the exhibits in lovely 100 year-old building.
This is a great place to go visit there employees are really nice people.
A beautiful and amazing collection of fine arts.
Worth going to visit if you are in Santa Fe. A lot of beautiful exhibits inside.
Not a large museum but very unusual art work. Enjoy our visit. Like the history museum better.
Wonderful.
Gorgeous old building and courtyard with a ton of history, but the permanent collection was not as impressive as the major art museums in Texas.
So great! Everyone is helpful and kind. The art is amazing, and the rotating exhibits are so fun!!
On the smaller side but a wonderful collection of photography, paintings, and modern multimedia displays.
Good place to visit.
Fabulous museum!
Incredible collection!
I come here at least twice a year to see all the new galleries.
The arts are one of the highlights of Santa Fe and this museum does a amazing job of showcasing New Mexico culture. You shouldnt visit the plaza without a trip to the museum.
The additional exhibitions.
Wonderful venue
Maintained beautifully.
New Mexican art museum nice gift shop and pretty court yard and building
The only real draw back is that the collection is so small and not very diverse. If you have a short amount of time it is worth the visit especially the sculptures.
Amazing.
Wonderful museum with clean setup and follow. Also a blue star museum.
Great exhibits of Taos and Santa Fe artists old and new
This is a pretty cool art museum, very southwestern, and the painting reflects that.
Building architecture is a exceptional as the artwork
Small collection, not particularly engaging works or exhibits. For New Mexican art, the capitol building is a better bet
Enjoyed all the beautiful art.
Wonderful
Loved it
Historic, Beautiful Art
Loved this museum.
Very thorough and informative
Really great exhibits
Info was good
Wonderful
Great collection of New Mexican art!
Fantastic.
Incredible!
Nice museum but the guy follow you around like you are a criminal take away the experience...
