I love the passion, attention and fun atmosphere! The owners, Rod and Mark, have created a gem for community and I highly recommend it. The studio is becoming a must see venue by word of mouth for all who visit.

Santa Fe Clay has not paid my pottery instructor for her time. This is an insult to the art community here. Our local artists are one of the unique attributes to The City Different, and Santa Fe Clay demonstrated that they do not value their artists time or efforts. As a side note, my instructor is as talented a teacher as she is an artist. 5/5 stars for Bianka G.

Ive been going here as a customer for many years and always loved the gallery space and retail area. I recently moved to Santa Fe and signed up for a class. The teacher is wonderful and inspiring. The new owner, however is not. He has many rules which are extreme and not written. His style of communication is to yell and berate for something as ridiculous as walking in to the store part if youre headed to the classroom, especially if carrying a small box. Hes abrupt, abrasive, and very controlling. Luckily I was given a refund. His behavior has been a huge disappointment for me after enjoying this beautiful place for many years. Ill drive to Albuquerque gladly for supplies. Update: Rods reply is just about what I expected. Yes he did yell at me right after I entered the retail area while carrying a small clay box, saying get out of here. I was in total shock. He had come into the class the week before talking about someone coming in the wrong door earlier. That I assumed was me when I had found the entrance locked. So I opened a door just to the west West and quickly exited. I mistakenly thought that door was what he meant. So no, he did not tell me repeatedly not to enter the main area with a small box. This man is a belligerent bully. I have my own studio and will have my own kiln hooked up in a week. I do not recommend taking classes here.

I had just gotten my first new kiln. I have to test fire it. I’ve never done this before. I called Santa Fe Clay to ask if they have what I needed & was told they do & that I should just park out front because I was picking this stuff up. I arrive & park & was asked by the woman if I was going in the store in a negative way. I said I had called earlier & was told by you to park here. She then told me how to park better in the spot for others. Then when I go in I felt condescension through the whole transaction bc I wasn’t exactly sure what I needed. The attitude continued to the point that she said “atta girl” to me after I began defending myself. I was confused-and instead of being walked through kindly it was a very negative experience. This is not the first time for condescension at Santa Fe Clay which is why I’m writing this review.

I visited Santa Fe Clay on September 13, 2017 before noon. I was impressed with the studio aspect of the building and I thought Id inquire about class availability. Before I approached the woman behind the counter I heard her making fun of someone who had called with a question about the size of the clay bags that were sold at the store. She was less than helpful and very rude after the call. When I did ask about classes I was handed a sheet that had the class schedule and costs. I was excited. I have been taking classes in Austin, Tx at the Contemporary Art School. Things went downhill from there. The woman started explaining the firing cost. At Austin its a community firing done by an instructor and the cost is included in the class cost As she tried to explain the firing cost I could tell she had lost interest and wanted me to leave. I had interrupted a gossip conversation she was having with an older woman. Somehow the counter woman assumed I was asking how much it would cost to fire a single piece, as in a small bowl, the rest of the kiln empty. She said they would never fire one piece in the kiln as that would be too expensive and not practical. I was dumbfounded on how she arrived at that conclusion. Ive been doing ceramics since the mid70s and I know how it works. I was thinking of visiting Santa Fe and taking a class but that will never happen now. I know the studio is run differently and instructors are excellent. But, why would you have the face of your business be so negative to the general public. This counter woman seemed to take joy in belittling me and the person on the phone. I left Santa Fe Clay very angry and frustrated.

Changed from my 5-star review because they have moved to an inconvenient location for me and the staff I commended no longer work there. I now have no information to provide on the new location but could not figure out how to completely remove my review.
