These people put on a fantastic series of performances every year. The outdoor amphitheatre that they custom built for performing plays is really special and add to the ambience. Our group has been going for fifteen years, and look forward to next year already! You can bring in your own picnic food and wine and make it a party! If you have never been, I highly recommend that you go!
Fabulous and high quality productions. Great sets and costumes. Set in a peaceful forest amphitheater. Shakespeare would be so tickled. Could not recommend more. Get your tickets ASAP! Loved my experience ️
Beautiful Theater. Saw a wonderful production here. Food and concessions arent the greatest though. Food and supplies tend to run low. When I bought a hot chocolate at intermission they didnt even have the whipped cream that is offered on the menu. So, if you want to have a picnic in your seats or before the show order ahead of time or bring your own food.
The ever-fresh staging of Shakespeares plays is a hallmark of a still-thriving civilization, and SCS puts on lively and creative productions. This years were a bit on the silly side for me, but I still enjoy the whole outdoor scene and the endeavor.
More than 20 years of enjoying SSC, and tonights production of Comedy of Errors was one of the most fun I have seen. Always a great night out - keep it up!
This repertory theater company just wows me every year! Romeo & Juliet was just outstanding! I actually teared up at the end! So beautifully performed!Had picnic in the eucalyptus grove with about a 110° view of the ocean and east side Santa Cruz. Food available for purchase is fresh, healthy, yummy and locally provided. Wine for purchase is good, expected better. Merchandise always good quality. Comfy seating. Room to move.
By far one of the best theatres Ive been to throughout Northern California, and I work in Arts & Entertainment. Do yourself a favor and buy tickets to Santa Cruz Shakespeare.
Friendly, pleasant venue for outdoor theater in the trees. Easy peasy...bring a picnic & a bottle of wine or concessions on site. Equity actors!...support live theater!
Great acting. Good sets. Wonderful Santa Cruz experience
4th time visiting. Loved each performance!!! Highly recommended!
It is outdoors, relaxed atmosphere, and great entertainment. Wish there was something like this in Arizona!
Been seeing Shakespeare in Santa Cruz for many years! Really great actors and performances. I miss the redwood Glen but the new location is nice too. dont miss it if you like Shakespeare.
Great performance, good reserved seats for outdoors. Saw Loves Labours Lost. Bring blankets and jackets for night performances. Can bring you own food and wine. Sweet.
Stunning performance of Pride and Prejudice! Quality set, props, costume, and acting. Tons of fun!
Consistently the best Shakespeare productions I have ever seen, in an intimate and lively setting.
Lovely view, venue and picnic area. Top notch, professional actors, beautifully designed and executed shows. Definitely worth a trip over-the-hill and getting there early to enjoy the park set in and around a golf course and eucalyptus grove. Kudos to the City of Santa Cruz for stepping in to help this worthy company find a new home... shame on UCSC. What a stupid move to lose this venerable, internationally recognized, theatre company where your students could work with the pros.
My first visit to Shakespeare Santa Cruz! Really great evening!
There were several stand out performers, and enjoyed being able to picnic, and park easily. Didnt like the dirt floor, horrible and often inaudible acoustics, or poorly staggered stadium seating that prevented visibility of the show. At $60 a ticket, Im disappointed.
Excellent performances year after year. The outdoor location is lovely, dont miss the opportunity to have a picnic before the show! Buy a Groundling ticket and your picnic is at the foot of the stage.
Great new venue! Picnic area has a spectacular view btw. Parking is much more convenient than the old location. Plays are wonderful as always. A true repertory company and in 2017 theyll be going back to 3 summer productions plus a fringe production by the interns. Summer in Santa Cruz would not be complete without Santa Cruz Shakespeare!
We love it! This became a tradition for many, many years. New seats with shelf makes picnic so much easier.
So much fun! Shakespeare out under the stars
39 Steps is a hoot. Well done. And I saw the preview. Cant imagine how much better they can make it, but I will be checking it out on July 22. Yes! It was THAT good - good enough to see it twice. Go see it, people!
Wonderful venue always great theatre
Shakespeare is a cornerstone of Western Civilization, and the Santa Cruz Shakespeare company is intimate but spectacular in its passionate renditions of the classic repertoire in a gorgeous and comfortable outdoor setting for reasonable prices at an easy-to-reach location... What more can you ask for?
I did not enjoy the modern 1980s take on this play.
Great performance in a lovely space!
Excellent production of Loves Labors Lost. The outdoor venue is a delight, with comfy chairs or groundling areas. Treat yourself to great theater!
Da best boyz
Great productions! Wonderful stage set in a eucalyptus grove. Perfect for a night out, BYOB. I make it a point o go every summer.
I have come to see shows here since I was a little kid. This summer I have seen Loves Labours Lost and had a great time watching a funny show!
Shakespeare SC is home to fabulous professional theater. Both the mainstage and the glen are good venues. Being able to take a picnic basket and a lawn chair to an afternoon show in the Redwood glen makes for a great experience. You will never lose if you get to attend all the shows for the summer season.
Love, love, love Santa Cruz Shakespeare under the stars. Bring your picnic and blanket and enjoy great theater in Santa Cruz.
Really good performance and really nice people, enjoyed it despite not being an avid Shakespeare enthusiast
Always a fantastic show with a fantastic cast. BYO food, drink, wine, and beer for a great experience!
Very nice outdoor setting! A lovely experience.
The outdoor theater was beautifully set up for the Romeo and Juliet play.
Wonderful plays! They do Shakespeare right, in true repertory. I really like their innovative casting - the woman who played Hamlet (yes, you read that right!) was the best Ive seen. Last year the did Macbeth, and Banquo was a woman and Macduff was Black. That made it so much less confusing than with a bunch of Middle aged white men in similar clothes! The new location is great. Its hard to believe how quickly they pulled it together. Seating is more comfortable than it was up at UCSC. Theres less grounding seating though. Sight lines are great from everywhere. Parking is a little odd and confusing, but I know theyll work that out. Theyre doing such a great job, and Im proud to be a member!
Awesome atmosphere high above Santa Cruz. Great actors. Kids love it, too.
Measure for measure -, immensely engaging, modernized and true to its roots. An exceptional production in a great venue.
Great production. Well run great acting.
Awesome cast and crew
Very entertaining spoof on Pride and Prejudice!
Summer treat for those who live in our area. Two plays, one tragedy and one comedy.
Excellent production.
I have never been to a performance, but our Ham Radio Club radio shack shares the grounds and they are very gracious.
The new location for Santa Cruz Shakespeare was great--especially the fog that rolls in near the end. The plays were, as usual, put together wonderfully.
Bringing a touch of refined culture to Santa Cruz; the wife and I love to bring our picnic digs, some cheese, our own wine, and catch a show.
Always a top-notch professional production, often very innovative. Weve been going to Santa Cruz Shakespeare productions for over 20 years, and never regretted a single show
Amazing show, really well done. beautiful location
Always an enjoyable and great experience.
The City and residents should figure out a way to save this Santa Cruz institution... Shakespeare Santa Cruz brings artists and patrons from all over the world including luminaries like Patrick Stewart and many Bay Area Celebrities. Artistic excellence and a one-of-a-kind experience enjoying great theatre and the natural beauty of the campus glen. This is short-sited of UCSC to discontinue support for this Internationally recognized theatre company. They should somehow solve the fiscal problems and discover a way to keep this BAY AREA TREASURE alive... both Boards of Directors should be held accountable and elected officials should get involved. This company, as respected and important as to the Bay Area ACT, Berkeley Rep, TheatreWorks and San Jose Rep, must be supported just as the OR Shakespeare Festival in Ashland or San Diegos Old Globe Theatre are... Certainly the Santa Cruz area has the resources (dont all kinds of celebrities have homes on Monterey Bay?)... Shakespeare Santa Cruz should re-organize and raise whatever funds necessary to preserve this VITAL treasure.
Amazing actors, amazing venue.
Wonderful productions
Amazing, fabulous, wonderful go and see for yourself
Wonderfully delightful..
The gradation isnt as steep as before, so if a tall person sits in front of you, its hard to see all the action.
Absolution Fantastic Venue
Loved it
Awesome!
Actors are amazing
Great performance
I have been going to every play for 23 years
Beautiful setting,
New venue. Still needs more shade, so take a hat.
