What a great movie theater. Cozy, good films, and good food. Reasonable prices and good service. Very romantic.
Cute little theater with a good selection and good seating. They have student discounts but they are more than happy to let you pay full price so ask for the student discount if you are eligible. Other than that picture quality and sound were fine, and staff were kind.
A great little movie house with 4 theatres. Good pop corn & tasty baked goods. Excellent Indy & art house films are usually shown here. A beloved Santa Cruz movie theatre which makes this town all the more wonderful.
The Nick has been my favorite movie theater since I came to Santa Cruz in the 70s. Great popcorn, good snacks, good seats, and that small, comfy, art house theater feeling. Plus, they get all the interesting movies.
Cute theater with killer showings. Only thing that took me out of the experience was that there was some noise pollution from the hall. Nothing too bad tho (it probably stood out more bc it happened at a quiet scene in the movie)
A wonderful theater, such friendly people. Also: beer and wine are coming in 2020! Also: the popcorn is the best at any theater ever. Seriously.
About the only art house theatre left.Great movies you wont see at the Regals and Cineluxes. We saw The Biggest Little Farm, and Maiden there, The Imitation Game, Beginners and several dozen other GREAT films over the years.Parking no worse (or better) than anywhere else In downtown SC.Go to see films that are memorable, and are worth talking about!
Love this movie theater. Great pop corn, personable staff, cozy place.
Still one of the very best lineup of movies in the county! Been coming here for decades and the movies are fantastic and the ambience is smart and wholesome! I highly recommend the Nickelodeon theater for a really great evening of high quality movie going!
The young man with very short brown hair working behind the concession counter was so funny and kind he really made the experience so much fun, he asked if we would like any dessert or popcorn and told us how great the chocolate chip cookies were, that at the end of the day when there is only one left the employees all fight over the last. Really wonderful service, beautiful clean theater, I saw one of the best movies I have ever seen too, the Biggest little farm, I will definitely be going back to see what other independent films are playing Check it out yall they even use real butter on the organic amazing popcorn, so so good
Sweet movie theater, with thoughtfully chosen movies. Delicious organic popcorn with REAL butter and other local snacks! This location has been a favorite of mine for years!!!
Great indie run theater with super friendly staff. Food and drinks are enjoyable. Love the art films.
Love the personal announcement at the beginning of each movie. Especially since I was in the wrong theater, yet still made it to my movie, thanks to the announcement.
I love this theater! They always have interesting independent movies and documentaries. The place is always clean and the staff is friendly and pleasant. Plus tickets are relatively cheap!
Awesome little theatre for indie films. Great people there too!
Wow, a great theater experience. Love the independent movies and the neighborhood vibe of this smallish theater. I hope they continue with the retro decor and friendly staff. Its a different, and better experience compared to the large chain theaters, making the movie more memorable. Close enough to Pacific Ave to grab dinner at many restaurants after the show.
The sister theatre to the Del Mar, and a nice, cozy little place to catch a movie. The movie selection is awesome, and the popcorn is delicious.
It was better before Landmark owned it. Its still a good theatre, and shows indie films. It just doesnt have the great local food, local feel, and solicit customers for movie suggestions that it did when it was locally owned.
I love indie and foreign movies I think its great santa cruz has this! Comfortable seating, clean theater, friendly staff, reasonable prices.
Love the Nick, funky retro theater with mostly Indie flicks.
Santa Cruz landmark, shows those great indie movies the others dont.
Love this theater! Very cozy, quaint and filled with great staff who do their job efficiently. Great snacks and ticket prices. Parking is just across the street or right in front(if your lucky). This place only plays the current indie type movies. Its rare to find anything mainstream. Only con is the old style seating. I prefer the recliner seats.Ill put up with crappy seating for a great movie in this one of a kind theater thats the only one of its kind left in Santa cruz.
Its a great cinema place by Santa Cruz city. Special foreign films every week and great staff. I forgot my phone and they save it for me to pick it up right after when i went back to the Nick.
Came here last week to watch the Shape of Water and it was a great experience.Awesome staff and fair priced tickets. I came on a holiday so I didnt know my student discount didnt work but it was still well priced. Everything was clean and the movie was great. The movie wasnt playing too loud or too quiet which I have an issue with a lot. I have yet to have an issue with too quiet, but no one else seemed to have that problem which is good.Only reason Im not giving it 5 stars is because Im someone who likes to sit in the back of theaters and its such a small theater I had too look up too much to watch the movie. It wasnt too bad though and apparently every place in Santa Cruz is like that basically. I would come here again, but Id come early to make sure I got a seat in the far back where the angle isnt so bad.
Real butter on the popcorn! Announcement by staff in theater...so sweet
This place has been serving the community with quality cinema for years. Staff are friendly and lovely. I always check this place for showtimes first.
Always great movies and a friendly staff. Comfortable and clean theaters, too. Snackbar is solid, but more limited than larger theaters.
This theater shows the best movies in town. None of that big Hollywood stuff. if you want to see an awesome foreign film this is the place to go.
Great local spot to see a somewhat off movie.
Good venue for the latest indie films...a Santa Cruz landmark.
Mostly Indie and foreign films at a reasonable price. The snack bar is reasonable, too, unlike the major chains. Yes, the theater is dated, but its clean and where else can you see these kinds of films (the Del Mar, but thats the same owners)? Note: now owned by small chain, Landmark, but still acts like local theater.
Intimate, classic movie theater showing the best independent films. Delicious snack slectipn, offering tea, coffee, soda, burritos, brownies, classic candies and alternative options. It has 3 or 4 screens, only one room being distinctly smaller than the rest. Most reasonable ticket prices in town.
A Santa Cruz institution. We are so lucky to have these independent movie theaters, this and the Del Mar, both
Real butter on the popcorn! Great movies off the beaten path. Support local, independent businesses.
Shows great movies much more meaningful then the other theaters around town except for the Rio del Mar which also shows meaningful movies. Both of those theories actually have good food and dont go out you for the food
Looks a little bit shubby from outside, but it is very nice inside. Cozy, friendly, very warm. They play movies that already out in other theaters, so it is nice for people like me who something waiting for too long to see a movie :)
Pleasant and HELPFUL staff. Great tasting popcorn. Cozy feeling atmosphere. Shows only thoughtful movies all of the time. Some artsy movies also.
A cute little movie theater. The seats are comfortable and nicely space. The venue is clean and the sounds is good in the theater. The snack bar is small but has a good selection of food.
Movie theater with 4 screens, mostly small intimate theater spaces. Predominantly art house and foreign films. This is our favorite theater in town, consistently the most worthwhile and provocative movies. And non-GMO popcorn with real butter and gourmet chocolate!
Beautiful cinema with a great selection of independent films
This is a great theater mainly because it offers more than the heavily promoted prime time movies and much more of the eclectic, lesser known productions and foreign films. The ticket prices are average and the concession munchies are predictably priced.I use Fandango or Rotten Tomatoes to research what is showing and decide based on selections.Good, reasonably priced parking near by (free after 8:00pm) and plenty of restaurants and eye candy to choose from before the show.Enjoy!!
Great local theater showing fantastic independent movies. The buttered popcorn is a must with brewers yeast!
Love it. So glad we finally made it to a movie here. Great concessions -penny ice cream-yum! Movies you dont get to see at other theaters
Very nice theatre featuring independent and niche movies. The popcorn is delightful!
Love this theater. Bathrooms need new low-flow toilets though.
Comically tiny screening rooms, but they make up for it by showing the worlds best movies.
The Nick is iconic in Santa Cruz. It shows a choice of six films, generally independent. Its a real fan favorite among the locals, along with its sister theater, the Del Mar, a few blocks away. These two theaters are the ones I frequent most often.
Always love the Nick. Its like an old friend
A great selection of indie films weekly! Love seeing what they have each week. Perfect for an evening in downtown Santa Cruz, dinner & a movie
The Nick has always been a great movie house and always will be! Its looking better than ever too.
Fun place to watch a movie on a rainy night. Always fun to go there.
A great local institution showing films that are never shown in main stream theatres.
Really cute little theatre. Great popcorn. Shows movies not showing in a lot of other theatres. Pretty good prices. Make sure to get there early because the theatres are tiny
It was nice when I went because it wasnt too crowded. Seats are reasonably comfortable. I could see how it would be easy to have your view of the screen blocked though if the theater is crowded.
Rare movies shown here old style movie theater, snack bar kinda weak
Full disclosure: I am in intern at the Nick. That being said, I love the Nickelodeon. They always have something interesting to watch and are very reasonably priced (good luck going to a multi-plex and getting $1.50 popcorn and $2 beers). The theater is old but very intimate. They are currently working on moving to a beautiful new theater down on Main street which looks like it will be amazing. I recommend checking out their website and seeing if any of the previews look interesting and giving it a try.
Best popcorn in all of Santa Cruz. Great staff too. And wonderful eclectic indie movies!
Unique movies and popcorn with real butter!
Quaint little place. Kind of refreshing compared to the larger chain theaters.
Great theatre. Staff very friendly and helpful
Movies you just will not see in the corporate theatres. A great lical tradition.
Amazing popcorn. Real butter great place to enjoy a Movie.
The Nick was a Santa Cruz landmark, long before it joined the Landmark Cinemas group. Their selections are fascinating, engaging, unique and provocative. The staff are enthusiastic cinephiles and the snacks are a cut above the usual fare. One of the best art houses cinemas anywhere.
A fun little movie theater!
Beautiful theatre with the best selection of true, independent films. I hope it never goes away, every town needs at least one theatre like this.
Never had a problem with any of those complaints, over 40+ years of enjoying the Nick - must have been that writers bad hair day. Best and only place for the alternative films, not to be shown anywhere else in the county.
A very good art theater . The specs they sell are all big cut above most movie theaters . For instance they serve real butter with their popcorn . A comfortable theater. they bring very good movies to Santa Cruz
Best artsy movies
Nice local indie theater. Comfy seats good snacks at the snack bar.
The Nickelodeon Theatre is an old school gem from a bygone era and has a really cool nostalgic vibe. Like the Del Mar around the corner, this theater is owned by Landmark Theaters. But between the two, The Nick is my favorite. For being such an old theater, they have done a good job upgrading the speaker and projection systems because the sound and picture quality or definitely up to par. Also, dont expect to see big budget movies from the major studios here. This theater mainly caters more towards independent and arthouse films, one of the main reasons why I love this theater. Also the main reason why I like this theater over the Del Mar is that the seats are much more comfortable. Theyre not amazing but are much better than the Del Mar.
Nice theater. Great snacks. Small intimate atmosphere
Best theater in Santa Cruz.Intimate stting mature patrons
See a great movie here in a building with real character!
A great theater with unique movies playing and tasty snacks.
Watch Tickling Giants on the big screen- and loved it. The theater always has great movies to choose from, albeit a bit more obscure, and is always worth it
Great popcorn and good employee service
I love the films they show. My only issue is I have food allergies. They make their popcorn with canola oil which I am highly allergic to. I wish they would use coconut, palm, olive oil or even plain vegetable oil so i could get popcorn there! Also i wish they had more gluten free options. GF cookies or Hershey plain chocolate bars are GF.
Great local place for more indie-like movies. Reminds me of an awesome small town theater.
Cozy indie theater! Park in a lot near by so you dont have to worry about street parking.
Small indie theater that has the best movies and nice, sophisticated audiences.
I like the nick. I like the independent film choices. The theater is small and charming and ticket costs are fair. We drive from Watsonville to see movies there. We enjoy the matinees. Popcorn is fresh...yay!
If it werent for The Nick & The Del Mar Santa Cruz County would never get a chance to see anything but the main streams offering of flicks.
Helpful staff, clean restrooms.Recently updated seating. Theaters are small. Good snack offerings.
The Nick and Del Mar have the best movies and popcorn in town! And they have REAL butter for your popcorn!
Great off-beat movies, great movie theater with several little individual theaters.
Good old time movie theater experience
Let my friend and I watch an r rated movie (8th grade movie it wasnt even worth the r rating)
Great local theater. Come here to see independent films in a smaller, cozy venue.,
Awesome tiny independent theater. Only a couple screens but cool vibe with 2nd hand movies. Only been here a handful of times but cool place to see movies that arent as mainstream. Staff is very cheerful.
Small, comfortable theaters, good audio and film quality. This theater and the Del Mar have the best films in town, too!
Parking can be great, or it can be a very long walk. When there is an event downtown, the closest parking is a long walk from the theater. Not their fault, but you need to leave 15 minutes earlier to get to the movie on time...
Good movies, though Chappaquiddic was not fully illuminated, not bright, but riveting none the less.
The best place for Indie films in Santa Cruz hands down. The theaters are a bit small and the slopes seating is very subtle so try not and sit behind anyone too tall.
Memories. Lots of great memories.
Always love this theater. They and they del Mar have the best movies in town and the best popcorn with real butter and Brewers yeast. Yum! I also find the staff extremely helpful and personable! I was very surprised to see that someone had a bad experience. In all the years Ive been going to the Nick and the Del Mar, Ive never had a bad experience with the staff. Now, a few customers have been rude. One guy laughed and slapped his knee and was generally so loud that the entire theater was turning around to see who was making all the noise! Sooooo, I will ask that theater goers try to be aware of their own bad behavior. Thanks!
Cute local theatre, one of our favorites and 5 stars for film selections.
Great small independent theatre. Great movie selection, and each room feels small and intimate in a way giant megaplexes dont.
Small art house with great indie films. Usually short runs so if theyre playing something you want to see, dont wait!
