Pasatiempo is one of the greatest golf courses. I played it 10 years ago in 2010 and loved it then. I played it a week ago and all the greatness of this course came right back. Mackenzie is a genius at designing challenging greens. #16 has to be one of the greatest par 4s. With a slight blind tee shot followed by an approach shot that must be on the right tier of green. if you get a chance, play this course. You wont be disappointed.
While there is no doubt that this is an Alistair Mackenzie gem, the condition falls short of what theyre charging. Theres no way its worth $300/round. Lower it to $200/round, and youd probably have a more regular customer in me. Id rather drive a little further for some of the lesser (bayonnet/blackhorse complex) and more-renown (spyglass) courses which are in comparable or better condition...
One of my favorite courses. It’s a step below Pebble (what isn’t) but is great in its own right. I’m surprised this course isn’t more well known. If you’re trying to play the top courses in Northern California be sure to include it.
It is a beautiful and challenging course. The front 9 probably to warm you up but the back 9 definitely a challenge for every single hole. Tricky and character, you have to plan tour hot before teeing off as you will get into the trap and sand bunker easily. Putting still manageable except on hole 18 par 3, you better put close to the pin as it will easily roll out of green! It was a fun but tired after 18 holes !
I only went to the clubhouse for lunch, but the golf course looks nice.
Completely terrible experience. The staff there were no help at all and some were actually confrontational. I extremely do not recommend going or playing here, especially if you are not white.
Love this place! Classic MacKenzie. If you go to Pebble and pass by Pasatiempo without stopping youve missed a real treat. #8 is an awesome par 3. The Doctor himself called #16 the best par 4 that he ever designed.
The course is in good shape but way overpriced for what it is. Some of the holes are gimmicky. $275 for twilight is insane. Id rather play in Monterey or Half Moon Bay.
Five star golf course with amazing staff.
Amazing experience and perfect conditions.
Absolutely loved this course, easily in my top 5. Great variation of holes and tricky bunkering. So many options for shots to play. Greens are really fun. So slopey and tricky, really need some imagination and skill. Really cool to play a Mackenzie course too. Lots of rain this winter so soft in some areas but conditioning still top notch, what you expect from top 100 course. Also huge hole in one breakfast sandwich was very good.
Beautiful course on a beautiful summerafternoon. Greens had recently been sanded, but theyre always well maintained. Impressed myself with an 86.. thank you for being kind Pasa
One of the best Santa Cruz wedding venues! Beautiful views of the Monterey Bay. The chef is amazing and their food is better than anywhere else around here.
Course is in great shape, along with terrific weather.
What a great place to enjoy a game of golf!
Awesome place once I got settled in. Unfortunately, I had to start on hole 16. Hard to settle in when shaking in your shoes. Hint: do everything you can to avoid the bunkers and never be above the hole.
Beautiful course. Even when wet the greens were tough.
Great club house. Enjoyed the Cobb Salad and a glass of wine, with my son.
I enjoy Mackenzie grill. Quiet peaceful view. Good food
Got to play a few rounds with my golf fanatic Dad at Pasatiempo, Pebble Beach, Seascape, & Half Moon Bay. Not being as big a golfer as my Dad, I always paid more attention to the architecture and design of the venues. After playing many other courses nationwide, Pasatiempo is still a top 5 for me. Nice to see Pasatiempo will be hosting the Western Intercollegiate on NBC Golf Channel next week, 4-15 thru 4-17-19.
If you can play this course do it is worth every dollar.
Excellent service fantastic place good seats people made you feel welcome p
Immaculate conditioning.
Phenomenal experience. Course was in perfect shape and it didnt hurt the weather was perfect. If you enjoy classic style golf design this is a must play!
We had a really nice experience at Mackenzie Bar and Grill . Its a lovely setting and easy access from Highway 17. Our server was very nice, the food was good and we loved the low-key atmosphere. The only challenge was the parking . They have a decent-sized parking lot but it was a little tough finding a space... Other than that, its a wonderful experience.. Well be back
Beautiful area at Santa Cruz, I will miss this place, but I shall return
Must take a van to get to driving range which is on mats. Course was in fairly good condition and had a nice variety of holes and very undulating greens which made it fun to play. The course rangers should have done more as on the back nine there were multiple groups waiting on some tees. Not worth the high price considering how many other good courses there are in the area
One of Americas Public access gems. Truly on par with most any more famous neighbor,a must play for a serious golfer. There are members here and if you are fortunate, especially afternoon, one or more will pair with you. F&B operations first-rate as well. Deeply inside GolfWeeks Top 50 Classical Courses at # 36, easily deserving that position. Ive played this course 50 times, its one of my very favorite, Ive personally played over 1200 courses and belonged to five that are or have been on Top 100 lists. This course has great elevation changes very well-used with great design variety including Alister Mackenzies favorite green complex (#16) and was the site of his home (hole #6 - there is a plaque). Five stupendous Par 3s including the novelty of a Par 3 18th.I think 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 14 and 15 are especially notable designs, even world-class; thats a lot even for a truly great course. It is still under-rated in my opinion.
Such a well maintained course and great layout, I would highly recommend
Truth: I am a passenger not a player. However, I must say, this course is a huge favorite with our gang. They revel and rave about the challenges and fun of playing there. Attended a big Golf Tournament...good time had by all.Reputed to be the 8th Best Course... Early tee off is their modus operandi and zero traffic getting over the hill.
A great location for an intimate dinner of two or even larger parties of four or more. Dine inside by one of the two cozy fireplaces or out on the brick patio with sweeping views of the Monterey Bay. Views from most dining areas allow you watch sail boats on the bay and golfers on the greens below by day or the lights of Santa Cruz by evening.
Played Sept 20, 2015.It was great! The drought was not an issue at all.I was nervous because some reviews from last year said that it was in rough shape.Apparently the city has permitted more watering this year and it is in really great shape. There are a few brown areas but they are just in front of the tee boxes and do not comein to play.Greens were in fantastic shape and were the perfect speed.Just fast enough but not too fast for the large undulations on the green.
Great course. Amazing bunker complexes, interesting greens, and a house on the 6th fairway which you will not forget. Not sure that its worth the $250, but at $150 its a great playing option!
This is a fantastic course. They really should get rid of the cart paths it really runs the look
Great condition, fairways and greens. Greens were fast fairways like carpet. Some pins were very tough, good challenge.
Great place to have a drink and see the Oceanview
It is a beautiful and challenging course!
Historical golf course. Every golfer should play here at least once. Famous golf architecture.
Pasatiempo Golf Club, rated 4-1/2 stars, is not just home to a wonderfully designed and challenging Alister MacKenzie golf course, but also the home club of American golfing legend Juli Inkster. As its name implies, to pass time at Pasatiempo is to indulge in one of those richly rewarding golf experiences that will stay long in the memory. Well worth the stop-over if you are on your way to or from Monterey.
Incredible layout w goregous views. Bring your A game
Great course, ok to walk as well
Awesome course, but for $280 a round, the greens could be in better shape.
One of the best golf courses I have ever played
Course was immaculate, staff exceptionally professional and personable. Course is challenging and recovery shots are usually extremely difficult. Like all courses, course management is key.
Great place for a burger and fries
Fantastic course that plays much longer and tougher than meets the eye. Make it a must play if you are in the area.
Great designed golf course but the greens are unfair. Incredibly difficult greens because theyre hard to read and extremely slick. Get there early because the range requires a shuttle bus drive and you need to practice putting for very slick greens. And remember, lag putts are your friend.
Amazing experience!
Best golf course Ive played. So good...
In my opinion, one of the signs of a truly great golf course is, the more you play it, the more you have an appreciation for how great the course really is. Ive played Pasa between 10-15 times and each time I gain a new appreciation for the golf course. It is solidly in my top 5-10 courses that Ive ever played, and that includes many major championship and PGA Tour venues. This course is right up there. The golf course architecture stands the test of time - its only 6500 yards, but it plays longer than that. It has one of the longest Par 3s (3rd hole) and longest Par 4s under 400 yards (11th hole) that Ive ever played. But the green complexes are what really stands out about the course. Each one is unique and are memorable. Add to that great bunkering, a great layout, AND most importantly, the fact that its a public course - its really one of the golfing gems in the United States. Alister Mackenzie is mostly known for his work at Augusta National - but the fact that Pasatiempo helped inspire Augustas architecture (Ive been to Augusta, and I notice the influence), really gives it something extra that no other golf course can claim. Its a challenge from the 1st tee shot all the way through navigating the 18th green. Id highly recommend Pasatiempo to any golfer looking for a unique golfing experience - I always look forward to coming back here! 5 star course, no question.
Food and service is excellent. The golf.. world class.
The course was in a good shape. The back 9 nine are more interesting.Nice to play.
If your a golfer dont miss the opportunity to play one of the TOP golf courses in the World.
Nice course, no so easy. As with most golf courses, great seanary. Nice service.
Very nice and clean
If you dont play golf try the food at the golfshop.
Awesome track. Playable and love the design.
A little overrated when considering the price tag. Still a fantastic golf course, but probably not worth $300.
Very clean well kept
Beautiful Area.
Very classy establishment. A little pricy though
Beautiful and fancy venue. Staff is very friendly!
They advertise free balls with a membership but its all false.
