California Historic Landmark inscription: (missing)Jose Lobero opened the regions first legitimate theatre on this site February 22, 1873. For many years the old theatre was the center of social life in Santa Barbara. A new Lobero Theatre, opened in 1924 on the same site, continues to serve the cultural interests of the area.#361, 1974

Great venue. I saw quite a few extraordinary acts there. The staff is great too. The audience is well behaved, unlike the audience at the SB Bowl. Leo Kottke did an amazing emotional version of Julie’s House. I haven’t heard another version like that. It seems like every performer is elevated to a higher level. Acoustics is fantastic.

The Lobero theater was lovely! The acoustics were great (you could hear every heckler across the theater!), the ushers were polite, and the restrooms were clean. Overall a pleasant experience, though they seem to allow hats in the theater, which may block your view even more than usual.

A gleaming jewel in Santa Barbaras architectural crown, the Lobero sits one block off State Street in the heart of the city. Its faux Spanish Colonial exterior and elegant interior (and proximity to fine eateries and bars) combine to make the little palace a pleasant entertainment destination. Many community arts groups perform there, along with visiting artists, though high-octane star acts tend to land in other Santa Barbara venues.

During the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, I saw two films at the Lobero. If youve never been, youll discover that its a Santa Barbara Architectural Landmark, like the Arlington Theater. The Lobero Theater can be set up for movies and live concerts. Try to see the Lobero Theater, during the daylight and then at night. its just beautiful.

Best venue in town for live music. No bad seats.

Jo
Review №58

The acoustics are a bit drab compared to other theaters, and is a theater with all seats and no where to really stand. For example, I went to see a concert of a Folk rockband and many people wanted to dance but really couldnt. A few of those brave souls who did, however, ended up being escorted out of there seat and told to stand in the aisle ways.

What a beautiful facility and what a central location. The history of the theater goes back to the Late 1800s I am speaking to the theatre itself. The performers and performances speak for themselves, as the quality is top notch. The Theatre has been updated and rebuilt to its current pinnacle. The parts of the theatre designed by the famous architect Luta are still present in the current incarnation. The Theatre is registered California Historical Landmark No. 361 first built in 1873 and rebuilt in 1924
