Incredible Chiura Obata exhibit in March 2018. An American hero. Friend of Ansel Adams, interned in a camp during WWII, taught Art at U.C. Berkeley. His art combines the best of the West along with his Japanese roots. He was prolific, demonstrating the life long passion for his art. Thanks to UCSB for putting on this exhibit, and helping to continue the legacy. I was fortunate that my parents met Chiura in Berkeley in the 70s and we were fortunate to have been able to bring his art into our home.
The most rewarding opportunity of my life was to visit this museum and experience the work of Ms. JaTovia Gary. I must say that she is very gifted and talented not to mention her wealth of knowledge of this subject matter in which she delivered in her presentation. She is very articulate, inspirational and captivating. She knows how to hold her own. JaTovia stands strong in what she believes to be true in her heart, which has become her way of life. Thank you, JaTovia for sharing your gift with the world.JD
I’ve been interning here for about a year and it has been so much fun. The museum has done an incredible job of hosting fun and unique exhibitions and programming, particularly considering their limitations as a small campus museum. I recommend you check the website before coming in to see what’s being shown, but it’s great for a spur-of-the moment pop in as well!
Small museum but very well done. The curators are top notch and the staff are extremely friendly. The exhibits are beautiful and always interesting. The most recent exhibit was on Michael Westmore and displayed original Star Trek makeup designs and masks. The museum is free and welcomes all. Be sure to leave a tip. :-)
Very nice museum! Bigger than it looks from outside....
Small venue with great surprises!
Love having the opportunity to see some great works of art through out the year while taking a break from studding.
For a university museum, very nice. Superb collection of Chiura Obata paintings. Very moving pieces, especially from the Japanese internment era.
There is always a new exhibit in the Art Museum. We love to go visit and go back every year.
Cool place to visit
One of the most beautiful campus in US
