This hike is no joke. Beautiful but challenging. The 3.5 miles to the top is very steep with a lot of rocks and roots on a well kept trail. The top offers a great view of Sandpoint and the massive lake, and when the timing is right (we got lucky) a bounty of huckleberries. If youre looking for a good workout, this is a great way to go. Only saw a few folks on trail, which was nice. Ample parking and a public restroom are a nice touch.
The trail says it is kid friendly, so I thought it would be an easier hike. But great trail if you want a workout and to see a beautiful view. It’s a bit rocky.
The best in town trail for a challenging 7 mile workout with 2,150 feet of gain. Views are stupendous. Remember elevation at bottom will be warmer so carry extra layers. Parking lot is excellent and pit toilet is generally clean. Lazy dog owners often dont pick up after their canines so watch your step through the meadows.
Good trail. Very fun and the scenery is very rewarding.
Great trail! Could be strenuous for some but well worth the climb for gorgeous views of Lake Pend Oreille and distant mountains. Also, wildflowers abound!
It’s an awesome trail for getting in shape and the views are wonderful. Take your time or run either way is good. The terrain is a little rocky and hard on the feet so wear good boots/trail shoes.
Great trail with beautiful views. Several trees down from recent wind storm but not difficult to traverse. Some ice on trail.
Its a great trail with some awesome views, but can be difficult if you arent in shape. Quite a steep grade, but if you are a fan of hikes it is well worth it. Hope the trail isnt busy cause there isnt a lot of parking. There is a bathroom at the bottom that you can use before you start.
For some reason I thought it would be an easier grade. High ascent quickly gained. The snow run off follows some of the trail making it difficult in spring. Beautiful overlook of the area!
My daughter loves going up the trail
The trail is a bit rough with rocky terrain and tree roots, but it is well maintained and several great viewpoints.
Nice trail with beautiful views of Lake Pend Oreille. Moderate difficulty, mostly uphill. Views are worth the effort. Pups are allowed off-leash, which is a bonus. Bring water for you and your pup, especially in the summer as many areas of the trail are exposed to sun.
The mosquitoes were terrible but the flowers were beautiful. The trail is eroded from winter, but still quite good, and the quick access from Sandpoint makes it popular.
Good workout and great views
Vertical trail, rocks, challenging for average hikers
Tough hike but the views are worth it.The trail gets a little overgrown at points, pants are recommended if it wouldnt be too hot.
Great hike/run! Steep
Not a beginner hike but very scenic.
I love Mickinnick. Whether youre wanting a quick after work workout or hardcore half day adventure, Mickinnick has got you covered.
This trail head was engorged with joggers and oozed fantastic memories. I got bits and pieces of nature where the sun didnt shine - very shady!
Great hike but challenging and took longer than expected. My 8 and 10 year old made it to the top and were glad they did. Amazing view.
Best close trail in Sandpoint. Wonderful views. Dog friendly. No water in summer.
Fun hike. Take a picnic lunch and eat on the big rock with a great view at the top.
Was a great up hill but then the continuously steep down hill became a bit annoying. Beautiful without a doubt but be ready and wear heavy duty trail shoes.
It is really cool. It is a really long trail. If you bring more than two people bring a gallon jg of water.
Did this trail twice this summer. A great hike and decent workout.
Beautiful place and wonderful hiking
Love this trail cause its so close to town.
Great hike!
This is a well maintained and somewhat challenging mountain trail with great views along the way and at the top--which really isnt. 4-miles to trails terminus from the parking lot. 500-foot per mile ascent on switchbacks with benches near bottom, at midpoint and at trails end. My wife and I often hike with our Labrador Retriever to the second benches. Dog friendly. Off leash is okay once youre in Forest Service land.Vault toilet, bear proof trash can and dog poop sacks at the parking lot. This is an out and back hike. After third set of benches, it looks like the trail may continue but it doesnt. Some folks like scrambling on the summit boulders; one spot affords a great view to the North, opposite of the bench view southeast over the Lake.
Its an awesome hike it really only takes like 3 hours
This trail is very easily accessed and provides a great workout as it winds its way up the basalt benches laid bare by the largest floods in the world (Search: Great Lake Missoula Floods). The light is direct in the morning and the trail is shaded in the pm hours. Its hard to beat the fantastic easterly views of downtown Sandpoint, Lake Pend Oreille and the Cabinet Mountains unless you are up at Schweitzer and its summit.Bring water as there is none on the trail.US Forest Service vaulted-style toilet in parking lot.
Great hike. Great view of Pend Oreille and the beautiful town of Sandpoint, Idaho.
Awesome view of Sandpoint and Lake
Steep trail. Difficult in winter
