One of my favorite local parks in the middle of San Mateo downtown. Love to come here any time of the year. Spring and summer for the beautiful flowers, autumn with the beautiful leaves and winter for the fresh atmosphere. Lots of dogs with a dog run. Love to watch them. Beautiful squirrels that will appreciate some nuts. So peaceful in the middle of town.

Theres a lot of things to do here. Good for kids, good for couples, good for doing Tai Chi or in the park, running, looking at flowers. They even have a Ceramics Studio on site and in the winter they have an ice rink. My favorite saying that they have which unfortunately is only open until 4 p.m. is the Japanese tea garden the scenery constantly changes with the season which I really enjoyed I visit pretty much all the time I highly recommend it.

I love central park in San Mateo. The recreation center here is more geared to self help for the elderly, but the spring dance show is here on the outdoor stage (fun to watch the kids). Also be sure to visit the Japanese Tea Garden next door!

Great place for tennis but the courts are not the best Ive seen. Many of them have large cracks and the courts are concave so water tends to build.Edit 11/6. Unfortunately the cracks in the courts have only gotten larger, with pieces of the courts coming up. They desperately need to be resurfaced.

A nice, multi-use public park. Stroll through a fenced-off section of the park which is the Japanese garden and participate in Koi fish feeding (set time schedule).Theres a nursery in the main part of the park where you can buy volunteer-grown orchids and succulents, among other flower or veg/fruit bearing plants. This is located near a beautiful and fragrant rose garden. Classes on gardening and floral arrangements are offered in the nursery.Theres a baseball/softball field by the underground parking and tennis courts directly above the parking. Theres also a kiln room that goes with the pottery class next to the baseball field. Register online at San Mateo parks and rec for classes offered.A senior citizen, activity center is within the park (next to Japanese garden), as well.

A wonderful park in the heart of downtown San Mateo. Dog friendly (with leash) with plenty of space to spread out. Baseball diamond, tennis courts, Japanese tea garden (no joke), public bathrooms, and a playground round out the place. Fairly easy to get to, plenty of parking nearby (ranging from free to paid).
