This is a very nice local little Museum all about trains. They have train models and train gifts and lots of little descriptions of different aspects of Central Coast railroading. You can also walk on board some train cars. This is an excellent place to bring young kids. Theres also a lot of very friendly docents around who are happy to help

Great little museum! My son LOVED it. It was only $3 to get in and totally worth it! The model train area is not complete... But as with most model train areas it will probably never be truly done! They will always be working on something! It was all decorated for Christmas so it was very pretty! Loved it!

Cute little train musuem. My 5 year old son loved it and had a blast. The gentlemen inside the train we could walk into was very informative and toned his talk down for my son. Models are great too. If you need something to kill time its a great little find.

Top notch history of the Central Coast through the lens of the railroads impact. The displays are done well and the model railroad depicts every area that the real railroad served. There are real rail cars outside. The bonus is that the museum is in the original freight house built in 1897!There is a gift shop with apparel, books, videos, and toys. Check online for their schedule of events including classes on local history and model railroading techniques.

This place has the history of the railroads, mostly the Southern Pacific railroad. It is a treasure to visit. They have artifacts. A running miniature railroad in there. Very Railroad savvy Docents. Great place to take the kids. Can tour one of the old Pullman cars. Only costs 3dollars open all day Saturdays.. They host a festival.

Well worth a look. Top priority are things relating to local area. HO scale model railroad showing train route from Santa Margarita, over the grade and down to surf. At platform are a 1926 cafe/lounge car, a completely restored caboose, and an engine last used at Camp Roberts. Also displays of local rail activity. Open 10 until 4 on Saturdays.

Historic place, perfect for families, and the bridge over the tracks will give you a nice view of the city. We do have a good amount (or bad amount) of transients that frequent this area but they are generally harmless and leave people alone. The museum is one of the best kid-friendly options in SLO other than the childrens museum of course..

Lovely little museum! Charlie is a charming curator. Hes a fascinating person. The working model train exhibit wasnt in operation when we were there but it was still very impressive. It covers a large room and is a carefully built replica of the area during the 1950s. The cafe car and caboose outside are being refurbished and will be lovely when theyre completed. Well definitely be visiting again when we return to San Luis Obispo!

Awesome museum staffed by knowledgeable volunteers. It has some lovely cars that the volunteers are happy to give you a tour of, and a extensive and beautifully executed model railroad. I quite enjoyed their Morse code exhibit, and talking to the person who set it up. If you are interested in railroad history, or machinery in general, this is a great place to stop by.

There was a speaker who shared lots of great info of the history of trains and their displays were great and interactive, I wasnt aware of the entry price but it was well worth it. The moorse machine and caboose were my favorite part

The San Luis Obispo Train Museum is open with local artifacts of the area. The Train History That has been collected is in several displays of what and where and how the train affected the local history. The Pacific Coast Trains tell a story. Very Nice. The History of the Avila Beach Train and its history reveals many thing I sure had no idea about. The huge panorama shots of San Luis in 1930 and 2013 are particularly interesting for locals. The is a nice well stocked gift shop for train souvenirs and train books. Good place for Christmas shopping for sure. There is a club car outside, that is in process of being updated, and it does give a feel for the old rail cars. The bathroom is so tiny!Mow for model trains there is a ginormous model train set under construction so I encourage visits to see how it is going. The docents are very happy, chatty and full of information. This Museum is up and coming and will only get better with time.

Small that took about 30-45 mins to visit. Exhibits should be better maintained, specially when there are so few. The 1920s train car is the best exhibit, but it really need some TLC and please stop using different areas of the car as storage for old boxes.
