A calm and peaceful place in the middle of San Jose, with a bright exterior that stands out. Within walking distance of many hotels, public transit, and other attractions like the San Jose museum of art. When I visited, there was no mass, but there were running a brief tour around the cathedral. The colorful stained glass windows, decorative ceiling, and well-maintained statues were the highlight of the trip. A great public space for folks who would like to pray, meditate, contemplate, or find a quiet reprieve from the bustling downtown area.

This once-beautiful basilica has, like so many others, been defaced by vandals infected with the Spirit of Vatican II. This is one of the worst wreckovations Ive seen, which is impressive. Achievement unlocked, I guess. On the positive side, you can spend an entertaining five minutes playing Wheres Waldo to find the Tabernacle.

The title says it all. Interesting to spend a few minutes looking at the architecture, decor and history, but doesnt compare with other cathedrals in the US or elsewhere in the world.

Interesting architecture, if you are on the right flight path in/out of the airport you can see it when landing or taking off, it is a stark difference to the buildings surrounding it. It is right next to the art museum. We just stepping inside the entry way as they had an anniversary celebration mass going on and the pews were full. The do have the service on a monitor in the entry way, which was good for the parent of a very active small child who wanted to run around rather than sit quietly. They also have a gift shop adjacent to the basilica.

Located in downtown San Jose, this is a beautiful church both inside and out. Inside it is very peaceful. You can see the organs and beautiful paintings on the ceiling. Since it is downtown, parking can be a hassle and expensive. However church is accessible through light rail, station is close by. A Must visit place.

This is definitely one of the most beautiful churches in US I have ever been to. The ceiling of the central dome, the 39 stained glass windows, the wall decorations and the 4 statues at each corner, all are beautiful artwork by itself. The atmosphere inside is so quiet and peaceful no matter when I visit. Just love it here. Free guided tour available from 1pm to 3pm on Fridays. Not wheelchair accessible.

It looks quite modern for an old church. Seems like the interior was remodeled while they preserved the antiquity of the exterior which does provide a stark reminder of San Joses long and storied history dating back to the 1800s. The interiors are very well maintained, everything is shining and spot clean. They also keep the area around the exterior clean.

Its a beautiful cathedral, along with the bride and groom. The setup is a bit awkward for a wedding though. The bride and groom have to sit through most of the ceremony and they are hidden from 1/2 of the audience behind a huge table elevated in the center of the cathedral. the sound quality is so so when youre hearing impaired. I didnt understand most of what was being amplified. And no wedding downtown is complete without a hobo walking through the ceremony. Parking across the street is pricey; for an hour and a half $12.00 be prepared. Maybe because it was Saturday.

Wow, this cathedral speaks to you.If you are walking down towards South Market Street in San Jose, this piece of architecture resonates and invites you to step in.I loved the fusion of different architecture styles used to build the main prayer hall. The walls, dome, roof, mirrors and sculptures all points towards the vibrance of the history and design ethics used to create this marvel. This cathedral is one of the few buildings in North America region that sustained the California Earthquake 1906.Theres so much history associated to this cathedral that I strongly recommend to take a tour.

A beautiful cathedral basilica. They turn on the lights during a mass. This would be the best way to experience and take in the beautiful frescos and statuary. This is a working basilica and is in very good nick. Im glad I came at just the right time to fully appreciate it.

Beautiful building, but once the mass starts you can feel it is not the classical Catholic ambient, it feels more like a Jeahova Witness meeting. I do not recommend if you are looking for traditional Catholic services. Not even kneeling benches are provided.

Busy church, very well run. Main church of this area (Diocese of SJ), and old, so all sorts of splendor at all times. Beautiful and formal, but not stuffy. Very welcoming and warm people in all positions, professional, volunteer, religious and lay (civilian, if you will). Good facilities for events, large hall. Parking close, mostly paid/metered. This is the kind of church you want to put on your Sunday best for!

I have been to many beautiful churches in the US and Western Europe. This is my favorite because it has the perfect balance between the old and new. I understand that it was renovated about 25 yrs ago. In addition to keeping the beautiful art work and statues it has a correct liturgical setting. No matter where you sit you can see everything and everyone. The ambo and altar show the proper respect to Word and Sacrament. The altar is center but the priest never has his back to you. The font mimics the altar along with the circular design of the renovated space. The blessed Sacramemt is well located behind the wall so people can have a space for personal prayer. Whoever designed this is a genius. The materials and appointments in the church are of excellent quality. Thank you for showing this masterpiece of a church and Catholic worship space. Robert Rizzo

I love this Basillica. It is located in San Jose downtown and is a wonderful place to have a quiet time after work or on weekends to pray and do reflection. Mass time is very convenient. I like the fact that there are a lot of visiting priests too. The book store carries good collection of catholic stuff. I found great gifts for my godmother and family members from there.

Depressing experience for a Sunday Liturgy. Combination Neo Baroque style Architecture with 1890s glass and Plastic. Seating without kneelers and. Pergo Flooring. Barely recognizable Roman Catholic Mass with folk music more akin to Evangelical Tents. Hardly worthy of a Cathedral or Minor Basilica

Spectacular! And you can get a tour. Definitely worth your time.

Review №62

So wonderful church to visit. Came to visit middle of week around 8 pm. Only matter is the hobos outside begging for money and smoking pot turning cracky if you offer a meal instead of money. It is unfair how they use our faith for their solely benefit. Never more I givem a dime to them if they want just to buy pot when they can earn some cleaning up streets. And much less when they get mad if no money offered.

I just have to recommend google map before you go and find a metered parking space mostly by the street. If there were paid public parking in a building, i havent seen it. I got a ticket on a saturday thinking it was free parking on weekends. So yeah plan ahead peeps.

I believe that this Catholic.Outreach facility is the only homeless outreach facility left in San Jose. At least this is the word from people who are not suppose to say anything in San Jose (Our HOMELESS). I know of a few homes just around St. James Park that would be just fine for our homeless. I know when I was homeless. Anything that could make me feel covered, helped me feel secure. Even if it was a cardboard box, then I could sleep. Today, now that I can receive a decent place to live, I am able to have security. I am very grateful to the State of California. The state has provided me with
