In A Nutshell:-The brand-new $130 million Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center is awesome!-The community waited for about 2 years for this place to open & it finally did right before summer 2019.-There are 3 swimming pools, which includes a 15 lane lap pool, plus diving board, a kiddie/lounge pool area & a pool w/ 4 lane lap pool plus open water swim area.-You dont feel cramped & theres a lot of room w/ plenty of outdoor sunshine.-The locker room has lockers, but I think they are reserved for the students, so just use the locker room to change & use the bathroom.-I like the expensive $10 day pass or $60 monthly (plus you need to commit to a year) which weeds out people so it doesnt get crowded.Overall, this will be my new go-to place to swim countless laps, while getting a nice tan since its all outdoor!

Totally revamped the swimming pool. Much more modern. 2 pools....one used for competition and the other for rec swim. Bad news is that spectator seating is limited and not suited conference championships.

Best pool in the Bay Area. I drive an hour four times a week just to swim here. Its worth it every single time. They have towel service for members at a one-time $10 fee, and 12mo contract for the pool at $60/mo and pool & gym at $90/mo. Built in April 2019, so everything feels fresh and the space is open and spatious. Take a tour and youll see how awesome this gym is!

Finally San Jose State University got something right. Excellent facility with quality pools, weight and cardio equipment. Indoor track plus indoor basketball/volleyball/soccer courts. Not to mention the climbing wall, the variety of classes offered, or plenty of study space inside. Summer pool passes are offered for families with kids or for anyone who wants to come and swim. My only gripe is that SJSU students should be allowed a certain number of free guest passes as paying ten dollars every time you want to workout with a non-SJSU student gets old quick. Other SJSU facilities should take notice of what the gym has done right and follow in their footsteps.

I played basketball last weekend here. The new floor is amazing! I bought a day pass which is 15$. The pass should give you full access of the facility including working out equipment, pool and basketball courts. The place is big and the air doesnt smell so sweaty as other gyms Ive been to. The day pass is a little much for me since I only play basketball for 2 hours... It might be a good bargain for people with a lot energy. Theres parking near the facility, but the space is very limited. Street parking might be needed.. but be careful of the restrictions!

Outstanding addition to SJSU! Love that theyve set up memberships that bring the community in too, but without taking away from the students. The summer pool pass was fantastic and affordable and well definitely sign up next year again. Now, if only I could get myself to the gym regularly, Id sign up as an annual member!

Beautiful facility. Truly the nicest gym youll ever attend. At the same time though, the expensive construction and upkeep of the facility simply perpetuates the rising cost of university.

Huge beautiful gym without adequate equipment. It would be perfect if there were 8 more Deadlift Platforms, Squat racks, and benches. Not practical

I had the worst experience here today. My friend invited my son and I to the pool and got us a day pass.(She owns a membership) we enjoy the swimming pools for about 2 hours. As we were ready to leave my son realized he left his Sandals at the other side of the pool, keep in mind its 90 degrees outside, I believe my son ran to the other side of the pool( I know he is not supposed to run). Next think I know I see one of the lifeguard literally walk to my son and got In his face! Like he was going to fight my 9 year old. I immediately walk up to him and I heard the tone and way he was talking to my son. I asked him to please not talk to my son the way he was and not to yell in his face. I was above upset about how this idiot was talking to a CHILD. No one and I mean NO ONE should walk up to a child and literally get in his face and try to intimidate him, I wouldnt have mind if he walk up to him and just told him to obey the rules but theres a way to say things. I came home and told my husband and he is beyond upset not only did he over due it, now my son is scared to go back to the pool. I am sure this idiot of a lifeguard has done this to other kids and SJSU needs to look into this.

I have edited my review from 5 stars to 1 star ( because 0 star is not available). Because yesterday I had very bad experience for first aid facilities. Yesterday one of the my friends got minor injury in his finger while playing volleyball, then we went to the front desk but shocking thing was that none of the student staff members had any of the solution for that minor injury- like pain relief spray, liquid..they had nothing with them in such kind of urgency. Even they could not refer us to any other spot where we could find any solution. They are just mannequin or what!! That was the moment I lost my trust and interest from this place. What if someone is dying while playing sport or using gym instruments???

Spartan Recreation center is not expensive compare to why you get, it’s extremely clean, the equipment is fantastic and I can bring my wife for small charge. The staff is friendly and they have a lot of cardio equipment and two pools. This makes it easy to spread out! Even though it is in the SJSU campus it does not give me the feeling that is busy right now. After a day I would say it is recommended

A beautiful, albeit relatively pricey, newly built gym (opened in new building April 2019). There are a plethora of amenities and theres plenty of space/little crowding issues. Theres a rock climbing wall, pool, basketball/volleyball/foosball courts, and studios with free class admission with membership.

Not nearly enough benches, racks and or lifting chairs for the amount of people that go to the school. Good thing there is a heated pool that I never see anyone use.
