Well planned and thought through theatre. Good seating everywhere and good acoustics. Saw a New Ballet production, thoroughly recommend. The only thing I didnt like was paying for parking but in a down town area unfortunately its to be expected these days. Also make sure you are not sitting in front of a poor child whose delinquent/worthless parent allows them to kick the seat in front of them. If you are one of those parents who allows this please give your child up for adoption to someone who will actually care for the child and raise them correctly.
A decent theater that’s in the middle of downtown San Jose. I came here for cinequest and found that there was a good mix of people that came by. The theater I went to was like a auditorium and had enough space to seat a good amount of people. We were able to see the screen pretty well from our seats and the acoustics weren’t bad. Overall, a simple theater with older decor and lesser known films.
Awesome theater with amazing shows. Highly recommend you check it out, whether you are a local or visiting tourist. This theater has been underrated for a long time but the more recent performances have really blown audiences out of the water. Support local performers and the downtown community by coming to a few shows at the Hammer Theatre!
Comfortable seats and easy access. We’re the first good sign. An excellent audio system and huge projection screen made the video presentation of the play almost as good as a live performance.
Ive seen multiple shows here and have always had a good time. Its difficult to rate only the venue when you mostly remember the show you saw, but my experience with the location and staff has always been great. Not much parking though, all off site
Always enjoyable events here. Affordable. Comfortable. Theres really not a bad seat. Performances are close & intimate. Staff members & volunteeres are always pleasant & greet you warmly.
Really nice and cozy theater with decent drama and plays showings. Near the SJSU and free parking on the streets after 6 pm
Very nice venue. All seats seem good. Beer is a little expensive at $9.00..
Theatre, music, dance in the heart of SJ. Quickly becoming a community mainstay, bringing in events from near by and all over the world!
SJSU puts on some great events here. They recently had dancers from Juliard performing Gallim.
A gem. Saw the London national theater broadcast of Frankenstein. The small, intimate setting was perfect. Before you fight the traffic to anything in San Francisco, check out whats being offered at Hammer
Saw the Nutcracker ballet (childrens version) at this theater, enjoyed the production and the theatre experience. Parking in a parking garage next door was easy and reasonable price ($5 on weekends).
Loved watching the Nutcracker preformed by New Ballet School San Jose. I cant wait to see the rest of their season and their talented dancers continue to grow!
Its a very nice theatre space in a very convenient location. Ive only seen films there and the acoustics are very good. I think the stage and seating must be very good for live theater, too. My only complaint is that the lobby seems too narrow and constraining.
Great location for plays. The staff was very helpful when seating my father in his wheelchair though they need better signage and seating locations for those who are wheelchair bound. Their online seating map gives a false impression about seating for those in wheelchairs.
We had a lovely time watching my the New San Jose Ballets production of The Nutcracker.
My favorite place for breakfast. Friendly staff, large menu and delicious food.
Great venue, easy cheap parking next door and excellent programming
Great venue, interesting Architecture. Good restaurants nearby.
Love the atmosphere! It feels like you are so close to the stage when you are on the balcony.
My first time there. Almost all seats have great view of the stage. Good acoustics.
Was there for an event. Nice facility. Helpful and kind staff.
I loved how close we where and that we got chose our sits for the concert is TeenTop
Saw a great dance group Saturday night, Jessica Lang. Also discovered that the venue has an extensive schedule of events. Many of these events do not get much publicly in the Mercury. Too bad! When the venue went dark a number of years ago I for one forgot about it. Really glad thate SJSU is bringing it back to life!
Its one of the best places to watch musicals!
Great seating in an intimate theater with good acoustics.
Host to Cambrian symphony tonight I miss the snacks trays that were available for the cinequest but great venue
Nearby parking. Great seats
A very comfortable theater with good views from every seat Im actually enough space for a body to sit comfortably
Not too small, not too big--just right.
Love this place - the seats can be better though.
Staff were polite and professional, venues were clean and orderly.
Great theater, easy parking, wonderful show. Only thing I didnt like was how close together the seats were. I felt like I was stuck on a cramped airplane. If youre chubby, God help you.
A small theater operated by SJSU. Every seat is a good sight line. Good acoustics and ADA compliant.
A great venue for live theater and filmed versions of live theater. Sightlines are excellent to very good from pretty much any seat. Theres even a very decent bar in the lobby. Overall, best venue for live theater in San Jose, along with the (considerably larger) California Theatre.
Small theater so all seats are great
Great place if you would like to see a lower budget production. Not a bad seat in the house.
Small and comfortable theater without a bad seat.Beautiful art glass light fixtures.Innovative programming that includes Englands National Theater Live.
Beautiful theater. Not a bad seat in the house.
Beautiful theater. Lovely shows. Friendly staff and crew.
This place has the best plays and is a hidden gem in the downtown area
Every seat is a great seat. Nice beverage selection... Wish they offered a Pinot Noir. Meet & Greet with artist, Katherine Russell was FABULOUS!!!!!!!
Pretty cool area to hang out with family &/or friends. The theater ambiance is great and very accessible via public transportation. Also a few hotels & restaurants in walking distance, as well as museums.
We watched An Irish Christmas from the balcony. Very nice
Fantastic Experience. My wife and I used to have season tickets when the Hammer Theater used to be the San Jose Rep and In the Heights production tonight was as good, if not better than many if the SJRep shows. Well done!
Clean, comfortable seats, great acoustics, and cozy . Nice place to see the ballet
Menopause the Musical was awesome beyond words. The performers were fantastic - top of their game. Not only did I laugh harder and longer than I can remember, but as a male I learned a few lessons as well.
Great venue for plays and musicals. Not a bad seat in the house. Snack bar is fine but not the main reason to go. And plenty of restaurants to visit before or after.
We saw a really fun play. Great cast and music. Great small stage with great sound and sets. Definite go to place. Love it!
I love this venue. Its nice and cozy every seat is a good seat. The staff here is very friendly and helpful.
Saw a nice little one act play here. This theatherbis quite small and has a cozy feel. There isnt a bad seat in the house. So glad it has reopened and I look forward to more enjoyable performances.
Nice clean theater. Smaller than I thought but makes most seats closer to the front.
Had a great time and a very fun place to see a show.
Has good programs but make sure you get there early to find parking
Love the new opportunities for upcoming scripts!
You cannot go wrong with anything on this great campus
Lovely theater space, with great balcony seating. It is a particularly nice place to watch movies during the Cinequest film festival.
Went to Humane Society Silicon Valleys Mutual Rescue Film Festival. Very nice and comfortable venue.
Lovely venue. Not large, so every seat is good and you feel connected with the players on stage. Small bar area for pre-show cocktails. They provide adult sippy cups so you can take your drink into the theater. :) Overall a great experience.
Nicely appointed small theater (500 seats) in the heart of San Jose. Owned by the city, managed by SJSU.
Nice venue, easy to get to. Comfortable seats, good bar. Great food and drinks around.
Very pleasant productions.
Voice was Elvis reincarnated. Needed a new wardrobe manager as he wore a dram suit and pants didn’t match jacket. Seats were good for $60
I work here for almost 10 months. Great place to work and great people. Learned a lot about theatre being an engineer.
Small. Serviceable.
Great music, plesent athmosfere, and lovely people,
Its a great theater
1st time visitor, was nice intimate setting. Only problem is location and parking. Already paid for the show, hate having to pay for parking too.
Saw NXT live. Venus was nice.
Nice small theatre with good sound
Awesome view from every seat
The first time I have ever seen anything there. The there is not bad seat in the house.
Intimate venue for San Jose JazzFest Sarah McKenzie film and recording session.
Nice little theatre. Comfortable seats and reasonable leg room.
I was surprised at how little space we had as the seats were closer than on an airplane. The venue was nice though and even from the balcony we could hear and see well.
Every seat is a great one at the Hammer! Great sound & views with an excellent attentive staff!
Weve been subscribers for almost 20 years. There isnt a bad seat in the house. Staff is great about exchanging tickets. Plays run the gamut from light to dark. Always high quality acting.
Great view of stage at most seats
Saw Dee Dee Bridgewater w/ SJSU Jazz Orchestra- fantastic!
Had a good time there.
A huge theatre space with good seating options.
Never been to this theatre, very conveniently located, easy to park in the garage next door. Friendly staff and great seats...there is no bad seat in the house.
Not the best for a motion picture of sitting on the side. Cozy place
Wonderful place to go
Its a smaller venue, which I find more enjoyable than the larger, more crowded venues.
I is clean and well run, its missing a little bit of an atmosphere for me to get 5 stars though.
No bad sear in the house. Nice bar with snacks
Great venue to see Menopause the Musical! So fun!
My little girl had a show go Erica Smith...
Really great theater, comfy seats, fantastic for events
We saw National Theatre Live there which is rebroadcast of top notch London theatre. Fab!
