Ive been to Brewcade twice now and its a really fun place! Theres a ton of beer with cool names! Not to mention dozens of old school arcade games. Its a good place for groups but it always seems to be crowded so get there early and grab a spot! Also! Happy hour is M-F 4-7! ;)
Great environment! Staff and owner are very friendly. We came to play Killer Queen after getting hooked on the game in Portland. The machine was having trouble with an update so we waited a little, but the proprietor gave us a free pitcher of beer when he saw we were waiting to play! Great guy!The KQ crowd was very tight knit yet were very positive towards us newer players. They even had a Super Smash tournament going. This place is awesome!
Got to finally check out The Detour in the Castro. Its the newest addition in a line of bar turned gaming clubs in the city but this one definitely delivers. They have a great selection of arcade and pinball games ranging from classic to new. The decor is really well done and I appreciate the addition of the comics plastered to the walls in the back. The bar is busy but friendly and once you get a hold of someone service is quick and awesome. The food is delicious bar food. The pizza has a surprisingly delicious asian twist and I appreciate the simple flavor packed burger. Overall a great time. Would definitely come back
Had the best lemon drop martinis thanks to The Detour. Great time and cant wait to go back.
This is a fun place to hang out after work. Their happy hour is a steal! Great selection of games, although Coin-Op has them beat on selection & the fact that they play fitting 90s music. Be sure to catch this place on free game night.
What a wonderful time! Sheree and TC made my first time here, only my 2nd time in SF phenomenal! My company held a party here and reserved the games section. The food was great with very inventive flavors! Much more than typical bar food. Everyone I engaged with was wonderful and really made my time there memorable. For a fun time, great food, and awesome drinks, definitely head here.
Ninja Turtles, Simpsons, and Xmen are missing. Maybe we can get some pinball machines. This place is seriously lacking compared to other barcades.
FOOD: You get bread with you pastas and UGH the bread itself is so good! The pasta...oh man where do I even start? Ive had the Four Cheese, Arrabbista (spicy), Porcini Mushroom, Tomato & Basil, Pesto, & the Salmon & Cream. ok..pretty much the entire menu but the pasta alone is the reason why I come back! I love that its freshly made. The texture is not too soft and not too hard (i mean if it was hard it would be uncooked but besides my point lol) Its always cooked just right. The sauces are so unique and I cant find it just anywhere else so thats a bonus!
Great drinks, great outdoor (Covid-19) atmosphere!
Awesome arcade! Great game selection! Beer was local and good. Water glasses were a very good size. Super cool place.
Love this place, especially on free play and board game nights. They also have trivia on Wednesdays! The drinks and black sesame fries are great. The paprika wings were a little weird but overall a good place for late night snacks and games.
Great atmosphere with loads of old school arcade games, great selection of alcohol at the bar and super smash bros on the big screen! Will definitely be returning again in the future
Cool spot if youre into pinball machines and old school arcade games. Not really my scene except I loved that they were playing The Big Lebowski on the tv screens and the bartender working whatever night I went was pretty cool. Im not much of a beer drinker so I poorly told him what I didnt like and then in the end he just chose my beer for me. He did a good job. I also enjoyed that there was cold still and sparkling water on tap for self service. Very convenient because I was nursing a 3 day hangover so lots of water and some beer for a little hair of the dog was just what I needed.
Super fun barcade in the city. Ive been to many in different cities, and this is one of the better ones. The have a lot of different games, and most importantly, they have a Killer Queen cabinet.
Great fun, good drinks and lovely staff. The staff went above and beyond helping us when we lost some items. Not only did they help us find them, they took our information down and contacted us when the items were found. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely become a regular.
Incredible atmosphere. I had so much fun. I wish there was such a place close to where I live.
Pizza was great, especially since it was a bar. Games were a fun and way to bond with others. Plus, at only a dollar, it was easy to play a bunch of them. Most of the people came in groups, probably not the best place to meet someone new.
This is a fun place to hang out after work. Their happy hour is a steal! Great selection of games, although Coin-Op has them beat on selection & the fact that they play fitting 90s music. Be sure to catch this place on free game night.
Brewcade is always a fun time. We love going to play Killer Queen and other games. I love Flamin Finger. The bar has a huge beer selection. The bar doesn’t serve food but they allow you to get food delivered to the bar and bring in your own food no problem. Staff is friendly.Extra details:21+ they check IDs. There is an ATM. There are 2 change machines. Bathrooms are single rooms (no stalls). Decent amount of tables and chairs.
I had my birthday here in September and returned for other events and always had a good time with great beers and food. This last visit yesterday everywhere just smelled like bonito flakes. The smell is awful to some and it carries over from table to table. I just hope that the bonito flakes doesnt become your staple for every dish and bar smell. In my opinion not the best change and the only complaint. Cheers!
Newly open bright space with great games! Theyve done a great job bringing The Detour to this new larger location right next door. They are still working out some kinks with the food, but the service was on point and the owner Sean made a point of talking to us and thanking us for feedback.
I was waiting for the bartender to pour a drink and she said something and I repeated the drink to her because I thought she was asking me what the drink order was. She then accused me of mansplaining to her. Uh, what? [look of confusion] OK, so now you get to use that term whenever the heck you feel like it? Hah.Besides that, about 10-20% of the arcade games were out of order. The drinks didnt seem all that good. But basically it comes down to bartenders treating their customers like jerks. Good job on the customer service.
Cool spot with fun arcade games. staff is a bit rude and food orders seem to come out wrong if you ask for modifications for diet, but overall worth visiting
Its a really cool place where folks from all walks of life can gather and have fun. I do wish they had more games. The staff is very polite, especially the Bartender named Vanessa.
Brewcade had been my all time favorite SF bar. However, The Detour raised the stakes even further. The additional space and designs are awesome! And I love that they added so many free and/or $0.25 games. You can still enjoy this amazing place without breaking the bankThe Detour still feels like OG SF and absolutely love it.I cant wait to come back again :)
Nice fun place but the games seem to be showing lots of wear and lack of being properly maintained. They really should take some effort and focus on that. Had possibilities but if this continues it wont be a destination.
Renamed place, offers a great selection of draft beers, cocktails and food, a fun place to be solo or in group, never cover, good customer service etc.
Mixed feelings about this place after the redesign. The fact that they started letting in children during day times kind of ruined my experience until they were kicked out at 6pm. I guess thats what you have to do to get more business and survive in the area. Beer selection is pretty low and cocktails are mediocre, but I always have fun at the brewcade. Ill give it a thumbs up for the fact that they have actually good food for a bar.
Unfortunately Im not as big of a fan since the redesign and expansion. Its harder to find games that are open since its two different areas, and the design and flow of the spaces are completely different. Theres less tap beer options, especially local, which were my favorite part. Now it seems to have a half dedicated to the food and bar, while the spaces that used to be special, like the massive magnetic letter wall, are covered by games despite having plenty of space elsewhere. I really liked Brewcade before, and I will continue to frequent it, but it feels a lot more boring and less unique since the renovation.
Really great layout. Very reasonable priced bar with friendly staff. Cost of games is not bad because you get rewards if youre pretty good. But if your pinball/shooting/ skills are unsolid due to lack of recent practice and/or a deprived junior high experience, your quarters go quick. Get more quarters then you think youll need.
I like how large it is after the remodel/revamp. New games and a proper liquor license adds much more to the existing fun.
Cant say enough good things about The Detour for parties and big groups! Sean and his staff were so welcoming and friendly, and they made everything easy. He also taught us to play Killer Queen, which was so much fun! Everyone had a good time, drinks and food were great, and the atmosphere was really relaxed and fun.
Fun bar with arcade games. I love the skeeball. Great location to go with a group.
Great service. Great drinks. Love this place.
Generally a really cool vibe catering toward a younger gay crowd (at least when we were there). Friendly staff and large venue. Several arcade machines ate quarters or were poorly maintained.
Great place to have beers and play games. Ambience is great and they have a great selection of beers. Staff was helpful and the good thing is that you can bring outside food. Nice atmosphere and great prices. Hospitality was nice and it was nice place for enjoying in group. It is always fun time here. I like the place and enjoyed a lot.
Great fun bar with friendly staff. And the games are great, perfect for us 80s boys to relive our youth, or introduce our kids to how arcades used to be when they were first invented. Only 2 missing for me were Galaxian and Asteroids
Such a drag! Used the be “brewcade” - small crowds, super smash bros and Mario kart every night. The best selection of draft beer in the city! Now it’s overpriced cocktails, only 4-5 beers on tap, and a more corporate bar environment...
This place will never disappoint you. The food is really tasty and the place is extremely hygienic. The Brewcade is the best place. The staff is amazingly helpful and cooperative. Great beer, great people! The space is large, casual, and fun.
Located in a modern condo building, Brewcade is a bar with arcade games. Sadly in the Castro, but not a gay bar. The bar serves only wine and beer, with a couple premade/previously frozen food options. The games are fun, but nothing too modern nor too iconic. The games fit the ok to decent category. Some seating when not playing games, but overall a small bar. Service was friendly. Slushy drink was ok but lacked flavor. Some games were broke.Would like to see some more food options, more events, and ability to sign up for game play.
The food is great, the cocktails are fantastic, and the games are inviting. This place is THE place to be when you want quality time at a bar/cade. 10/10, has become my regular spot for fun times.
An awesome place to watch sports (and eSports, go Shock!)
First Tuesday of every month is free play night. Super fun.
This barcade was about average in comparison to others Ive been to in the past. Has an excellent selection of beer, but the arcade cabinets leave a lot to be desired. There are really just a handful of them in here, and a few of the games I actually cared about playing didnt have fully operational buttons and sticks, making it practically pointless to spend time on.
Fun place to go old time video games and pinball machines they have food but not a good wine selection for a fun time and a few drinks I think you will enjoy
A great place for large group to hang out. Very spacious and with lots of arcade items to have fun
Nice venue. The food is pretty good and the staff is excellent
Good fun, love the old pinball machines!
Great spot
They always have the best available beer on tap. Great place if youre a beer nerd and a traditional nerd.
This was previously known as Brewcade, which was closed and then combined with the bar next door, and finally reopened as The Detour. Great place - hopping with Millennials. Now the part with games is dark, but the part with tables is light - its a big improvement! They have their own in-house restaurant, which I havent tried. Just keep your drink while you play as the staff is quite aggressive in picking up lonely drinks (even if they are half full).
Great video game bar! Very chill, lots of good games, lots of great beers, and excellent staff. Cant go wrong here! New place is much bigger and now has food.
Games are fun, the food is awful & overpriced.
Buck Hunt is the best. Wish they had a liquor license though.Good music, patrons are typically friendly and the staff is very nice.
If you like to hit the games and drink the night or the afternoon or the morning away, this is your place!
Such a fun bar. Lots of beers, friendly stuff. The arcade is fun, not expensive and the vibes are good. One of the best spots in the city!
Great bar, servers are inconsistent and kinda rude. Had several people claim to bar backs but serve drinks to others.
Good beers on tap. Rotated often and lots of local choices. Retro video games and pinball kept me happy many times.
Nice arcade games but so so food
It is one of my favorite places to bring friends in the castro
The place is spacious and the arcade atmosphere is very well done, its noisy but you can still sit down and enjoy a beer with friends. The pinball selection is great, and they have some classic shooters in okish shape, like Time Crisis. The beer selection is fine, the drinks are mostly premixed and not recommended. The food is run of the mill frozen but its ok.
Great fun. Brewcade has an excellent selection of beers on tap and numerous well maintained arcade games and pinball. I always have a good time at Brewcade :)
Great beer selection. Decent game selection. Some games had some defects, but on the other hand they had two separate killer queen games
Food is really good here. Available late in the night too!
Had a blast - lots of unique indie games to play with friends (and strangers)
I love Brewcade. Its the original of the 3 large arcade bar in SF. While smaller than the others, it has the best beer list and coziest environment. It also has console games to play at the bar!
Fun, welcoming bar. Staff are helpful, games were cheap, shockingly great selection of beers. Im not a huge arcade fan, but I found a lot of games I had to be peeled off of.
Play killer Queen. Get shut down and then feel like the last dodgeball pick. Go play some pac-man. Eat a beer. F3l good. Wonder why they havent expanded into the space next door yet. Think about life choices.
Fun place to play games! Great soft pretzels, nice staff. Can get really crowded but generally a good crowd of customers.
Its a bar. And an arcade. It delivers what it promises. Word to the wise: unlike a movie date which is well known to be terrible because you cant interact during the show, an arcade date isnt always better. Youre watching each other play video games. You have been warned.
Classic nostalgic arcade games in addition to good beer and food.
Awesome bar with classic arcade.
Super interesting video game/arcade centric bar. Lots of things to play, drinks and food offered as well.
Not bad but had better
Fun place! pretty good range of classic arcade games as well as a huge screen on the projector to play modern games like super smash brothers and Mario kart!Huge selection of drinks too. The only downside is that as far as food goes, theres only pretzels, corn nuts, and chips. But you can bring in outside food. Probably 3 or 4 tables with 4 or 5 chairs around them.Somewhat of a small place but still big enough to lose your friends to the classic arcade games!
Drinks are over the top expensive which is a shame because the arcade games and general vibe is super retro.
Very nice, gorgeous bar, lots of tables, super nice bartenders.
Cooooooool spot. Loved it
We had a good time. A little pool play little pinball ...yeah it was worth stopping in.
Fun bar, slowwwww service
First time there, most games 50cents and even some free video games and board games. Good beer, wished they had a least a stout beer.
A nice little bar in SF serving many types of beer from all over the world. I guess everyone can find one that he likes. And as far as I know they change the selection regularly. And the best thing: playing at the arcade cabinetes is even more fun when you had some beers.
Cute idea to mix arcade games and booze. Its fun to play around and drink a few beers. There is a seating area for those who just want to drink, or need a break from playing. Drinks are a little pricey, but it is a themed bar, so it is not totally unexpected. Good beer selection, so that is a plus. Solid place to grab a few friends and play around.
Love this spot. Great beer, cool games, and can get a wii to play. Really awesome.
