Its free inside de young museum. Many tourists do not know that. There is a ticket for the museum, not for this observation deck. You can see the most of SF from this deck on a clear day! Make sure to reach there before 4 oclock as it closes at 4:30 pm. They should keep it open in the night hours as well to see the city in night. Would have given 5 stars in that case.

Cool spot with a 360° view. Its best to come on a sunny day so you can actually see it, but its neat to watch the fog roll in, too. Of the 4 times Ive visited here, the tower was closed twice for reasons that were not apparent so I guess you just have to hope that it will be open when you want to check it out. The museum and tower are closed on Mondays as well. It would be cool if they could do something in conjunction with Cal Academys Night Life events and have some open hours after dark.

The Hamon Observation Tower offers a great place to sightsee most of San Francisco. Take a look at the city map and find where you live/stay.

Enter through the de Young Museum east (main?) entrance and head straight back to the elevators up to the 9th floor observation deck. From here you will get a great 360 view of San Francisco and part of the Bay for free!
