Really good service! The service is always quick and the food is really pretty good. The seats are comfy and the table trays are large to put your food on there. Its so convenient to push a button and a server comes to you to place your order, and they also deliver your order. I love this Place. Im always going back here!
Was here my first time today. I wanted to compare to AMC Metreon. What I can say from one time experience is that its a nice small and cozy movie theater! Especially the outside of auditorium areas where you can relax and chill before/after the movie. It has its advantages, but I cant say AMC Kabuki 8 is better then AMC Metreon. I will continue with Metreon theater but maybe visit Kabuki once in a while for diversity.
I went to this place a week ago to watch my favorite movie. I was really amazed at this place. I really like their reclining chairs because it was very big and comfy to sit on. The entire place surrounded by cute and elegant decoration. The snacks that I bought were very affordable and delicious as well. Next time, I will drop by at this place again to watch some indie or classic movie
Hands down the best theatre! I love the fact that they have so much culture brought in here. I have been here a total of 2 times and I am never let down. The first time I came to see none other than Charlie Chaplins Modern Times. I recently came back to see DIVINE in one of her crazy movies Female Trouble. At my second time here I got to experience a little more of the theatre. As an opener a man played the organ to many gay oldies like I could have danced all night.
The best movie experience ever! This cinema house is really on top when it comes to providing comfort and a better experience for moviegoers. Also, they have the best snacks available, and all of it was super tasty. I will definitely rate this place a five-star for providing me a great movie experience. WELL DONE!
Went out to the walk-in movie theater (which I rarely do unless it is something I need to see). So went to the AMC Kabuki 8 for the first time in over a decade and it was a weird experience to see how much higher the costs were for the snack counter. Paid $10 for mac-n-cheese with bacon bits for a topping. It was a few bites to tell you the truth, but did not want to spend $7 for a small bag of popcorn. The fountain drinks were starting around that price so passed on that. The chairs were comfortable and I sat around the wheelchair seating, since I am disabled and have to use a cane to be mobile. The screen was a smaller one since we were in a mall-like multi-theater. The sound was perfect. The restrooms were modern and clean. I would now make this my neighborhood theater and will go again soon.
Lovely theater. The seats are very comfortable, it is quite clean, the service is quite fast, and the food and drinks selection is impressively good. My only complaint is that the movie screens seem to be a bit smaller than many other theaters I have been to, but it is a very small complaint. Their comfortable seats make up for it and then some!
Great place with lots of shops and restaurants. Great friendly atmosphere for the entire family. If you have a sugar addiction like I have stay away from Its sugar because there you will find all the candy you heart desire and the staff is so friendly.
Nice theatre, but a bit pricey. The theaters were clean and comfortable, but not much food selection. They do serve drinks though!
This place used to be the best but now it’s pretty run down. And why can’t movie theaters have a decent bathroom? The bathrooms are similar to highway rest areas
Although the Kabuki is now an AMC chain theater, its still a good place to watch a movie. Its lost its Sundance art-house vibe, but its still a good option for seeing whatever is new. In comparison to a recent visit to the Theater Box in San Diego, the Kabukis film projection system is vastly superior. Unlike our recent San Diego experience where the screen was projected too large and the brightness suffered, the Kabuki video system is first rate.
Cool place, really big theater but if you sit on the balcony the screen might be a bit small for people who dont have great eyesight. Otherwise spacious area and searing with tables every 2 seats or so for food and drinks. Serves alcohol which I think is a great addition for a movie theater
This theater was near by to where we were doing some sightseeing, while out visiting San Francisco. I noticed the bar area immediately, it was upstairs from the entrance. It had huge lounge chairs/comfy love seats, and dim lighting. It looked different in comparison to other bars in AMC theaters I’ve been to. But the bar was pretty empty, to the point I thought they had it closed for the day. But what wasn’t empty was the concession area, this theater has a very small concession area, like very small. It doesn’t match the size of the theater, or the volume of guests to the theater. The line went all the way to the door to theater room 1, which was the theater we were viewing our movie. I feel they need to re-evaluate that space, because it doesn’t allow for a good flow of line traffic. Plus it blocks entrance from people coming in the theater, who are making their way up the escalator. The theater room itself was massive, with big comfy seats, and it was clean. I ama frequent movie goer, and frequent AMC theaters. Aside from the very cramped concession area, this is a nice theater.
A fun movie house, with a huge vertical atrium. It has a bar on three floors, so adults can take beer, wine or cocktails into movies. We were in auditorium 5, which is getting a little tired - the seats and decor are old.
I do wish it still didnt have ads like back in the day, but its still a nice theatre! Particularly front row balcony - lots of space for putting your feet up and table space every two seats. Conveniently located around lots of great food and shopping.
I think the AMC influence hasnt been great for this place. It was still fine, but I liked it better when it was independent. Now there are a lot more previews and commercials before the movie.
Best large theater in the City. They have nice places to sit and wait if you arrive early. Centrally located.
Not a bad place to see a show but not even close to the quality of Alamo, century, or metreon. Used to have more independent movies which made it worth visiting despite the average quality food/drinks, and facilities, but no more...blah
Visiting from out of town and wanted to see the Joker. We the got the big theater with the balcony. I thought the screen would have been bigger for the size of the theater but it was ok. The sound quality was good and seats where comfortable. The only thing people were on there phones and talking a bit. really annoying but overall was good
Nice theatre with cheap tickets early in the day. Seating is a bit tired.
They have amazing staff working there.I was having problems with my A-List ticket order. And a young lady that works there named Casey was great. She fixed the problem right away. She was very professional and very polite. I am very greatful for her help. I will definitely be going back there.
The seats are great, the ways to buy the tickets are convenient because there’s so many different ways to buy tickets. The beer and wine selection is great. They have cocktails too. The food is all carbs and sugar, regular movie theater fare. Customer service is all very friendly. Pro tip, there is an elevator in the lobby that goes to all floors and it has a glass encasing so the Vista is beautiful!
Nice theatre but it could use an updated look. Staff at concessions are nice and so are the ushers.
If you come here, plan to arrive about an hour early and grab a cocktail or non alcoholic beverage (full espresso bar) at The Social Study just around the corner. It is SO charming!
Good concessions and they get great movies, but last time I was there the toilets were overflowing and women’s bathroom was shut down, forcing the use of smaller bathroom upstairs. Seats are average and everything is definitely pricey, but overall decent place to see a movie.
Nice and cool AMC movie theater With a full service alcohol bar I went to watch Knives out what a spectacular movie
The nicest! I love this theater and it manages to stay fun and cool even though it could potentially feel like a mall (with multiple levels). In fact, there is a mall adjacent! This place could also potentially feel like a tourist trap, being in San Francisco, but it never does. In fact, it ends up feeling like an escape from all of that.
Watched Star Wars with my family we had a blast, very comfortable seats.
A little dated and confusing layout. But overall excellent selection of movies both ‘artisanal’ and mainstream. A lot slower compared to Metreon which is a plus! Same great and friendly staff that all AMC theaters have. Highly recommend getting AMC a-list (basically the new movie pass) it pays for itself even if only you see 2 movies a month! Plus exclusive access and features.
Cool spot in a cool part of town. Cinephiles might prefer other theaters for higher fidelity video and audio.
A comfortable chair is the only amenity. 30+ minutes of bad previews, $24.00 cocktails and a Walmart quality concession stand! Not recommended.
The nicest staff ever, especially with little ones. Bar is nice too, to get a beer while watching your movie
Very small screen, but very quaint kind of theater. Your TV at home is probably as large or larger in your vision.
Its got a nice small theater charm and offers many of the amenities youd expect from a larger one.
This theater has wide spacious seats in a small theater seating only 57 in an intimate setting that a rich friend may have in their mansion. The sound system was good and the experience itself overall quite a pleasant way to enjoy an evening of cinema. With stadium seating the sight lines were unimpeded and the reserved seating guaranteed choice seats. The other theatres seat more but each is still small enough to remain intimate.
Even this theater is sort of old and the sits are not that comfortable but it gives me a cozy feeling. It is like the old fashion theater and your can have some great food and drinks in it. I really like they prepared cocktails base on the current movies that was clever and surprised me.
So nice that the AMC crew found and returned a scarf I left behind - thanks Angel, that scarf was really special to me and I’m grateful you took the time to find it!!
Great movie theater with a restaurant and a bar inside!! Plus comfy chairs and great sound!! Highly recommended
Saw Queen & Slim here. Classic movie theater vibe, great snacks.
Lovely small theater. Even the front row seats are excellent for viewing the screen.
Comfy theater with good screens and speaker systems. I wasn’t able to hear anything from the next viewing room over, which makes a huge difference
This whole idea of reserving a seat before you enter is rediculous. Especially standing behind someone in line, while they hemm n haw about picking a seat; hurry up already. And you really cant gage it til you get inside. IF you actually want to be like Hollywood ! You would not let anyone enter once the show starts !! Ty.
Avengersssss!!! Great system for online ticket. Bought the ticket using app and just waltz in! Reserved seat is great. I hate when people doesnt realize they are supposed to sit at their seat number tho. Well.. theyll learn. Anyway, good theater. I love coming here at Kabuki
The biggest problem at the Kabuki is car break ins in the parking garage. You and the SFPD are helpless because the SF District Attorney, Chesa Boudin doesnt believe in prosecuting economic crimes of opportunity, ie. thefts.
An older theater with no recliner seats, but really nice atmosphere. Looks set up for live theater. Was a great experience. Its a dine-in theater and has a comfortable mini lounge area with couches on the first floor. Cozy, but not better than Metreon.
Good place to watch Sunday night movie but needs some renovations
This place hasnt been updated in 19 years. It used to be a great theater but totally sad now.
Nice theater with comfortable seating. No issues with food or drink. Id suggest ordering tickets online to get the seat you want as even the first showtime of the day can get a bit busy.
This is the place for your art and independent films. The theaters for these films can be almost laughably small but are whats needed to make them feasible. There are a couple big screens for the big films but Ive never seen one of those here...for that Im a Metreon guy. All that being said, its fine...its clean and not too much of an issue to get to.
Very pricey theatre. $15.00 per ticket average and perhaps $2.00 discount for seniors. Parking under the building was $7.00 for about two hours. The automated movie ticket vending machines in lobby are not user friendly and end up making the line move slowly. Helpful staff was an plus.Major complaint is that the sound in the high end theatre is way too loud. Are we all so dead that we want that? The seats are very comfortable and theatres are cozy. Be ready to spend $37.00 including parking for two tickets to the movies. Sheesh. Hope this helps.
Small, but adequate - just be careful about parking on the street late at night!
Nice chairs, drink and food holders. Process can be extreme
Real live theater turned movie theater. Great comfortable place to watch a movie, have a drink. Check out the balcony.
The lack of bathrooms is pretty annoying. The main theaters seats need to be updated.
It is such a clean, airy, well-designed space with every amenity you could hope for in a cinema complex. Good for dates, family outings, whatever...Good food all around you in one of my favorite SF hoods.
The people who work here are very cool. They are engaging, extremely efficient and hard working. That is my sole reason for the four stars. As for the theatre itself, the place needs to be renovated. If it werent for the staff keeping the place as tidy as possible i would say condemn the place. The seats are torn, old, uncomfortable and totally stink. The theatre stinks because of them. Please remodel this place especially theatre 6.
I love this movie theater! We always buy tickets on the AMC app so we rarely have any trouble with lines even if it is crowded. I love that you can select the exact seats you want for a movie even for $5 Tuesday movie nights. The snacks are good and they have a bar also with a decent selection. The seats are comfortable whether they are in the upstairs balcony for some theaters or just regular. The only real learning curve is realizing that BA15, for example, means Balcony level seat A15.
Decent theater, has a bar, but in need of refurbishment, no premium screens, and staff can be rude. I prefer the Metreon.
Par for the course in terms of pricing, so Ill leave that out of this review as movie theater pricing isnt particularly wide-ranging in the city.In terms of major theaters in the city, Kabuki exchanges some more modern amenities like reclining chairs and specialty formats (Dolby Cinema, IMAX, etc.), but it makes up for it with more independent/niche films. Kabuki does have assigned seating, a bar, and the newer Coke Freestyle machines, so its not completely dated. In addition, the Japanese-y ambiance is really refreshing compared to the standard movie theater decor.Overall, this is a solid theater in a good location, but lacks some of the amenities that moviegoers may be accustomed to today. If youre looking for that smaller release documentary or prestige film this may be your only option, but its a good one!
I haven’t been to the movies in so long and this was a really good experience coming back to it. Had a hotdog and a beer watching movie both were delicious.
We used to love coming here. It seems like it has gotten a little dated. Still like the fact that you can grab a drink and bring it into theater, but I prefer One Embarcadero and Alamo in the Mission to Kabuki.
This is a pretty good cinema, though its on the smaller side.+ plenty of food options, there is a tray area to set food down between seats+ balcony level seating so you dont have to crane your neck+ seat reservations, with seats clearly labeled- ticket check-in is inefficient, long lines at the front door- no recliners
My favorite theatre in SF. Cozy seats and theatres!
Everytime I visit I like the theater less. So much worse than metreon - whats event the point? I only come here if metreon isnt showing the movie or if metreon is closed ( like for dreamforce conference)
Very comfortable seating, view is good everywhere and its 10 minutes away
This movie theater needs a renovation. The bathrooms are limited. The seats are not comfortable. The theater number 4 that I was in has only one entrance and exit, which means people will walk pass a lot when they go to the bathroom. The ventilation system wasnt working well as well because it smelled like fried chicken the whole time.
Very great place with wonderfully thoughtful films - I love the Q & A sessions with the artists!! I hope you will enjoy too!! :)
Great s ew ating
I had a great experience at Kabuki. The theater is beautifully decorated with Japanese style decor. Its a smaller theater that never gets too busy. Its advisable to buy tickets online as they do sell out. On the ground floor is one theater and the ticket area. They have multiple electronic stations to buy or print tickets. Upstairs is the concession area, more theaters, and the bar. The concession area features typical movie fair like popcorn, soda, chips, etc. The full bar has cocktails, beer on tap, and wine. There is lots of seating in the bar area and is a great place to hang out before or after a movie. The drinks are reasonably priced and the service is great! You can now take drinks into any theater.I went before it was purchased by AMC. Its identically expect for some fo the independent touches. But what you gain with the AMC experience is consistent pricing, rewards, consistent experience, etc. Due to the smaller size and the bar, you still get an amazing local experience. Huge parking lot in the basement or on street meters. Next door are lots of restaurants in the Japantown Center. To those that are complaining about the AMC buy out. They are just complaining as they dont like chains or corporate companies, but want local experience at extremely cheap prices. Many business cannot survive in San Francisco due to the rent and labor cost. This is something we have to accept. AMC runs with less staff to save money, but its the correct amount of staff needed. No one uses real butter for the popcorn. Real butter is expensive, goes rancid, and must be kept warm. The seats are the same as they have always been. I wouldnt be surprised if AMC remodels soon with the new motorized recliner seats they have in all their other theaters.
The seats are a little sad and the theater has gone downhill since amc bought it but its not a bad place to see a matinee and grab sushi afterwards
Great Theater to watch movies, it has a variety of snacks, food and drinks, it also has a mini bar where you can order alcoholic beverages!
Great theater with big comfortable reclining seats. Important note they have assigned seating. Full bar and real food are available.
Nice theatres ! Reserved seating which can work to your benefit as long as you plan ahead of time. Nice movie theater bar you can get a cocktail, beer or wine for your show. They have the nice self serve soda machines where you can mix and match what flavors you want with what soda. If you are in theater 4 or 5 make sure you pee before the movie starts.. its a solid 1.5 min walk one way.
Bad experiences.on Monday we checked the schedule for the movie gemini man 12:30 show on Tuesday once arrived for the showing. Schedule had changed. so we sat and watched Adams family bording.the thing Im upset about was very nice out side about 75. degrees upon waiting for the flim to began someone turn on the air in the theater.sooo very cold my daughter experience running noise and became very we left very bad experience.
Kinda small, but fits right into the San Francisco vibe. It will always be my go to theater. No IMAX here.
Fun theatre, in Japan Town, which I highly recommend!
Very cool place to see a movie in Japan Town.
Decent theaters and concessions. the theaters vary in size and layout, some of them have nice seats and little tables, others are a little bit more bare Bones. can get wine upstairs and bring it into the theater. good movie deals here on Tuesday I believe
Still one of my favorite theaters in the city for its vestigial charm leftover from its independently-owned days. Great selection of indie films to complement to other two AMC theaters in town. Probably about time they updated their seats, however
I will never buy food, drink or alcohol here. I just love the location.
Good theater, and right next to the Japanese mall. Lots of food and dessert options in there, ranging from organic to panic. Good for those who dont bring food into theaters. ;) Im going to try to frequent the $5 Tuesdays here; its reason enough to join AMC Stubs.
One of the best theaters. They show less-shown films and offer beer. Win win!
Old school vibe, not my thing
Dont listen to scathing reviews, the Kabuki is a charming and friendly theater. The staff is helpful, kind, and do their jobs. Full bar with great drink selections. The bathrooms need a sink or two fixed, but the theaters are clean and there is ample room in each row. One of my favorite theaters in town!
Comfortable reserved seats with good screen views in Theater 5. Long line for ticket validation, even for those with tickets purchased in advance.
Second best theatre in the city after the Drafthouse
Good theater, but starting to show age and lacking maintenance occasionally.
A bit of a dilapidated structure, with a lot of ongoing construction. A little outdated compared to the updated ones with reclining chairs and more space for everyone. There was reserved seating, but regardless, some people were sitting in our seats.. Last comment would be that the screen size was pretty good! haha
Best and local theater if you live by it or around. Tickets are fairly high but average for what they are since its a theater and all. Good thing is that you can reserve seats, and theres even a bar at the top where you can bring drinks into your showing depending on the time you choose for the movie.Seats are good too, but too plush, not dirty and they clean regularly before and after each showing. The area is a bit on the ghetto but the entire area is slowly changing due to gentrification and more middle class families moving into the area improving the overall look and feel of the Fillmore.I have a long history with this theater since I grew up in the city and when this theater used to be called the Kabuki without the dine in sort of thing. Same and great theater just with now more modern amenities.
Good spot for a theatre where you choose your seats ahead of time so no need to arrive early for a good seat. Theres a bar and proximity to Japantown is nice. They run some films you cant find other places, including 70mm runs.
My first time at this theater. It is one of the older feel AMC theatres. Seats can pivot but definitely shows age. I prefer Metreon with its leather recliners and better environment.
Kabuki theater is great- whoever thought drinks and movies was such a great combination? At least in its entirety, Kabuki has kept to its roots, even after AMC purchased it. The seating here is really comfy, and the drinks also include rotations and local favorites that you might not find unless you are here in the Bay Area. I would recommend to come enjoy yourself in Japan town maybe with some ramen or korean bbq, then drop by for a show. I am glad overall that AMC has let Kabuki Theater have its own personality.
Rating so lowly because of everything AMC did to this place. Bad food selection. Worse drink selection. Its a shame that one of the best theaters in the Bay Area has been so thoroughly stripped of its character. If you dont know better, its serviceable, but what a shame that management seems uninterested in keeping this place special.
