The Polo Field has been my urban multi-tool for decades. I have used its dirt track for both running and contemplative walks. While San Francisco has a plethora of great walking routes, there is something uniquely meditative about walking around the Polo Field track. Maybe its the sweeping Vista or the lush grass or even the geese grazing on said grass? Whatever, its a great way to refresh the mind!

Nice bike track. Fairly smooth surface, approximately 0.6 mile loop, and not too busy. You might even get lucky and see a coyote like I did.PARENTS: This is a terrible place to teach your kid to ride a bike. People ride fast on this track and it can be dangerous if the proper etiquette isnt followed.

The polo field is kind of its own little oasis in Golden Gate Park, sunken into the ground with grass around, surrounded by trees. The paved track is good for a cycling workout. Running on the outer, hard-packed dirt track is also relaxing. Sometimes there are little kids on their bikes swerving about unpredictably. People also like to walk their dogs around the track. Saw a coyote hanging out on the grass hill one afternoon while there were people around.

Great size for many games and there are bathrooms on each side of the field. I participated in an Ultimate frisbee league here and the grass is well kept but sometimes muddy. I only wish there wasnt so much geese poop every where but it is a park. Bring a chair if you want to sit on the field.

Great place to go for a run, walk your dog, and enjoy the sun (when there is sun). Organized sports also held on the field. Theres a dirt track at the top while theres a pavement road closer to the field for bicyclists. Part of Outside Lands is also held here.

Iconic beautiful area. Known for its gardens museums Japanese tea garden Academy of Science. Can be pricey if not a member for museum. Check for FREE admissions days for nonmembers. Well worth the annual membership. Pays for itself in 2 visits. Many areas for long walks thruout the park. Garage parking convenient. Public transportation easy option.

From outside the field looks good, big open field with grass! But, if youre playing, there are so many gopher holes everywhere! Two weeks in a row I saw a player get injured by stepping on those holes.I know the debate about grass versus synthetic, you might get a disease someday or getting a broken foot for sure. Its really cold there, but there is parking available.

You can cycle on a track reserved for cyclists, walk your dog, use the obstacle course, or sit in the stands on one side of the field. Its also a popular spot for league soccer games for kids and adults. You can check out the horses in the stable, and sometimes they take them out for a walk on the track!

Great outdoor space thats often pretty empty. Nice dirt track for running or walking with a shaded outer loop if you prefer. The parking lot can get busy when the fields are in use but you can still park on middle drive and the track is rarely busy evenn on soccer days.

Nice spot to run or bike. They have an outside dirt track to jog around which is close to a mile around. The paved path is down on the field level and offers bikers a seamless track to spin it on. The fields themselves are used frequently and can be a little soggy and lumpy but theres tons of space. Good spot.

Golden Gate Park is funded by taxpayers, therefore Revenue generation for the polo fields- should not Trump the cycling track, therefore they need to put a crossover in for either cyclist to enter the track or Polo players to enter the field. Cyclists should not have to wait for the park who is once again funded by taxpayers to earn extra revenue on the Polo Fields. I am planning a trip to the city offices where I fully intend on addressing this situation anyone who wishes to band together! please find me on Facebook

They redid the track for cyclists. Fast and slow lane. The also patched some areas that were a little rough at high speeds. They have the schedule for soccer field on their sfparkrec site. Stands/benches are a little rough. The cycling track is closed anytime the soccer field is open. However the track is open when they water the fields, often leaving many parts of the track wet.. Which is unfortunate.

On January 14th, 1967 this was the site of the human be-in, the prelude to the famed summer of love and the psychedelic revolution. it was here on this non-descript field that thousands gathered in what would be the closest our country has come to a true cultural revolution.
