I’m not sure this is an art gallery for public viewing or more of a members only club? I and quite a few other people from different ethnic backgrounds and genders have gone in here-but all of us experienced hostility and almost anger from the same woman every time. When I tried to talk with her she responded as though she was annoyed that I was in there, let alone talking to her. She angrily asked me why I was in here. I told her I was interested in history and culture and it’s influences on art. She then went on to explain her anger towards other races and cultures of people who come in here to look at her shop. It seemed like she was trying make things as uncomfortable as possible so I would leave- even started to be rude. I didn’t do anything to anger her (except come in to the shop )... I was so confused by her anger and tension- I could only think to say “I’m so sorry your angry” and leave... I genuinely was interested in learning about the art and deep cultural history but it seemed she was angry that people outside of her culture were interested in the art? It wasn’t until later that I coincidentally met other people that had been there and experienced the same unnecessary projections and disdain. I came across enough people to wonder if this happens a lot, so I’m just sharing our experiences to prepare fellow lovers of art, root cultures, and history. Hoping it’s not still the situation...
