I always have a lot of fun at the Art walk in DTLA .Especially in spring/ summer :)Me & my friend loves to get a henna tattoo ( I forgot girl name who does henna ) and just walk around and enjoy little shopping . Take Uber to get there because its DTLA. especially when they having a event like this, you cant find a parking.
An amazing place to visit for anyone with an appreciation of photography. Second time I visit. Great staff, impressive location, impeccable curatorial display. One of a kind, don’t miss it when in San Francisco.
Excellent photography space, booking in advance is required, I did so on the day, space allows for contemplation and would allow an hour to view current collections. High quality documentary, portrait, photo journalism, filmic and a refreshing find to a while away a few hours under the bay bridge. Highly recommend
My place of zen, and a wonderful gift to San Francisco. I visit when I’m in the Bay Area every few months. It’s an amazing collection of work.
Beautiful Gallery! A pleasure to walk around the pristine space, deeply respectful of the art it displays. Each piece is given the space it needs for the viewer to intimately relate to it without the nagging distraction of a descriptive tag, without the clutter of too many of people fighting to view it.
Nice place nice place. Good for learn, think, and have such a beautiful view to take good pictures...there is a museum of photography... you should make a research for learn more about pier 24 and visit the place...
Liked that docents were walking around and you can ask any questions. The museum is free. Should book you visit on website. Small, spent about 1 hour.
Great facility. You need reservations. No charge. Several rooms with photographic art. Each room has a different artist. Some are political most are not.
An incredible collection that has been beautifully curated and lit.
Fascinating gallery housing beautiful photography collections. It is free by appointment, and definitely worth it! The images are displayed blankly, however there is the option to purchase a booklet guide that gives credit to the photographers and their images. Overall a great place to marvel at for a while as the sounds of the Bay Bridge echo overhead.
Such an awesome experience! The docents attend to ones every question and query. You must make reservations, however. And one should be aware that reservations often need to be made a few WEEKS ahead of time, so plan far ahead. This isnt the type of place you just drop in at. Its special.
Just go! You wont regret and it will probably be the most fantastic photo gallery youve ever been too. Bookings only.EDIT: be respectful of the time you book. A senior staff member gave me quite an attitude because I arrived 20 minutes after the scheduled time - despite the rain pouring down outside and the fact that the gallery was relatively empty. It was my third visit then. Havent returned since.
Such a stylish and beautiful museum! Also, free!
Hidden Gem, wonderful photographer from private collection in fabulous space. Limited reservations but free.. Worth planning ahead and visiting
A must see. Free. Beautiful. Moving. Engaging. Peaceful. Did I mention, FREE?
Simply beautiful. The collections are always worth the visit and the building provides a space for thought and excitement. Right by the water and under the Bay Bridge, you cant miss it!
Pier 24 is a beautiful gift to SF from Andrew Pilara. Dont miss this exhibition -- its breathtaking. Amazingly, admission is free!
Excellent space to enjoy curated collections of photography. Guidebooks are provided so that information about each photograph doesnt detract from the aesthetic experience.Negatives: collections change infrequently, and the gallery is only open during regular working hours.
What a gem. Such a beautiful free muesm that is so respectful to the arts. Make sure to make an appointment.
Super...most interesting...looking forward to the second half
One of the best galleries in the US. Its reservation only, so you never feel like youre in a mob. And the curators are top-notch, so youre guaranteed to see something interesting no matter when you come. They produce good catalogs for each show so theres always a chance to learn something new about the artists and their work. Finally, the location is great - right on the waterfront. You can easily find a great place for lunch or dinner nearby.
This is a compact gallery featuring work from a diverse group of US photographers. Very interesting And admission is always free if you pre-register.
Nice, well maintained spot though kinda pretentious. you have to make an appointment to go
Beautiful photography. Worth the time spent.
Fascinating photography exhibition, changes roughly every 18 months, free to attend but advance reservations are required through the website.
Great food and friendly service.
Interesting collection of photos for this current exhibit. I like all the seperate rooms for each photographer. Im still undecided on the book verses wall cards for the photos. I love the space.
This is a San Francisco gem. A stunning, massive photo museum that takes up all of Pier 24. It is the love child of an individual who grew a large well curated collection, rented the building to keep his collection in and decided it could be used to share his love of photography. They mount a new exhibit each year. Entrance is free. 20 people max have the place to themselves for a two how visit, so it feels like you are there alone. Reservations made online are a must. You gotta go!
Its really nice and clean
Great place to see unusual and interesting photography exhibits. Not far from the ferry building and right next to the Bay Bridge. Not open for months between exhibits. Attendance by online reservation only. Free. I think theyre now preparing their sixth or seventh exhibit (August 2016). I havent missed one yet. Have lunch at the ferry building. See the exhibit. Then take your own inspired photographs on San Franciscos captivating waterfront.
Very nice photo gallery. The exhibit includes quite a few photographers. It is will laid out and includes a guide book to help identify photos and their authors.
Incredible exhibit on the day we went. I hope to visit again soon.
A wonderful collection!
Unique photo gallery, they have a simple online appointment process for viewing which is free. Weekdays only and last appointment is at 3:15 PM, so that needs some planning. The old state belt railroad tracks are visible on the right of the entrance where you announce yourself so they buzz you in. The tracks are from another era and it was incredible just imaging a train on those almost dilapidated tracks.Smallish gallery and armed with a map it should not take more than 45 mins to go through all the exhibit rooms.
The current exhibit is awesome. The gallery is also lovely.
Great art in a beautiful gallery. Definitely worth a visit!
Wonderful exhibit. If you love photography, youll love Pier 24.
On of the best photography galleries in SF.
The most contemplative art space I have ever come across
Pier 24 has a great collection and the exhibition is well displayed- nevertheless as a photographer myself I was seriously disappointed over treatment at the reception as well at the telephone when I was inquiring to speak to the director for a moment. I felt it was unprofessional and extremely rude.
One of the best photo galleries Ive ever experienced, a true San Francisco gem. If youre in photography, this place is a must. Make sure to plan ahead, the gallery is free but you have to have a reservation.
Visit a great photo shoot here. Fairly small gallery bit powerful and easy to understand layout
This place is so under the radar. Most San Franciscans dont even know about it, although Pier 24 does photography shows that are the equal of SFMOMA and MOMA NYC. Here Ive seen shows including Dian Arbus, Nan Goldin, Richard Avedon; and they also champion new works by up and coming photographers that are nearly always fantastic and high-caliber work. By appointment only! (Reserve a time online.)
Really impressed...will visit again!
This is quite possibly the best kept secret related to art in the entire Bay Area. A unique, tucked away location underneath the bay bridge, this is actually the largest exhibition space for photography in the entire world. Whodda thunk? A small nonprofit runs the space and limits the shows to generally only per calendar year. The work is hung free from wall text so that you engage with the pieces in a much more direct, personal way. The care they take is evident in all of what they do, from the publication of their exhibit catalog, to the relationship of each room to its adjacent rooms, to the lighting levels... you wont find another space like this anywhere in the world. Oh, and did I mention that its FREE? The mind boggles.
Nice space, great work
This gallery houses currently a exhibition called COLLECTED. They have combined photos from different collection from people based in the Bay Area. I enjoyed the exhibition and the information given within a book guide.
Great gallery, quiet, private, very few visitors at once due to the privacy of the location. Reservation needed I believe.
Excellent curation of modern photography.
Great show and its free.
Stunning Photography and incredibly knowledgeable staff.
Stimulating hidden gem
Great view
One of the best photography gallery in SF!
You need to make an APPOINTMENT IN ADVANCE! (Giving 3 stars as we did not know this so werent able to see the exhibition...)
