This aquarium is on Pier 39 in San Francisco. Masks are required at all times during the visit at this moment. Tickets do need to be purchased ahead of time on their website in order for guaranteed entry. I prepurchased mine & went on a Sat at about 11am & when I got there they had a sign that they were sold out for the day. There were others that were in the wait line waiting to take spots from the no shows. The aquarium is not big like the one in Monterey, in my opinion I categorize it more for a 2yr old to 6yr old aquarium, which is why the tickets are not as expensive. It is a 2 story aquarium with the most unique and jaw dropping tunnel tanks located on the 1st floor. Also at the very end next to the otter exhibit there is a time scheduled porcupine show. The keepers bring this huge porcupine into a closed room & talk about it. We werent allowed to get any closer as we did need to stay apart due to the virus, but worth it as youre only about 10ft away from where they have it. They have the gift shop at the very end & a balcony which you can go to and take pics. Overall really neat experience.
Love this place! When we went there were very few people due to the pandemic and we were able to really take our time. The best part is in the underwater tunnel with shark and large fish swimming above and to the side of us. Great place to be with family
It was incredible experience for me and with my friends. I do really recommend turists, just go hang out yourself or your friends and family. Takes awesome photos to have good memories. If you interested to explore San Francisco even though if youre live there.
This is a quaint aquarium, tucked away on the strip of the pier in San Francisco. I went on a weekday and there was a gentle flow of families, but not overcrowded. There was an underwater glass tunnel, interactive marine life demonstrations and a cool projector animation. Underrated though, and what I loved most was the view of the harbour outside of the aquarium; its just breathtaking! All in all, it was a great family trip.
Pretty cute, a little boring w/ the touch attractions closed. Not a lot, but the sea otter made the whole trip. Little dude was doing flips in the water and running around.
I had originally scored a 2 but decided on a 3 because it might be exciting for people who don’t have the accessibility to other aquariums. We took just under 45 minutes to tour the whole aquarium. Thankfully the tickets were discounted, a full price ticket is not worth the experience. The “shark” tank has only a few small sharks, loads of rays which are fun to see, and some other varieties of fish. There is another walk through tank which was fun as well. Besides that there are small exhibits scattered here and there and an otter exhibit at the end which looked new and well kept.COVID protocols meant a everyone wore a mask and there were limited numbers of people allowed in at a time. This is a saving grace as there is not enough to look at or space to hold more people if it was a busy weekend day.If you have the opportunity to go to the CA Academy of Sciences, pay a little more for the ticket and go there and get way more bang for your buck. Monterey Bay Aquarium (when they open) is even better. Our two year old enjoyed it but we will not be back.
It’s not the largest aquarium but nice that the city has one. The otters are definitely the highlight of the show but I was also really surprised with the size of the one octopus they had in there. The tunnel part of the aquarium is also great fun to do.
Smaller aquarium but nicely put together. Pier 39 is very touristy, not my cup of tea. but if you like aquariums, go to the aquarium.
First time ever coming here was very nice
Visited on a Sunday at 12pm during Covid. Not crowded with the scheduled tickets.Lots of dislpays and a large underwater walkthrough experience. Sea otter and squirrels as well. The sea otter display was not crowded and easy to view compared the packed Monterey Bay Acq. Very easy to spend 1.5 here. Youll be out in 30 min if you walk fast.
Loved all the sea creatures they had. They need more turtles though :/
A small little aquarium tucked into the bustling life of San Francisco. I went here about 2-3 times during my time in the Bay Area in 2016 and always enjoyed the visits. Cool underwater exhibit as well! For more photos, follow my Instigram: rahsphotos
A lot smaller than I thought. Not worth the price.
Had a great time here with the whole family! Underwater tunnel was amazing.
Very tiny. Decent social distancing in place. They also keep doors open altho aquarium is labyrinthine enough that it doesnt help much! Very awesome walkthrough tunnel on ground floor
I love the tunnel aquarium and there are some animals you can see too..its a good place outside to walk and have fun with kids..
Absolutely one of my favorite places in San Francisco. I took my 4 year old son and he was amazed at all of the sea creatures, especially a sea bass that was bigger than he was. 10/10
After the big underwater path we thought that It had only began but literally that was it. We have been to every aquarium we ever had a chance to and that’s over 10 everywhere we travel in Europe it was disappointing. Too small for the amount of money you need to pay and you would think that it will be more to see in a aquarium on the Pacific Ocean but no. Thankfully we did take out time looking at everything and it did last 45 min. We could have done it in less than 30 easily.
This place was great. My son was dying to come here. $75 for my wife 2 kids and I. Not sure how long that deal is going on for but it was totally worth it. For the first time I saw a Jellyfish in person. Giftshop is nice as well. Recommend coming here with your family.
Loved this place, looking at different types and sizes of fish. Some were colorful, others with stripes and also sharks, jellyfish, sting ray, turtles. There were also otters, lizards, snakes and frogs. The area for the fish was like wall to wall glass and ceiling like big aquarium. You could see fish, sharks and stingrays, etc swimming all around and overhead. It was awesome! They have a gift shop too. Outside you can see the harbor and lots of boats, awesome views all around.
Beautiful and a great place to spend some time! 1st time here and lots to explore and look at
I must say the San Fran aquarium has to be in the top 3 in the USthere are so many neat fishes and sea animals amongst there collection its breath taking. I was just beside myself from start to finish. And there jelly fish aquarium is just to a whole other level. You truly could get lost all afternoon in this place. I think I was the biggest kid of them all. Its a MUST VISIT when your in the bay area
It was truly a magical experience! They are doing a great work and the staff are extremely friendly. I also like the fact that the tickets are valid all day long and you can walk in and out. In terms of conservation work, their talks are truly informative and beneficial to sensitize people of the threats to wildlife.
Really liked it! beautiful fish. only thing is that i didnt like how small of a space the otters had to swim. should consider expanding the swimming space. i loved the stingrays! they were eating the algae on the wall and one of them was even poking his head out of the water! also loved the tunnel we saw tons of cool sharks, fish, plants, and we saw the divers feeding the fish and that was pretty cool. overall i had a great time. only took an hour or so because the aquarium isnt huge but is a really nice and fun thing to do when you are in the bay! also i loved the fact that 85% of the funds go to helping the ocean and rehabilitation. wouldve given it 4.5 if i could
Beautiful place definitely has animals that you never seen before very healthy animals and respectful
Took the behind the scenes tour. The tour was most definitely 5 stars, seeing the behind the scenes of this aquarium really puts into scope the amount of work aquariums have to do to maintain a quality environment for the sea creatures. The aquarium its self, however is mediocre at best, and why I gave it a 4 overall. Note- behind the scenes cost an extra amount.
You need to go here, I loved seeing different kinds of fishes and the whole atmosphere was fun. I was with a scuber diver so I got the lecture of what was what. Lol if you got kids you need to take them here. Absolutely lovely.
It feels amazing seeing those beautiful aquatic animals. I was able to witness their movements and habitats.
Entertaining and educational. Wish there were more exhibits because it went by rather quickly for the price. Location is great because there are plenty of things to do and see within walking distance. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Amazing place. I went in at 5pm and they closes at 6pm.Personally, i dont like to rush my museum visits so 1 hour wasnt sufficientI didnt get to interact with the otters at the end and that is rly a pity.I think set aside about 1 to 1.5hrs shld be more than sufficient to cover everything in the aquarium
Small aquarium with 2 tunnels. Takes less than 2 hours to see full. They have some big sharks with cool views from the tunnel. The touch pools are a good addition for kids.
Located at PIER 39. It was a thrilling experience especially at the tunnel. Watching the sharks and the Stingrays.Another exciting view is the schoaling and schooling of fish.it is not a rush in rush. Give at least an 1hour to explore the aquarium.
One of the best aquariums weve been to. So many exhibits which were set up so well for viewing, you really got to see a lot. The sharks of alcatraz section was awesome, loved being in the tunnel with all the fish and sharks swimming above and around you.
Cute little aquarium right at the touristy Pier 39. Its not as large as the one at Monterey Bay but has plenty of nice exhibits, especially the underwater tunnels (which was packed with Sharks, Rays and all kinds of fish). Kids will have a great time here - esp with petting the Sting Rays, Little Turtle. Otter and other exhibits.
Beautiful Sea Jellies, loved the underwater tunnel with the Giant Sea Bass, it was fun to see the otters eat their lunch, and they even had a ground squirrel!
Great time to spend my day here. I had so much fun and excitement.
I learned from the anchovies tank Sign. No small fish is a big uh oh for Big Fish.
Love those beautiful aquatic animals. I was able to witness their movements and habitat.
This aquarium is incredible!! The people who work there are passionate about marine life and knowledgeable about pretty much everything. Its beautiful downstairs, they have a ton of events through the day like baby Ray feeding and feeding in the tubes downstairs. I spent way too long there, but it was so much fun!
Nice aquarium, short walk from parking lots and plenty to do at peir 39.
Super fun! While the aquarium seems small at first, the tour seems well worth it, especially if you can catch one of the feeding times. Dont miss the chance to take pictures of the jellies, theyre gorgeous. The staff is super attentive and knowledgeable. The otters are adorable too...
Fantastic place. I was able to captured on those beautiful aquatic creatures.
One of the best aquariums with a large variety of sea animals
Good activity on the pier especially with kids. The tour lasts roughly an hour.
The aquarium was cool. It is really neat walking under all the glass walk ways. We also got to watch them feed the 7 Gill sharks. It was a spectacular treat. The aquarium itself was kind of small but it had nice displays that seemed to be well kept.
Frankly way overpriced at $30 given its size. Otters are amazing, however
The otters were awesome but overall it was way too expensive for what was there
Great experience just didnt know that it was so short and should have went through slower
Must do the behind the scenes!!! I am a huge fan of aquariums, this one is smaller, it takes about an hour to get through. The space is clean, the staff is amazing. The display are well kept and the fish are in good health. I went first thing in the morning and had the place to mysf which was amazing. I sat and watched the others play for quite a while. They were curious about me sitting there as well. They have a touch tank to feel a small shark, stingrays and then some starfish and other tropical fish. Again the behind the scenes made my day. We had a small group of 3 on the tour and we got to see how they feed 22,000 fish. Wild!!! Then...We got to see the eggs and hold a baby shark pouch and a ray. We got to see special tanks not on display yet as well. More....then we walked above the large tanks and got to look over the shark and ray tank which was above the tunnels. It was a great experience and on point for the price for the size of the aquarium.
Bit pricey. Ideally could view this for an hour or even half an hour. I personally love aquariums so really loved it this place.
This is a SUPER fun place to visit for the whole family. The exhibits are appealing to babies and adults alike and the glass underwater tunnels with the animals swimming around you is more than memorable. The only downfall is that its pretty pricey and the whole experience start to finish only took about 30 min.I highly recommend going on a weekday if you can, the crowds on the weekends can be a bit overwhelming - especially if you are using a stroller or wagon. Its still doable, just far more work and a lot more careful maneuvering to avoid colliding with near by folks.
This aquarium clearly benefits from its location adjacent to Pier 39. The main zones are usually located on the underground (tunnel) and the upper floor (laboratory with staffs). The size of aquarium is too small comparing to how much they charge me. Just 20-25 mins, I am sure that you will see all things around there. I may expect too much but for kids and animal lovers are really recommended.
I love aquariums. This one certainly has its pros...and its cons. But its a wonderful little aquarium that offers an underwater tunnel and interactions with some of the animals. Id mainly go for the river otters.
Fabulous, well maintainedAnd the display was mesmerizing
It was an incredible experience, since we lived together as a family and were able to obtain a very good knowledge about some species. In addition, we had interaction with the species.recommended!
Great little aquarium. My favorite parts were touching sting Rays and the underwater tunnel walks.
Didnt really go here I was just near and people only read reviews of their one Stars so sorry to the business
Its a nice aquarium, albeit a bit truncated for covid reasons.
This place is great, but its a bit pricey compared to other similar places
Awesome fish and Chips
$29, $21 if your lucky. Small.short. exhibit
The Aquarium of the Bay is a densely packed, well designed assortment of living marine animals, mainly fish and invertebrates that makes a very informative excursion for visitors to Pier 39 on San Francisco’s Embarcadero. While not huge, it is certainly packed with interesting and attractive exhibits. My granddaughter was enthralled.
Located right in pier 39! If you go on sat you can watch the divers feed the sharks in the morning! Highly recommended! Almost off of profits go back to reserving the ocean!
It might small but beautiful and wonderful place...u can see underwater life and also u can get fresh air and look view of bay area before u go inside
Good bang for your buck compared to other aquariums in the bay area. It was nice to be able to enjoy the pier after. There are many good places to eat nearby. Not that large of an aquarium overall.
Me and a co worker went there on an off day in between conferences. Really cool to see the sharks and huge (and small) fish of the Bay Area. The sharks and stingrays were cool to get so close in the tunnel. It was informational, but quite small. But the fun facts were fun enough. (Compared to other aquariums I’ve been to around the world). A really cool place for children. They even have some snakes and turtles on display. It’s a good time, but probably better with kids, and a little outdated on the experience part. The otter was very lively.
Well worth the visit if you are ever in the SF area, the underwater tunnels are mesmerizing! There are 2 underwater tunnel areas, one for smaller fish and another for the sharks and bigger fish. The tickets were not cheap ($30 per adult) but they included a free Madame Tussauds ticket (1 free ticket for every aquarium ticket), so the cost was definitely worth it! I dont think I would go to the wax museum again, but would definitely go back to the aquarium if the tickets are cheaper .
Small but exciting. Great staff..Remember. Ticket is for a full dayYou can enter and leave many times.Great 2 or 3 package deals(Aquarium/rocket boat/sunset cruises)at the ticket offices out side.
Too expensive for so few animals. It is more geared to small children. I have seen more amazing aquariums for less all over the US
This is an excellent place to visit! They have speakers come out and talk about specific exhibits throughout the day, and is in general a great place for solo or group/family outings. The tunnels really help differentiate it from many other aquariums, and I would recommend visiting for just that feature alone. The aquarium is decently sized, well-kept, and have a wide variety of aquatic animals to see.Note: They do have a modest student discount.
It was a wonderful moment for everybody who visits here.
It was smaller than what I was use to, but the tube was cool.
The aquarium was a fantastic time. They had a lot of different exhibits and was just the right length. Not too long to see everything but felt like we had a full experience. The educational staff that were giving show and tells and demonstrations were great. We got to even touch some see life which was a nice experience. Price was very fair as well. Learned so much. Thank you!
Awesome though, its close during pandemic
Great for familys very helpful and friendly staff
Great place for the family or just on your own as I did. The entire fishermans wharf is an excellent way to spend a day. Just park and walk. You will not be disappointed with all there is to do.
Fun place for family. 2 hours of fun
Love this place. Everyone whoever come this site please visit at least one time in life. You will see incredible experience.
Fun for the whole family, I have a 7, 9, 11 and 15 year old and everybody had fun!
Could of been better but I still liked it
The aquarium was really nice experience...I went with my daughter, boyfriend and hes sister and daughter and man...we enjoyed it...
The aquarium is small, but Im giving it 5 because of the behind the scenes tour. Thats definitely a good value and you get to see some really cool things and learn a lot about how the aquarium works. When I went, tickets were much cheaper if you go before 11am. You can also just do the tour without paying for admission, which may appeal to some.
Standard aquariumStaff was friendly and willing to answer any questionsBeware of tourists who don’t know what they’re doingExhibits were really cool and informativeMy favorite part was the jellyfishSpent a little under an hour here
I suppose my expectations were high given the aquarium is on the bay. The value for the admission price is lacking, but I suppose tourists will pay anything really. The best exhibit in my opinion are the otters. My kids had a lot of fun interacting with them as the otters played and swam. If you have the ability, the Denver Aquarium in Denver, Colorado is far better in every way!
Really fun! I enjoyed seeing each exhibit.
Super fun, loved seeing all of the various creatures
This is a pretty nice aquarium it is probably smaller than what most people are used to if they have an aquarium in there City but it is still very nice it is multiple level and majority of the aquarium is the going through a tunnel which is really cool. The touch pools were surprisingly underwhelming because there were only four animals that you could touch and the water was pretty deep so you couldnt really reach them if they werent directly under you.
This was kind of disappointing. I love the tunnel aquarium attraction but Monterey Bay Aquarium is bigger and has more attractions. This one is fun to go but it definitely did not live up to my expectations.
Really cool and fun place for friends.
Really great place to explore here and see the Marine life, my family had a really great experience seeing all the fish and we even got to touch a baby stingray, it was so playful
Lovely small Aquarium, we did it with our city pass, well worth a visit, very enjoyable.
It’s a nice little aquarium near the decks. At first it seems really small and like it’s not going to be worth it but one you go in and explore all the levels you seem to like it more. At the very end you get to see (a) really playful and cute otter/s. THE CUTEST THING EVERRRR. a really nice place to go to
I really love the collection of marine life they have over here. I came on a day when theres not much tourists and you can walk around the place without problem. The staffs are very accomodating and nice.
Aquarium was fine, just small. Touch pool wasnt so user friendly and the couldnt see much of the sea otters since they were perched on a rock almost out of plain sight. Just feel like there was too many gift shops and not enough attractions. We also paid $60 for two when we though t it was around $20, think we got railroaded into buying package tickets with the wax museum. Well come back next week for that I guess.
Small aquarium, but fun with playing with the sea otters, touching the bat rays and other denizens of the sea available. The tunnels are cool and if you get it during feeding time, the sharks and rays are quick moving.
This is a small, easy to navigate and hands--on aquarium. Love the tunnel and the giant sea bass were especially delightful! Dont forget to walk to the end of 39 to hear the sea lions barking!
