Very interesting museum/church that holds a treasure trove of artifacts and original art. Its easy to lose yourself in all the WWI, WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War items and information. We visited the venue for a fun Sunday evening swing dance event with a full orchestra and two singers; nice hardwood floor for dancing. Bathrooms and drinking fountain on the premises.
Quick facts:Size: SmallPrice: $5 (Adults)Est. Time in Museum: 30 - 45 minutesRecommended for: History Buffs, AdultsExhibits focus primarily on individual stories of veterans by showcasing stories and artifacts of their time in service rather than an overall history lesson of certain wars or battles. When I went in October 2018 they had a special Korean War exhibit recreating a typical foxhole and some actual war artifacts from the Chinese army. There was a section dedicated to women in the military in the back and a section discussing the military history of balboa park during World War 1. Although exhibits do change throughout the year. The rest of the museum focuses on stories of individual veterans of wars from World War 1 to the present. There are some unique and unusual artifacts that even those interested in military history have probably never seen or heard of before. Only recommended for those with a strong interest in military history otherwise the casual museum patron might not find it particularly interesting. But since the entrance fee is only $5, I would still recommend it for a visit
I came here for the first time for a photoshoot and it was amazing. A beautiful garden area all around and great lighting for photos.
Veterans were available to speak to my children and share stories. They offered a scavenger hunt my kids enjoyed.
Beautifully presentation the awareness of the contributions made by U.S. veterans.
Excellent venue for historical events for military buffs, veterans and students. Used to be a religious setting but all the mosaics have been kept. Different military uniforms, memorabilia and weapons can be viewed.
Wow! What a Great tribute to all of our veterans. Thanks for such a great experience. We will be back soon
Very emotional. Everyone and specially younger generations should go and pay attention to the reality of war horrors.
Great museum and a fitting tribute to veterans.
Great museum. No one shouldnt HAWK WHEN VIBITING THE MUSEUM, ESPecially the Vietnam display.
It was a nice place. I learned many things about different wars and the people involved. Its not very big, but there a lot of information!
Very nice!
All things ww2. Nice gift shop. Great speakers.
Excellent place to dance when you can. At other times, worth a single visit if you have boys in the family.
Ive only been here for commissionings but this looks like it is small but still packs alot of history.
The dedication and hard work of the veterans working at the museum in Balboa Park shows itself everywhere. Veteran volunteers give their hearts and souls to remind us the reason why our country is so great and to help us never forget the price we continue to pay for our freedom. A definite must visit with the kids.
Its good place to take your children to learn about military history.
Nice museum!
Free admissions. Interesting display
Nice little museum, covers mostly the ww1 thru the current conflicts.
Lots of military history. Old facility but very clean. Lots of parking
A historical treasure providing Rich information about the sacrifices individuals made for our precious freedom
Very interesting experience. Thank you.
This isnt a review for the actual museum. I havent had the time to get inside and look around. The memorial for the B-24 Liberator which was created here in San Diego is always a favorite. It isnt to crowded and has a nice grass section with shade to lay under. The unique thing about this memorial is the names of the many Crew that flew the Liberator are engraved around the coin pond. Very unique to read through all the names and get a unique sense of World War 2 history.
The gentlemen that greeted us was very nice and informative. However the two younger workers were standing around blocking the entrance to one of the rooms even though it was open. They were too busy having a conversation about how the military isnt worth anything.
It is a small museum but its full of history and most importantly great stories and items from our veterans. I learned a lot of things and even learned of military events that I hadnt even heard of in history books.
Being a veteran brings joy and honor to have served the country that I love, and to see men and women who have fought for the United States of America and to see the history of how we have come so far. Thee strength of men and women coming together regardless of who we are and working as a team side-by-side, brings joy like no other, that I only wish it would stay with me 24 hours a day. Our country, the United States of America, needs strong courageous people to come forward and truly fight for our country. The Veterans Museum brings every piece of military branch to the view of those who have no idea about what the military has done is doing and how far we have come. It is a great place full of wonderful history of strength, courage, sadness, depression, and wonderful people that have made life changing experiences happen during military service time. Wartime is not easy, and the Veterans Museum is a way to show how courageous people have been serving in thee United States of America. The Veterans Museum should be recognized more for What it is to truly stand up and want to protect your country. I love the place. Once a month, Im there! Hope to meet you. Dont be shy about speaking, Thats how friends are made.
Good bit of history and a beautiful chapel. We had a great ceremony.
Absolutely inspiring! It was founded by veterans and all its artifacts were donated. As they received more items, they decided to make display cases and eventually reached where they are now. They have artifacts from many wars all the way from WW1 to todays conflicts.
Check this place out when your in the area. History and so much more
Lots of history there, good artifacts. Friendly people there and beautiful walls.
The museum is located on a hill so you may overlook San Diego. If you are in the area and have 2 free hours I highly recommend visiting.
Great little hidden gem across the street from Balboa Park. Its a little sad, but its a great tribute to our veterans. A solemn reminder that freedom is not free. I highly recommend it.
Very interesting to see all that is there.
A special place! Theyve helped me with my ceremony last minute. Im great full for their help, it was amazing.
Great time for my husband, myself and our 4 year old. Wonderful illustrations, relics and timelines. Heartwrenching writings, pieces of history and memories of our American heroes. Great place for all ages to learn, respect and appreciate our military vets and active duty. And to understand what others gave their lives for: our freedom.
Great women in military display
I really enjoyed my visit
I am personal friends with the manager of the place and he is a great guy. The place is full of donated artifacts and it is full of history
Lots to see and lessen. Definitely an underappreciated gem.
You need to see what have been sacrificed..humbled
We loved this place. It was an honor to learn more about the men and women who served our country in the various branches of the military.
This was the best tour I have ever been on. The stories and the passion were amazing! The art work is wonderful, and each piece is full of history, stories, and emotion. We found this place by accident, and cannot wait to take others!
A very respectful treatment of the Vietnam experience. I didnt last but a few seconds because it opened up wounds I didnt know I had.
My Downbeat big band performs every 2nd and 4th Sunday evening. I love to review a different section each time to read all the articles, artifacts and photographs. You get a feeling of being transported back to 1940 era.
Very interesting place to visit!
This is a fun time with the kids to see some military stuff and talk to some vets there also.
Its a nice place to take your kids so they can learn about things that happened and who helped and fought for our freedoom

This was the perfect venue to present Sacré Profana’s a capella presentation of “The Christmas Truce of 1914.” Very austere and somber.
