Visited today and had a great time..we took a tour of all the ships and subs in the harbor. And boated on a 45 minute tour around San Diego Bay that was very informative and our tour guide was very funny!

Great educational experience for the entire family! The volunteer crew are friendly and very knowledgeable. Lots of activities for kids and the harbor cruise portion shows you some of the best views of downtown San Diego.

The Star of India is part of the San Diego Maritime Museum. It is the oldest active tall ship in the world. Anyone can come down on Sunday mornings at 8am to volunteer and learn how to work a ship. It is labor intensive and very rewarding. She has very well done exhibits and models of lots of ships much like the rest of the museum. She is one of the last touchable pieces of this era and it is well worth a visit.

A fantastic place to visit it you have a few hours to spare. The museum as a whole is full of interesting facts about maritime life and the vessels there. And the Star of India is like the shining gem it shares a name with. There are plenty of things to look at, and it took us nearly two hours to take it all in. For such a small fee (less than $20/person) it was well worth the trip.

Great reproduction of the original version. Loved the detailed collection of items on the ship. Great way to spend your time. Part of the larger maritime waterfront, there are plenty of exhibits and photo ops!

What a cool part of the Maritime museum. Was so excited to see this ship and to see the restoration and all of the history housed inside of it. The volunteers took some time to help my kids make some rope and learn some various nautical terms and knots.

I love the Maritimes museum. Every time we fly out to San Diego we have to go check the ships. Maybe its the kid in me but I love imagining owning something like that and sailing. The historical aspect of the ships are ao fascinating and when you go on the Berkeley the museum has lots of great history and stuff to look at. Words are 2 dimensional! You have to go check it out.

I visited the HMS Victory in Portsmouth last year. The ship was amazing and the museum and dock facilities were top notch, I would highly recommend the trip if you love maritime history.San Diego, while lacking the use of a retired Navy base has a lineup of ships that is quite impressive.The subs are top notch and their collection of sea worthy ships is impressive.

Nice place to visit. I expected less but got more!

It was a nice trip back into historic maritime. But with so much other great stuff going on in San Diego we did not have time to visit all the vessels which make up the Maritime Museum. Star of India, the ferry boat and one of the submarine vessels was all we could visit in our time frame.

Fascinating self tour of submarines and boats! Definitely worth it.

A trip back in time and an amazing nautical history lesson.

My kids have both done the overnight field trip on the Star of India & I Chaperoned as a Tall Sailor both times. The kids & adults had a fantastic time (despite the night shift). Its such a great experience for all!

Touring this ship was so much fun! It is self guided so the tour is what you make of it, but I loved the history and attention to detail. Not to mention, this thing can STILL SAIL!! I didnt get to take a cruise on it as of yet, but it is absolutely on the bucket list for our next trip back out to San Diego. One of the awesome things about it was the staff and how they interacted with a group of students on a field trip. They had them hoisting sails, yelling commands, and moving gun powder kegs around the galley via pulleys. It was really cool to watch as a spectator roaming the ship separately from them. Love to see historical education is still going strong!!

Amazing part of the seaport area. The maritime museum is a great place to spend time. Add the PT boat or pilot boat tour for an additional $10 and you will see San Diego Waterfront from land and sea. Wonderful experience for kids and adults.

Very interesting sailing ship with an historic past. Entrance to this ship also gets you in to several other ships and a Russian Foxtrot sub, and at a fair price. The Star of India is a large sailing ship, metal hull, that served many years under several flags taking passengers as well as workmen, cases of salmon, freight and necessities to Alaska and back. Naturally well lit on most decks for pictures, it is well worn but still looks well maintained considering her age.

Amazing old commercial sailing ship brings history to life. Think you could climb the rigging? (Dont try.) Live on the ship at sea for months? Sailors were truly rugged and fearless. Take the add on harbor cruise for a different look at San Diego. Wow.

Been wanting to visit for several years now and was not disappointed.. I enjoy ghost hunting so i was able to walk around and my own pace to see the whole ship.. Also for the admission i was able to walk around 6 other ships

Beautiful ship with history. Worth exploring this barque, especially if youve never been on a tall ship before. Almost the entire ship can be explored.

Fun yours and good learning experience for kids

A very interesting visit if you like ships and the history of the sea. The ship is fully restored (she was built in England during the civil war) and shes still seaworthy. There are some interesting exhibits but the real star is the ship itself. Definitely worth the visit.

Always enjoy waking around on the old sailing ships. Submarines just add to the coolness factor.

We had family in town and we took themTo see the star of India at night. It’s completely different experience at night. The boat is a classic beauty and it’s not expensive to take the tour. It’s a fun and different family outing.

Awesome historical boat that is impressive just from seeing the outside. Definitely worth stopping and appreciating the level of detail and age of this boat. Wouldn’t call it a must stop, but if you are walking along the harbor it can’t be missed.

Visiting the Star of India was very informative. This ship was built when Abraham Lincoln was President. They also have educational programs.

Spent 2 hours wandering around one evening. So many things to see, and imagine! Great kids program, and fun to watch. A joy to speak to the volunteers! Worth every penny.

Did an overnight trip with the kids for their school trip. The crew was amazing and the kids had a great time! The hands on learning, the sea stories, giving them responsibility and accountability, standing watch and the interactions with the crew were all amazing aspects of the trip.

Weve visited multiple times and love exploring this historic ship. Lots of interactive displays and things for kids to explore.

Took our grandson for a day of fun. Lots of historic info on board.

Great place to have a party. The ambiance is of amazing, the food and the service was excellent. Bartenders were fast and professional. I would totally recommend this place, especially if you are looking for something fun and different.

This was such a cool place to visit! We didnt go inside, but just seeing the outside was enough! It was lovely to walk by the water and just sit around and enjoy the view.

Really cool to read and think about the history that is built into this ship. If you are a paranormal geek, the ship is supposedly haunted with a teenage boy that likes to play tag. Really cool ship. Definitely recommend!

Everything about the Maritime museum is great. I would love to volunteer there to help out with the restoration. A picnic lunch on the top deck of the Berkley has one of the best views on the bay. If you live here, the annual membership is well worth it!

Great place to spend an afternoon

Nice side walk along Harbor Drive near the cruise terminal. It is a beautiful stretch from Seaport Village to San Diego Airport and Shelter Island. It is a great ride on scooter, bike or electric bike. There are few companies to pick up a bike or scooter from, like Lime, Discover (partner with San Diego city), Bird, Jump (electric bikes from Uber). It is a good way to tour the city like Gas Lamp Quarter, Seaport Village and Little Italy. Also there are many places to get breakfast, lunch, happy hours and dinner within 5 miles radius.

Absolutely amazing museum!! You pay a good price to visit 4 or 5 museums within the same area. I love coming here and just being by the water is amazing.

What an amazing experience! Lots of interesting stuff to see, for a very fair price! Would recommend visiting for sure. Just plan ahead for parking, or use alternative transportation.

Few like to visit museums, because they consider it a boring occupation to walk around the building, considering all kinds of exhibits that someone considered important. This museum is very interesting because it is an open museum on the water.There is this wonder museum on the waterfront of downtown San Diego. The famous English bark The Star of India - was launched in 1863. It is a multi-masted sailing vessel, the oldest ship with straight sails, which is in working condition. It was intended for the carriage of bulk cargo. At one time, the Star of India participated in risky wheat races, when several ships competed, who would quickly deliver a load of grain from Australia to Europe.

Living history! Even without a docent or guide, theres lots to see and appreciate. Great exhibit.

It was cool, very knowledgeable, and interesting however,it got kind of boring kind of quickly because its really not too much to look at except for the boat in the water however its a nice outing you can go have lunch across the street at the fish place you can rent a room it was okay you should see it.

What a fun place to stop by on the bay. If youre visiting make sure to check out to be on some of San Diegos history. Oh and the views are amazing.

Went on a group tour and I would definitely recommend it. Our guide was pretty good and told us a little bit about the history of each of the five boats we visited. We were also able to visit the submarines afterwards if we chose. I personally didnt go, since I had plans afterwards, but you should definitely check those out too!

Amazing piece of history so accessible right in downtown! Highly recommend grabbing a docent and having them walk you through and hearing their stories! They know so much more than what you can just read your self.

It was an amazing experience my son and his class had a great time at this field trip something very different from what we are used to but great experience. Overnight field trip! The staff is excellent we travel to the year 1851

Ive been on 2 overnight school field trips to Star of India. Its the BEST experience Ive ever had for school field trips. Its an experience every 4th grader should have.

Maritime Museum of San Diego is home to a variety of ship on display including the Star of India a steel hulled sailing ship. The Pilot Boat historic Bay cruise is a bargain as a $10 add on to admission price thats also a bargain for what you can see.

Wasnt going to pay to just board & look around, but so glad we did. This ship is amazing and has such a rich history. In addition to touringbthis beautiful ship, admission included 2 submarines and multiple other sailing vessels. Very worth the price.

Theres a nice pirate ship play structure on the lowest level to keep the attention of kids. I found the story of the ship very interesting, as it changed roles through the years.Good price (I think it was about $13 per adult) for a few hours of entertainment and education.

Beautiful but a bit pricey (note: must purchase full $18 Maritime Museum ticket to walk on). For that amount, go enjoy the rest of the boats as well. However, still really well maintained.
