First off, its part of Cabrillo national monument, so unless you have a national park pass, you have to pay to see it. Secondly, youre actually on a naval base, so you get to see barracks and a national cemetery on the way in(so cool). Once youre in, you can see the tidepools as well as the Cabrillo monument, in addition to the lighthouse! Sadly thanks to covid-19 we couldnt go into the lighthouse, only walk around the outside. But we had a wonderful time looking around and seeing the ocean as well as the skyline of Coronado and San Diego!

Really well-kept facility. All the features are clean and well-maintained. Historical information at all the spots allow for a nice self-guided tour. The views from the lighthouse are phenomenal! I could have spent the day watching boats and ships go in and out of the harbor. Also watching the aircraft at North Island NAS is always a treat. Cool refreshing ocean breezes are most excellent.

A fun stop. Probably a 3.5 when compared to other National parks but theyre no half stars. The vistas are a 5 especially at the beginning and end of the park hours. The lighthouse itself is average. But the park is well maintained and has good historical information and exhibits.

Great place to come while in San Diego to see the views from Point Loma down into the city itself. Tons of great history and informational displays in the keepers home and lighthouse areas. Definitely a popular place for sightseers to visit. I recommend riding a bike up to this area if you can avoid driving. Overall, fantastic experience and recommended to everyone.

A captivating restoration of the original lighthouse, furnished and arranged as if still occupied. There is a thorough and helpful presentation on the workings of the lighthouse in an adjacent building, too. Everything is put in helpful context and perspective. It’s also a beautiful vantage point to look into the harbor and out to the sea. The combination of historic character and natural beauty typical of the best national monument sites.

A genuine treasure of San Diego. Excellent views of the city to the East and the ocean to the West. You can learn lots of fascinating history about early settlers while youre there. Something you might not expect is the WWII artifacts scattered around. The day I was there we stumbled upon a mini museum by the parking lot detailing defense efforts in case Japan had attacked the coast. Ive heard that certain times of the year you can spot gray whales migrating from this area. Also, dont forget to check out the tide pools down below.

I think this is is one of the must-go spots in San Diego. It has great views of all around. Monuments are worth visiting for sure. The entrance fee/ticket was $15 which is valid for 7 days. Many places to see once you get in but I dont think you would need more than a day to spend here.Walking some distances will be needed between attractions.Overall I enjoyed my trip to this spot.

This light house looks small and I’m not sure if it is still functional. One building is like a small museum which introduced the history of the light house. Another one is light house itself. You can walk up the stair to reach the bottom of the light bulb. You can also see the bedroom light house workers sleep. The space is quite narrow. You can feel uneasiness to work here.

This was very cool and stepping back in time by walking they the two buildings. One building is the museum and holds a lens and pictures and artifacts from the old lighthouse days. A small building and very quick to go thru. The other is the residence and lighthouse itself. Great to see how they lived and in looking at the frames of pictures covered in seashells it was easy to imagine how the children growing up in the house would go down and collect shells for painting or crafts like this to spend time with family. The view from up there is spectacular!

Amazing views of San Diego! Fun to take the family for a day trip. If you have kids, definitely talk to the park rangers about getting your kids signed up to be a junior ranger. The program gets your kids interested in everything Point Loma has to offer. They get a cool badge when they complete the program. Takes about two to three hours to complete. On the weekends in the winter and spring they do some military reenactments and have great whale watching through the military lookouts.

This little lighthouse was amazing! Great views, easy paths to follow, lots to do.I left one star off simply because we didnt know going to it that it was a pay-to-enter place, which I feel is something that shouldnt catch you off-guard, and because the gift shop was so-so.I would recommend planning to be there for several hours to take advantage of all of its various exploring opportunities; there is a beach and tidepools along the shore, but we got there when the tide came in so they closed the route to the tidepools. Be mindful of the hours and plan accordingly! It was gorgeous; worth every dollar.

Excellent place to spend the morning (go early, before it gets crowded). The walks to each attraction are easy, not strenuous if youre in moderate shape.Bring binoculars; there are 50¢ binoculars at the top, but you can bring your own. You can also ask to borrow a pair at the visitors center. If you have children, ask about the Junior Ranger Program. Its fairly easy for small kids to do the one-page activity (mine is six and he did fine).

Called Old Point Loma Lighthouse for its poor positioning leaving it unable to be seen at night when the clouds roll in, is a beautiful place! Only 3 times a year can you actually venture up to where the Frensel lense was kept. But you can venture inside the house and see what people back then had to live with. As well as the guest house next to it to show off the Frensel lenses used and the progressions the lighthouse and care takers went through until I was turned over to the Army. Love is place and it gives you one of the BEST views in all of San Diego. Easy to drive up to and not pricey to gain entry for a car full of people. It is definitely a must visit!

A really neat look into the history of an extremely important piece of maritime technology. I used to have an obsession with lighthouses as a child. This was my first time inside one and I think it may have brought back some of that interest. Seeing how the people loved taking care of this light house was fascinating and the seeing the inside of a light house was really neat. All while visiting the light house we all checked out the tide pools in the same area. Dont leave the main exit where you paid there is road that goes downhill near it though that takes you down to the tide pools this is another neat part of the visit. There light house was very neat to see.

I went during one of the free days or person can go in and see the lighthouse and the museum. They have tours if you want one but I didnt need one I wanted to walk on my own. Do also got movies that you can see different things such as whales in their own habitat and how they migrate. I enjoyed myself immensely the question now is would I go back again if I had a the high prices that they charge to actually get in under non free days? I dont think I would pay those prices to see what I saw. But thats just my opinion I would definitely go back on a free day because the views from on top of the mountain overlooking the ocean or the harbor I should say I truly beautiful!

My daughter-in-law had a conference in San Diago & the one site I told her I wanted to go to was the lighthouse. It was amazing, full of history & beautiful vantage point to see everything around you. One issue is transportation. We were using Uber & once we were dropped off then we found out they dont come back to pick you up. We had to wait on a bus that would take us back downtown, but not close to our hotel. It took 30 minutes to get there & 4 hours to get back. So be sure to rent a car to go or have your own car.
