Awesome place with great examples of Marine Corps aviation. Very well laid out with lots of displays in relatively closed/small area allowing you to not have to walk far to see so much for those who love aviation this place doesn’t disappoint! Each display gives you information about the aircraft on display and arranged for great photo opportunities! There’s also indoor displays and a wonderful gift shop with lots of great items!

Incredibly friendly staff and wonderful experience. Aviation history is a story filled with brave women and men. The tale began with iron people and wooden planes. It transformed over the years because of our willpower, determination, ingenuity, and fighting spirit.

Loved this free museum with knowledgeable volunteer staff. Interesting static displays and not crowded. Talked with Daniel about his service in the navy and things about the museum and local area. Plan for upwards of 2 hours to see everything but could easily do a short visit of 30 minutes to just see the static displays.

I would highly recommend this museum for any Marines or Flying Leathernecks to make a visit to this museum. Very informative staff, lots of pictures of World II to present day era. My husband is a Vietnam veteran and he really enjoyed the history of this museum. I was surprised at how many wars used dogs in their wars. They were photographed as well, very interesting place to see if in San Diego. A must see.

Admission is free, but they ask for a $5 donation, which is completely worth it. They have helicopters and jets on display that have historical significance. The staff are retired military and very knowledgeable, one of them was present during the attack on Pear Harbor and it was an honor to shake his hand.

An interesting place. The planes are great! Take a self-guided tour. Each plane has a sign with all kinds of information that is well organized so you can just read your favorite type: speed, weight, special features, year the first of this model was made, the history of this specific plane, and more. However, I think my favorite part was the displays inside the museum. They include information about many incredible courageous men, women and dogs. The displays are well done and compelling including photos, artwork, and paraphernalia.

I have lived very close by for years, but I have never taken the time to actually stop and explore all that this place has to offer until today. I went with my father and my two year old son. It was open cockpit day, so they had three aircrafts that we were able to sit in and explore in more detail. I had a blast watching my two year old enjoy exploring and looking at all of the different planes and other items they had, as well as watching my dad reminisce on his military days as he looked at the planes he used to work on in the early 70s. Overall, this is a great place to spend some time learning about the aircrafts and their history and getting to get a closer view of them. Its free and the items in the gift shop are all very reasonably priced. They do accept donations at the front, and all proceeds from refreshments, donations, and gift shop items go right back into the museum and its upkeep. Im glad that I took the time today to visit this place after passing by it nearly every day for so many years. A great place for kids and adults alike! I will definitely bring my son back here in the near future and many more times as he gets older. I hope it continues to remain open and in San Diego.

One of the best museums in the San Diego area. Not only do they have some of the best aircraft used by the Marine Corps, the volunteer workers are very nice, and the retired officers that help people climb into the cockpits of selected aircraft, are the best! This excellent open air, mostly. 5 dollar an adult recommended donation museum will give you nearly every helo, and war bird the Marine Corps ever used. Inside are kid friendly mockups of cockpits and aging out veteran volunteers, too knowledgeable about what our Marines, navy armed forces have done in the past. we took a near three year old for a couple hours off the beach and it was about 20 minutes to get there. Toddler loved the big airplanes and rescue copters. Its the desert bring water sunblock and hats.Yes they have bathrooms and a gift shop of affordable child friendly cool toys. Better that the profits go here than somewhere less obvious or worthy.

Museum should be free to all, it should be paid by our tax money. This will mutually benefit both the parties.Yes, Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum is absolutely free and free parking, but please feel free to donate, they need it. I would have driven pass by this place million times and yet did not even try to get in to this place, all I though was how to jump this fence and fly on them away. This place is huge and takes 1-2 hour, even you run fast to cover all, it will take min 30 min. The area is around 27k square foot. The exhibits range from Sea Cobra to F-18. Few have them have staffs standing next to it and explaining. You could also climb inside few of them. Kids loved it, especially if they have been to Air Show in October. Also, I heard there are future plans to build a 90k square foot museum building for indoor displays, that would be cool. So again, do donate :)

Great staff, many aircraft ranging from WWII to present. You also cant beat the price - free, with a recommended donation of $5, which is more than worth it. Personally I always bring a sketchbook to museums, and the way the aircraft are displayed lets me get as close or far as I want from any angle, which I very much appreciated. While the museum building is small, be sure to ask about the various displays - the staff are helpful and had some great facts and anecdotes about the artifacts. I only wish I brought sunscreen and a bigger hat- be sure to bring those if its a sunny day out. Still, I had a great time and highly recommend this museum!
