A window in time. The first public school in San Diego built in 1865. While its closed during Covid, you can peer through the windows to see how children were taught in the late 1800s. A teacher sat the front with a desk. The children sat on benches (no backrest) so Im guessing they must have had short lessons at the time and probably not structured (8-3pm) like today. The back of the room had a wood burning fireplace and another table for snacks. A very cool place. California Landmark #533
Quaint. There is nothing to see, and the interior is not accessible. It is nice to stroll the grounds as part of the larger/broader context of Old Town San Diego.
