The Mormon Battalion Historic Site along with the rich Spanish History of Mission Hill are among the oldest areas of San Diego. On top of the history there is also a nice viewpoint to take photos. This site is also easily accessible from many trails and road. There are numerous places to have a picnic and wine under one of the large Magnolia Trees. I highly recommend visiting especially if youre a history buff.

Its not an actual fort, just a place where a fort used to be. Now, there is a statue and some plaques. Has nice views though.

One of the oldest historical place in San Diego history. Its a small area with only a few plaqes to show the significance of this fort, but the stories are meaningful and powerful.Great place to bring school—aged kids to learn about the history. There are a lot of area to walk around and for the kids to run around. You can see the Sea World from the top,

Strictly historical in nature. When I was a little girl we played and rolled down this hill. Then some San Diego State students and their professor excavated the original fort that was there to guard the Mission. They have it. Clearly labeled what room was what. It is interesting if you are into San Diego history.

Located a stones throw from the Presidio and Mission, however parking is very difficult if you do not want to hike into the site, which is up-hill. Once there, you find a nice site and dedication to the troops.
