Its a good beach to visit if others are full. Rocks are in this shoreline, so be careful swimming, or your bottom will end up scratched up. Very pretty scenery as many boats are along the horizon. It was crowded, even with the pandemic, but everyone is very considerate of each others spaces. Most everyone had their own groups and each group was at least 6 apart. The sun felt great and was much needed. I havent been out in public since March, so this was a welcome getaway. Definitely a little paradise.
Great beach, wasnt there on a weekend so cant speak for the shop, bathroom seemed clean and well stocked, but it smelled so foul you could smell it not long after entering the parking lot and could hardly get near it without being engulfed in a cloud of stench. It was so bad Id drive back to our trailer at our camp site and use that restroom. That smell alone lost the place a star.
Great park, quiet, clean, lots of bathrooms and showers. They have dry camping sites, full hook up sites and even have some vintage trailers to rent.
Its scenic against the juxtaposition of the train tracks running by..... I was able to get some lovely images before the fog burned off. The trash collection person attempted to tell me I was not allowed to use my drone on the beach, I was filming from the concrete above the beach. Know your rights! Most OC beaches have banned drone photography, from the beach...... which is my fun. So, work around it......use your drone from anywhere not on the sand :)
There are private vollyball courts on the beach. And you cant read the sign until you walk all the way down the beach to get to them. Also, tons of large rocks and logs just under the sand. However, its still a beautiful beach. The camp site and park is really cool. I recommend.
Really gorgeous spot.Nice for picsPebble-y sandTrain!
This hidden gem is just wonderful. You can park cheaply right at the beach. There is a great beach cafe/snack bar. There is also a beautiful walking or bike path that spans the length of San Clemente. Theres a lot of beach for everyone to spread out. A ten minute walk south will bring you to the tide pools of trestles, make sure is low tide though.
Nice beach but can get crowded. Lots of rocks in the shallow water so bring water shoes. Has restrooms and paid parking but parking fills up fast.
Nice beach. Gets pretty crowded though. Even during the week.Public parking which is metered. Fun for family!
Walk along the ocean shore and let your cares fall away with each step into the warm sand.
It was beautiful it was fun they had showers there private Campground look nice beautiful ocean view not a large amount of people there with all in all a beautiful day and a beautiful place thank you
One of the best kept secrets in the OC. Great family beach, just be aware of the waves and undertow with the little ones on the shore line.
Beautiful space. I always try and pick up trash when I visit to honor the space.
Parking by beach. Just be careful with crossing rail tracks and stairs going into sand other than that enjoy the waves
Great Beach - Nice Campgrounds Up On The Bluff Overlooking The Ocean...
California is beautiful. I was just swinging by and stopped here to check out the ocean. There is ample parking, although you have to pay for it (I only noticed the pay box as I was pulling out!). The beach is great and there was a walking path that went on for quite a bit. If I had some time, I would have loved to walked it, and if I lived close I would ride a bike on it all the time.
This is one of my new favorite beaches!! If you are willing to do a little walking, you can find areas of the beach that have great waves and where the sand stays shallow for long enough to boogie board!
Beautiful beach. Not very crowded on the weekdays and parking is very close.
Imma keep it real here alr? when u first walk into the water its a little rocky but if u hold out its this lucious soft packed sand and i rly liked tht tbh. the park rangers there were all very friendly too which was nice cuz its easy for someone to act like an a hole. the water was kinda clear but not totally. if you want super clear check out lahoya shores (i think thts how u spell it but its a pretty short drive). its a short walk down to the beach but the uphill part wont be too accessible for the elderly. by the top tho there were benches to look over the ocean from which i enjoyed. i got there around 4ish and it wasnt too crowded. there was also enough sand area so that 2 or 3 groups could fit 6 feet apart in a straight line from the ocean and back. but i would reccomend going to this beach i liked it.
Easy access Beach with plenty of coastline to explore. I came with family last weekend and the surf was blown out a bit, but the previous several times surfing here was NOT a disappointment.
Its a beautiful place to relax and watch the ocean. You can see people surfing and boating in the ocean. I cant wait to go back and watch a sunset!
Great place for some beautiful shots but horrible experience for a relaxing swim. So many rocks in the water
Beautiful beach but kinda rocky, not best for swimming.
Nice place and clean nice place to camp
Great beach, very secluded and quiet, perfect dpot to get away with u and your loved ones. 5 stars
Really great place to see the beach, stay at the Nearby San Clemente RV park, it visit the beach for a day. Lots of parking and easy freeway access.!!
Easy parking showers and little Cafe rad spot.
Pretty spot to enjoy the the beach & cliffs. Would love to see it from the train. We went on a Sunday midmorning & there wasnt many people there & there was plenty of parking
Great beach. The only problems are limited parking (but that keeps the beach from getting too crowded), and a pervasive sewage smell near the snack bar. Luckily the snack bar is in the parking lot so there is no bad smell on the beach. The beach itself is broad, pretty, and uncrowded.
Great day! Easy access nice clean beach overall good atmosphere.
My kids had a blast. It wasnt crowded probably because it was February but it was a quick walk over the train tracks and you were at the sand
Uncrowded beach. Clean bathrooms. Great for beach photos. We have seen dolphins twice here, just a few yards from shore! Super great place to hang out on the beach!
Whenever I go to this city I come to this state park. They have easy parking and public restrooms. I love to come and park and walk to the beach and hear the sound of the ocean. Most of the time its not very busy.
Parking is super close to beach and there werent many people there even on a Sunday so it was easy to social distance
Had a great time with my awesome sister
5/2020 Nice infrastructure, little food hut still not open. Great place.
Very clean when we took the kids. Very family friendly place.
It was so nice I didnt want to come back home to Michigan.
Beautiful rest stop; a ton of people here this 4th of July
Very chill beach. Not too crowded.
Lifeguards on duty. Appropriate social distancing. Fun.
I loved the vibes at this beach, very laid back
ANTS... parked in the day parking early July 2 days (left at night b4 10p) my rv got over run by ants. Then visited again 3 wks later for a day, same thing, more ants again.
Stay away from the sand cliffs they do collapse. Easy access = a lot of familys
Great area to camp had the group site 1 best spot here.
Its down the street and the perfect definition of a beach
Who says you cant be at the beach enjoying the summer weather, just have to distance your self from the stress (and other families but thats temporary if were smart and stay strapped with masks on hand) and hit San Clemente State beach at Ave Calafia!!
Beautiful, easy access. Not too busy in October but the water was still warm and the sun was still bright and hot.
Perfect little beach. Parking is easy. Steps away from beach. Train passes through.
Kids loved this spot. Its a Clean beach too
Ohhh yeah... family fun time!
Parking lot full. Once you are in the rounabout you cant get out.
Sweet photo spot in the slot canyon-like cliffside.
Soft sand and great water.
Great little secret spot.
This beach is so peaceful. Everyone is kind and chill. Beautiful views
It was great loved to take my family there
Another great beach to visit.
Nice local beach, small beach, snack shop in summer. Not much surf.
Gods Beautiful Creation
My Go To when Most Beaches are Crowded Up - Plenty of Parking and Improved Bbq Sites available.
We love staying at this State Beach. We glamp, and have done so at this campground in spots with no hook-ups several times and twice weve stayed in spots with hook-ups. Weve enjoyed our stays on all occasions. Its a bit of a steep walk to the beach from the campground, but its paved. The people are friendly, and the staff dont bother you. Beware that skunks are all over the campground at night. Dont leave food or trash bags outside after dark. Or your dog for that matter. Our dog was outside with us the first evening, got curious, and stuck his nose in prime position to be sprayed by a skunk before we knew what was happening. Theyre a nuisance, but dont keep us from thoroughly enjoying our stays.
Had lunch on the grass at the park above not too busy beautiful day
This is the nicest beach to visit!
Laid back beach that is easy to get in and out of. The snack bar is nice to have and even better when they have hot food. San Clemente has plenty of great beaches but Calafia is likely our favorite in the area.
Quiet, peaceful, not too crowded, great waves here
Good clean beach, great water and sand.
Freaking serenity at its best
Family friendly. Plenty of parking.
Beautiful place for sunsets. love to walk the beach. It is usually pretty empty for sunset.
Nice camping area with fairly easy access to the beach. Beach was pretty clean with life guards on duty. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Restroom and shower areas were clean and well maintained. Definitely worth a stay if youre planning a camping trip in the area.
I liked this campground, way cooler vibe than the other campgrounds further north. The beach is not easily accessible they tried to make the path as smooth as they could, so it is accessible technically just be ready for it. The sunsets are beautiful from this angle any time of year really and there are gas stations/pubs/shops a couple miles down but pack food, the Ralphs nearby is a little pricey. And if camping book far in advance because they will turn you away if full!
Its breath taking!
Liked the rock formation and the sand
The best for relaxing.
The most beautiful beach with lots of sand
Beautiful campsites and ocean floor.
Always have everything we need. Employees are great people.
Fun beach with strong waves
Beautiful clean beaches with bathroom facilities.
Nice place to visit. Nice Beach and great Boardwalk to scold along to the pier.
Nice beach, great place to have a peaceful picnic, stroll, etc.
Beautiful sunsets
This place is magical full on narnia
Really nice ocean view.
Best Beach peaceful and quiet
Good place to swim, surf or boogie board. Plenty of soft sand. Nice sand walkway path to San Clemente Pier (about a mile I think).
Quiet, family-oriented beach with easily accessible restrooms, parking for a small fee, and a food vendor selling beach basics like soft serve and hamburgers. We loved this beach!
Beautiful beach and nature countered by horrible horrible bathrooms. Best part was the train.
