They do not exempt individuals with medical conditions, from wearing face mask. Pretty sure this is illegal as the mayor states in his mandate that qualifying conditions are exempt. Hopefully the San Antonio Access Disabilities Office will speak to themThe security guards have an attitude as well, the type of guys who think that size correlates to macho-ness. The two bouncers up front were really cool and polite though
I didnt have any drinks and the bouncer said I was too intoxicated to come in. I am unsure how he came to that conclusion however I left and wrote this review. I was wearing an express button up long sleeve shirt, a pair of express jeans, and black loafer so I was well within dress code
Every time I come into town I have a great time with my best friend.
Great place, lots of fun, awesome prices on the drinks. Go there and most likely youll dance the whole. Mens restroom suck, the worse Ive ever seen at a night club.
I used to go here on Sundays. 2$ anythings. The only bar that has a very friendly social atmosphere. you can literally go up to anyone and talk without them giving you that look like who the hell are you. Good vibes. most of the people here dont know how to dance so if you want to dance and dont know how you can definitely come here and just let loose and have fun. :)
Great drink specials and music! No cover! Friendly staff. Dress code is not strict at all. Can get crowded sometimes. Love this place on the weekends!
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.This place felt like a chaperoned YMCA dance that happened to serve alcohol. You like getting patted down by cops before entering places? You like being harassed by bouncers who wish they were cops? This is the place for you.I think they are catering to the younger crowd that doesnt know any better. There are much better bars in very close proximity. Go there instead.
This review is based on the employee on the right of my attached photo. He had me move from waiting near the restrooms for my husband to come out of the restroom. He said the area needed to be clear. Not even 30 seconds later I see him laughing with people in the same spot I was standing in and he didnt ask them to move. I asked him why he didnt tell them to move and he said its just his decision. I hate to think homophobia exists in this place but I guess so. So sad that an employee exhibits hate so blatantly and this place is ok with it.
It was our first time there. But it was pretty nice. The bartenders, along with all the other staff, were very friendly and attentive. Big shout out to Fernando who took care of us tonight and made us feel at home. The music was just as promised. The drinks were on point and reasonable. Would highly recommend.
This place was cool in the beginning... People used to care and appreciated 80s night. Now its just full of creeps.. and way beyond over crowded! X200 people easy.. Not worth the time or atmosphere anymore
TIP: if the doorman says he’ll hold something for you, do not believe them. They keep it and don’t give it back. I can’t believe i spent my money at an establishment that isn’t true to their word and didn’t give something back AFTER they said they would. Otherwise we would’ve just gone somewhere else. I’m repulsed and will not be returning due to terrible management and dishonest workers. This was outrageous.
Great drinks, awesome DJ would give 5 stars but I’ve seen the bouncers antagonize customers and instigate situations with people half their size
Love this place so much, has the best drinks and the best music ️
Could not get a higher recommendation. Had friends in town from all over the world and we had the best time ever! Must see Christian when you do, great bartender. Although door staff could be friendlier(just an observation), this coming from an old Doorman/Dj/Manager. Seriously, thank you for a great time!
Great music, friendly staff. The drinks are always on point. Security guards are amazing. Thursday night be lit.
Jonathan peña and Akeem were great they made sure we were taken care of and felt safe. They were quick and very polite to help when we needed them. Great drink specials and music plus very clean restrooms. Will definitely be going back.
Whos Still wants to go, in 2020 pairing up withFood Trucks is a joke...They dont even have food and beverage license, To be considered a food/ bar.. jus a matter of time..
If you want to get crunky, head to the monkey!Brass Monkey has everything you want in a bar. A dance floor, cheap drinks, and the best 80s music around! Great for an adult crowd, or anyone looking for a fun time. Highly recommended!
Its actually not a bad place, but the rating for me is service staff, price, and venue. Price and venue A+...Staff are completely out of line, particularly the bouncers. Their attitude and expression toward guests makes being there more like a job than a small getaway.
The security guards here think there guarding the white house & like to harass you for any little thing. They make you feel uncomfortable & watch you like a hawk. The one tall Mexican with a beard must be super insecure about himself because he definitely abuses the position given to him. Although the bartenders are super awesome but will not be going back because of the guards.
Great place. Good music. Chill place where you can enjoy your night out with no worries.
Great music! Decent dance floor! 1st Friday of the month means disco versus 80s music; Saturdays is 80s music. Reasonable price on drinks! Love this place!
I love this place Thursdays are super cheap drinks, its usually pretty good music, sometimes they have an off night and its just straight trash music. But either way go with people and have some fun. Theres a taco truck like a min away walking distance get that after. But I always have fun even if the music is just alright. 80s night is fun.
Not really my thing, way too crowded and loud for my taste. Much rather go to one of the more laid back bars nearby. The music was good though, mostly 90s hits. And despite other peoples bad experiences with bouncers I had no such troubles. I have a taser thats disguised as a flashlight and a swiss army knife in my purse and I forgot I had them on me. Bouncer was very observant about it which made me feel better about saftey. He politely told me I couldnt take it in and held on to it till we left. We told a different bouncer about a girl inside who was being made uncomfortable by some guy following her around and he went inside to look into it. So overall not my type of place, but the bouncers we interacted with did their jobs.
Great place to do dancing! They have different themes every weekend and they have big dance floors. Security is always on point and there is no cover fee.
AMAZING!! It was so much fun, the music, the people and the atmosphere was everything I wanted to experience. This is the place to be. Come check it out for yourself.
Security is super strict they will kick you out for tripping on your shoe lace. They dont care if your drunk or not. Other then that good place, good vibes, nice people just be careful around the sercuity guards they will kick you out for little to no reason.
Only played rap music, after being told they played all kind of music. They had the same beat for ten songs in a row. Only able to till it was a different song by looking at the singer. Would not send my enemy there
I had a lot of fun once inside but outside the security guard at the door was very rude. It was early, hardly anyone inside yet so there was no reason to be rude about me forgetting I had a tiny bottle of contact solution in my bag that I had to throw away. Didnt even know it was not allowed. I got to the first bar outside and the total was some dollars with .25 cents. I decided to pay with a $5 dollar bill and .25 cents so that I can give the bartender some dollars for tip. I paid with 2 dimes and a nickel. The bartender told me they only accept quarters!!!! I have never been so shocked to see someone turn away U.S. Currency!!!! Once inside later in the night it got full so I went to the bar to get another drink, it got spilled going back to my table due to no area free to walk to the bar and back. Once it fills up, and youre not sitting near the bar, theres no away for you to go out there and get a drink without being stuck or pushed around by the crowd. Please talk to your employees about being more friendly towards customers.
I came for a couple of shots but will never return again. The staff from security to the bartender were rude and when I spoke to another staff member about how we were treated, he was unbothered by it.
A bunch of people were harassing our group, throwing drinks and pushing us. The bar decided to kick us out and let them stay. Will never go back they are resist and sexist.
I love brass. I usually only go on Sundays. Does get pretty packed so I usually show up as it opens. $2 you call it? The best. I always have fun dancing.
I went there last night. I couldnt enjoy myself. Bouncers kept telling me move over there everywhere I went I couldnt stand outside near the doors they keep saying move back move forward even to the dance floor and they even wanted me to move from there.
During my visit last night to brass monkey for there 75¢ well special they have on Thursdays, I got frisked by an officer very roughly. While patting me down the officer forced my hands up in a very aggressive manner. On top of that the officer started to dig in my pockets rather than just asking me what object was in my pocket ( my keys). I get safety is the main priority before entering this bar. What I don’t understand is how a LGBTQ bar would allow an officer like this to forcefully push my arms up like I am an in mate, then tell me to move aggressively afterwards. I will never come back to this bar after this.
Thats my spot!! love that place!! Love Justin!! and the security guard knoah is the man! very friendly!!
Very chill place to be. The bartenders and staff are awesome and very friendly. If you like different variety of music, this is the place to be. Outside patio is a plus. Highly recommend.
80s music, relaxed atmosphere and cheap drinks!
I dont go inside, but as Rideshare driver, I pickup/ dropoff all the time. Its only open certain days but thats normal. Its a bar/ dance club, so come ready to move. When its busy, its a great place to go
I love this freaking place, what more can i say. I am going to die here one day. Love the bartenders, the music is great! Love love love the 80s night, love seeing everyone have fun. From the younger people to the older people, its always a good place to be. Great ambience!
Not a bad club of youre looking for a casual night out. It is a step above a dive bar with a small dance club. The DJ was great. Drink prices were good and there were enough bar tenders working that you didnt wait too long to get service. Drink selection while wide in flavor selection is actually limited as to kinds of alcohol served. Crowd tended to be really to mid-twenties. parking wad non existent on site. You had to find parking on the street or pay for parking in another lot. If you are looking for something nicer and classier this is not the place for you.
Other than the odd 80s music they like to play here, it was lit and the drinks are decently priced. Start here on the strip.
Great place to grab a beer with friends. I mainly stuck to the patio area as it was quieter and warmer than inside the night I went. The bathrooms were pretty clean, but the stalls are really shallow, so youre practically against the door while you do your business, which is not the greatest. In terms of alcohol, the drink selection seemed to be good. There is a stage for bands inside and the area feels very intimate--you should be able to easily see the performance from anywhere. I would definitely return here with friends.
1st time here. Music was way too loud inside. Great crowd, good drinks, great prices, hot girls.
Jimmy Eat Wednesdays! AKA Emo night is one of the best things every month!
Never been here before, but I was stereotyped by the cops from the beginning. This place has great music, but the bartender I had, was lacking. Idk if I would come here again.
Ive been going to the Brass Monkey for several years now. This is my go to place. I love Saturday nights, 80s New Wave. Made many new forever friends at Brass. Its a casual, lay back forget about your troubles kinda place.I dont have to get dressed up in heels, wear make up, or get drunk even though their coconut margaritas are good. I can don on my jeans, my favorite Depeche mode t-shirt and my converse and dance to the best 80s music thanks to DJDC. Yes Im over 45 but I can still dance the night away and believe me I do!!!!
There is a bar for everyone. Its not too bad and the drinks are also not too bad. I just dont enjoy people bumping into me... but the music is good.
They play awesome music and have really good drink specials.
Kpop night was lit. Dont know if this was their first time doing this. But overall it was great. I love would if yall did this once a month.
Cant say I really hate a business but holly cow this place comes close. Rude staff and cheap over served clientele just makes this a spot to avoid. Looking just to get plastered for Pennys on the dollar while getting sub par service then this spot wins the award. This place is just a recipe for something horrible to happen.
Sunday 2 dollar you call its. Get there early because the line starts wrapping around the corner with people trying to get in. Good place to dance!
I honestly don’t know what the hype is about this place. All of the security guards are so rude and aggressive. I would stand in a place and minding my own business and one of the security guys tells me “move this is my place”. Honestly, I’m never coming back here. Everyone is really rude.
This place is always packed which is a great thing and also a bad thing. But if you are looking for cheap drinks, a badass soundtrack, and to make no friends than look no further. Brass Monkey has a badass 80s and emo night. Their bartenders are very good as well.
Great service, Thursday nights seem like college night. great fun crowd just younger generation. Great drink specials and great music
The 80s Night DJs are the best! It does sometimes get uncomfortably crowded, especially on holiday weekends, but the staff are helpful and keep the drunks, fighters and creeps on lockdown.
If you love retro, youll love this place! Great music and they show the videos. You can reserve a table for free for parties and Fernando is great when you call to book. Drinks are cheap even on Sat nights. No complaints and always enjoy coming here.
So this is a pretty standard establishment but with a few perks. Firstly they do have security body check at the entrance to prevent any undesirables from entering. Inside, there are two main areas: an open air patio with picnic like benches to chill and have your drink from the two bars right there. One accepts card, the other just cash. When you enter the main building, youre met with a selection of bars then leading in and to the right, they have a sizable square dancefloor with high stools and tables to the side. When I visited on a Saturday, they typically have 80s night, so retro music will be playing once the crowd starts to fill up after 10pm. And they display 80s movies and commercials on some of their flat screens to set the nostalgic atmosphere.Overall, the music was not bad if you can groove to the oldies, the crowd tends to be about middle aged, chill, usually there for drinks, good company, some flirtation and a bit of dancing if youre feeling confident. Its a simple set up, good for a while of entertainment with some friends but perhaps not so stimulating for the younger crowd.
Fantastic venue. Always gets great turnouts. LOVE the music. You MUST try emo night on Wednesdays. Oh and 90s nights are so fun!
Super fun place to go out and dance! Will definitely be going back.
My friend was excited to dance at the Brass Monkey for her 26th birthday. She has an out-of-state ID as she is here temporarily for work. We waited in line, but when we got to the front the bouncer said her ID seemed fake. We insisted that it was real, and the owner came out and said it seemed flimsier than other IDs he had seen from that state but did not consult any source of information and didnt provide any other reason. I understand the bars need to be cautious about letting in people under 21, but they should have a guide for each state license and reject people if they have determined that the ID does not match. I have seen these in other bars and grocery stores. Turning away someone who has been 21 for 5 years without a good explanation doesnt make sense.
Great music good people good vibe but get ready for a pat down and they do check vaps to see if they contain thc
The vibe and music are usually good here, but the security is extremely rude. On the night in question, my friend and I werent even going inside the bar when the security rudely said hey, back of the line is over there. We were literally just passing by and this rude security having a bad attitude tried to take it out on us. We werent going in and we will keep it that way from now on. Please check ur securitys attitude towards women. Not okay!!!
Love this place!!! Good prices on drinks. The only thing I dont like is, how crowded it gets. They need to invest in a top floor or expand on the dance floor. I have been sexually assaulted; with my butt being slapped by people. I cant pinpoint individuals due to the crowdedness. I have left the bar due to this issue. I deem the dance floor unsafe, once the place gets crowded.
I stumbled upon 80s night on a Friday and had a blast. The music was great and the crowd was fun. They have great drink specials too (that night it was $2 Lone Star). I didnt have any problems with rude staff or bouncers. I was also very impressed with how clean the restroom was, even at the end of the night.
Its a fun place and very enjoyable love the music on sat nights
Great time. Didnt have the issues most speak of with the bouncers
I always feel safe and the music is AMAZING!!!! This place is my music therapy!!! Drink specials are great. Bar staff and security are very respectful. Love this place!!!
They recently started REALLY watering the drinks down. I thought it was just the one bartender so I went to another bartender and same issue. The music is the only good thing about this place and that’s only if you’re into 80s electrónica.
An expansive, heavy alternative bar/club with many events and a wild set of interesting characters who attend regularly. It can be a bit hectic, so if you are a reserved person, it may not be your scene. Otherwise, its a welcoming and trendy environment. I was the D/D, so I cant say much about the drinks.
The place would be ok if it wasnt for the ridiculous and pretentious security at the entrance. The bar is a ghetto no need to screen people more than at the airport
I went to the David Bowie Bash with my friend. We were the first in line in order to get the pins. I was told that we couldnt come in because of my vital medication to my life was in my purse. We were told to throw it in the trash. I am very ill, and tonight was the first night in a long time that I have felt well enough to go out and not look like I am actively dying (I am). I was told that maybe if youre so sick that you shouldnt go out by the bouncer.I offered to show that the medication is mine with my name on my ID and name on prescription bottles. I offered to leave my medication behind the bar. My option was to toss them.I just wanted to feel normal again for one night before I have to take an increase in medication that will make me lose my hair and become sicker. Thank you to that incredibly insensitive bouncer who made me feel worthless for having an illness I neither wanted nor can control.
Great club with a great atmosphere. Use their social media to find out what theme night they have going on when you come by. Always a good crowd, but can get crowded at times.
I witnessed blatantly racist security at this establishment.A few people were using a juul device on the dance floor. Shortly afterwards a few security guards seized the only black person who had briefly used the device, and who was further from the guards than several white users. They accused the young man of having a joint and escorted him out. Everyone who witnessed this in our group of 10+ were enraged at what was blatantly different treatment of a black patron vs. white & Hispanic patrons. The guards were incredibly disrespectful.Frankly, we would have happily left anyway because the music was terrible. Used to enjoy Thursgays regularly but after this I will not ever return.
Met up here with friends for 80’s night! Outside and inside areas were packed!Great music, drinks and dancing!!
The door service is horrible, but otherwise the music and drinks are great
Ive been going for maybe 3 years now, the quality of the experience has gone down exponentially. Still the best place to go on a Sunday night. I DONT RECOMMEND USING YOUR CARD TO PAY HERE. Theyve put a hold on my card for $50 before when my tab was 12. Their Twitter account is fast at replying which is nice.
Best prices on Sundays great music
I went here last night and it was quite the experience. To start, it seemed that security was extremely over the top. I agree that safety is important and liabilities are a concern, however, it was over the top. Checking every little thing. The bouncer barked at me too, that I needed to get in line. When it wasnt clear there was one. Make it more clear whos in charge of IDing. When theres 3 people in the same outfit standing near the door, along with other people walking through the sidewalk, its hard to tell. When we finally made it inside I was almost overwhelmed by the smell of vomit that lingered in the air. When I saw the cheap liquor and beer they serve, that made sense. The drinks were good but as another reviewer put it, they kept herding customers away from the bar. You couldnt even stand around 2 seconds before they start moving you. Even if you were standing within 4 or 5 feet. Keeping the bar clear is important for the bartender to serve other guests but if theres no one ordering, why does it matter? The staff could afford to be more pleasant. At the end of the day, this is a bar. People come here to drink, dance and have a good time. Theres a way to regulate safety without micromanaging. How do I know? Because so many other fantastic bars do it. This is still a customer service type business and treating paying customers like that is never ok. Its unfortunate because I see they serve food there as well and it looks like it tastes amazing. Too bad Ill never find out because I wont be going again.
Definitely a hipster vibe but not in a bad way. Theyre a little rude though if you stand in the wrong spot. There are certain areas of the floor near the bar that youre not allowed to stand and if you are new and dont realize that, they will be rude about it. I understand theyre annoyed having to tell people all the time but someone whos knew there would be know any better.
Friend had a party. 80s,90s,music. Very nice.
I had a great time, bartenders were moving as fast as possible, very no nonsense and the music was great! Its my new favorite place to hang out. Oh and security was a little short at the door, but hey theyre not there to make friends. Id rather that then the ones who try to hit on me.
Had a good time...theme was 80s night, it was very crowded on the dance floor but everyone was cool and had fun. Every song had the video on screens around the dance floor, that was fun. Outside seating area with bar and inside bar as well. ️
Cool hang out. Awesome
Great drinks awesome dance floor.. we took some friends from Houston and the all love the variety of music being played.
This is a fun place if you like 80s music like my wife and I do!
Love our bartender Jordan. He was on top of drinks..
Literally the most unsanitary and rudest people working. Besides the cheapest drinks they have the cheapest service too. Management is poor and they need to learn how to handle people correctly.
Been coming to Brass Monkey for over 2 years now, and I always have a fun time. Their music has me on the dance floor from the moment I arrive until closing time. Their drink specials are the cheapest on the St. Marys strip and the best part (besides the music), is that theres NEVER a cover.
First off, NO COVER, LOW PRICES, CLEAN BATHROOMS, AlWaYS packed, lots of 09ers, hard to compete with that on the St.Marys strip, my favorite 80s/throwback club in san antonio. retro cool. they always give out some kind of party favors like led rings or glow bracelts, they give out play mics for sing along night. two bars to order from, and two scenes a kick back low key area outside and a bar/club scene inside. if you havent been then check it out.
I’ve never had a bar confiscate my small bottle of Excedrine or the ball point pen out of my purse before. Completely ridiculous! Hated this place even more when we got inside. So smokey/foggy indoors that I couldn’t see or breathe. They have hired muscle to literally herd you away from the bar after you’ve ordered your drink, or even if you’re standing in the nearby vicinity. Won’t be going back. Won’t be going back here.
Went to Brass Monkey May 24th. Bartender Steven, if you can even call him bartender, was very rude. He even didnt know how to make lots of drinks. I had a few drinks but he never put cash in the register. Always goes in his pocket.
Great bar tender service, cheap drinks, and the best dance floor on St Marys strip . 80s night jam is the best!!
Great place to Parta......good prices.....good music....great people.....
Great place! Loved the atmosphere. Great music and drinks!
Poor customer service. When I was getting my ID checked by the bouncer he became very hostile towards me for no reason, like he wanted to fight me. Then used the excuse that he thought I was drunk to deny me entry. It was very strange, and overall Id just reccomend going somewhere with friendlier staff. If I could give less than one star I would.
Loud loud music. Different mixture of people. Young and old.. like some of the decor.
Cheap drinks, great music
It was a decent place but they charge for water
