You must experience this place. I’ve been several times over the years. Parking is convenient and ample. The facility is immaculate. Everything is spotless clean, even the bathrooms, and staff are disinfecting regularly. Everything is set up to be touch less. They provide styluses to use during the visit at each exhibit. All the exhibits are amazingly maintained and the new installations are awesome. My three year old loves every aspect of this place. There is a lot to do and see and learn. The gift shop is pretty cool and prices are reasonable. I highly recommend.
The floor sparkles & the mind expands here. Multiple CV19 protections in place. Masks. Sanitizer. All guests provided a stylus to minimize touch points. You will smell the clean & see the clean with employees continually wiping hourly. Excellent facility for kids & adults to learn - not just about dinosaurs, but a variety of subjects. Utilize the app & their website for deeper diving & value added curriculum. Great for homeschoolers! Upgrade to a membership for even better return on value.
Loved it! Good mix of different types of activities (informational, interactive, hands on, etc.) and subjects (Biology, ecology, history, culture, paleontology, etc.), with a few things to do outside as well. Not all the hands-on activities are available, but many of them are. They give you a stylus and have adapted a lot of things so you can still interact with them via the stylus. Some of our favorite things:-the displays of minerals and gems, especially the ones you can see under fluorescent light,-the dinosaur bones visible beneath the glass floor panels you are walking on-interactive displays like filling up salt lake valley with water to see lake Bonneville and the wind/sand tunnel with a fan in it that you can turn and see how the landscape erodes/changes-the native American displaysAnd the building is beautiful and has great views of the valley from the top level.
Such a fascinating museum. The rotating exhibit on dinosaurs from Antarctica was interesting. My children loved getting their own stylus to interact with the exhibits. The dinosaurs are always interesting as well. Highly recommend.
Great natural history museum. It has beautiful exhibits for all ages. The museum has a good layout and they have taken good measures to keep everyone safe during this time of Covid. Highly recommended!
As a visitor from Los Angeles, CA I am a huge fan of the natural history museum there. However I have to say I was absolutely blown away with a wonderful exhibits and the architecture that is the museum itself!I visited during the pandemic and the museum made excellent adjustments to ensure social distancing as well as a hands-free experience via the use of stylus pens to interact with the exhibits.
Very clean and over all a wonderful place to take the kids. A lot of interactive exhibits that the kids really enjoyed. We didn’t get to experience some exhibits that were temporarily closed due to COVID. The reason I am giving a 3 star review is because at the end I wanted to get some items from the gift shop. I didn’t see any signage that said “cards only”. It also didn’t state on the website at the time, that they do not accept cash. We did our shopping and the kids got to pick out an item. Then proceeded to pay and was told they can only expect cards. This was very disappointing to the kids as well as embarrassing for me. I get really annoyed when our currency is not accepted especially though a government funded facility.
Amazing. Beautifully displayed. All exhibits where well set up.Forcing us to exit out a specific exit by the gift shop was not good, thanks a lot for the consideration of knowing I have kids (teenage guy at the stylus stand). Don’t worry, if there is ever an emergency, let’s say a fire, I will make sure to buy tar pit slime on my way out.
This museum is really good for knowing about evolution. The museum exibit a lot of evolutoionary evidence using dionesour or other reptiles fossiles. I love the way museum shows are human cusins and negibours using ancestry trees from millions of years. I really love the museum the way it organizes the skulls if different kind of dinesours and their relations. The museum has entry fee about 15 bucks but it will be worthy to see those evoloutionary evidence. It is very kid friendly and kids can a lot of things about science here.
My 11 yo son loved it here. Which was refreshing for us both as hes more in to xbox and you tube than natural history. Highly recommend a visit.
We had a delightful time at the Natural History Museum see the Antarctic dinosaur exhibit. And since I drove down from Ogden, and unfortunately left my mask at home, I called and asked if the museum had masks available at the front desk and was politely told yes. Upon arriving I was given an envelope with a material reusable mask with the honey bee print and was delighted to be treated with concierge-level service.
The museum itself is awesome but I dont know why they would sell reservations for 2 pm and not tell you that you have to be out by 3 pm, until you have 20 minutes left. Had to rush everything. They should give me tickets for another visit when we come back to SLC.
I came in October and enjoyed a lot. I loved the way everything was covid adapted, gave a pen to interact with the screens and stuff, disinfectant gel, distancing, etc. They have plenty of things and it is very kid friendly. I only think that it was a bit small and could have shown more things, but overall very happy
Nice to not have as crowded compared to pre covid. Some interactive exhibits are closed off like the sand and water erosion table, a few are modified like the climate change game only one group at a time. Antarctic exhibit is cool! They also added seismic charts from the windstorm september 2020 which was pretty cool. Now exhibits use a stylus to interact rather than touching with a finger.
Fun! My son loved it. Friendly and helpful staff. Only wish there were MORE Dino bones!
Be it student of archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, or just a spectator interested in the history of the native people of Utah and/or the prehistory of Earth before man, this is an incredible museum!Such an in depth examination of the clothes, artifacts, tools etc of the Utes and Navajos, complete with video footage and interviews of Native American people explaining what their history means to them. And of course, my favorite part, the floor dedicated to the dinosaurs! The displays of the dream-like titans that dominated the planet with colossal strides fill me with awe when I walk on that floor! And I keep looking forward to coming here again and again!
This was a fantastic experience on our recent road trip from Washington state to Louisiana, we stopped in Salt Lake City for the night and came here the next day. We took our 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. On this 16 day road trip, we have been to multiple museums and I would say this was by far our favorite.
My granddaughter loves so I took her to see the antarctic exhibit. Very well put together.
Such a wonderful museum in a beautiful location. Ive visited here a few times, with the most recent being to see their Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed exhibition. The layout of the exhibits was the perfect balance of being visually stimulating, while also easy to follow. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The architecture takes full advantage of natural light and borrows on many of Utahs natural environmental strengths. Not only is the museum itself a great place to visit, but touring the grounds outside on a clear day is a wonderful treat in itself.
Fun place. It has been designed well. They have covid protections in place and they provide you with a stylus pen to touch things with. They only have so many tickets for time slots to help with crowd control separation.
So many cool exhibits and a great place to let your little one or “little one” at heart roam around and see all the neat things that Utah has to offer. Clearly the dinosaurs are pretty amazing but all of the different levels fun experiences that your family will love. If you are an employee or student of the University of Utah you get in for free. It’s a pretty sweet deal since the museum can get pretty expensive depending on how many people are in your group. While there we got to go into the archives which was pretty amazing. I’ll definitely be back.
I love seeing the history of Native Americans, and also the fossils of dinosaurs that was found here in Utah. It was amazing to see them. It was my first time seeing and going to the National History Museum of Utah. I would definitely come back here.I never saw a dinosaur fossil in my life. Only now thats why this will be a memorable day for me.
Really cool museum. Very nice and clean. They also have a generous military discount between memorial day and labor day. I deeply appreciate this.We saw the Mayan exhibit in this trip and it was a little smaller than expected for the cost, but we really enjoyed it. There were quite a few activities that engaged my kids which made it suitable for bringing them. They did get bored eventually but we got some good mileage out of it.We plan on visiting again.
Only one of the dinosaur skeletons was real (which is a single skull), the rest are all cast from bones that are stored elsewhere. That kinda ruined it for me. Really cool structure though, a lot of other great exhibits worth exploring.
Awesome exhibits! Great views of the Great Salt Lake Valley. Nice place to have a picnic lunch and look out over the territory.
Awesome architecture, great exhibits, would be great for an event! Plus the view of the valley is spectacular. Take the kids here in parts, its too much to explore in just one day. This is the place to go if you are looking to kill some time in Salt Lake City! Best collection of dinosaur bones Ive ever seen. But even better, great walks from here!
Fantastic building. The nature inside is connected with the outside. On every floor is a door to go outside. At the top roof they made a roof garden were you can lie in a chair and enjoy the view over Salt Lake City and the Wasatch mountains. Inside is a huge collection of the natural history of Utah. When you visit Salt Lake City this museum is a must!!!!
This museum is fabulous and worth every penny. The diversity exhibits is incredible! The creativity behind each interactive explanation of the world we live in is truly impressive. A visit here is truly a treat and inspires one to learn more and care for the amazing world we live in. Aside from the experience of walking through history and peeking into multiple branches of science, the employees were kind and bathrooms clean. You should definitely visit!
Great exhibits and very informative about the region. Enjoyed the inclusiveness of the Native and First People perspective. Layout was great and easy to follow with a good flow between exhibits.
It was so clean! I felt safe, I loved that they give you a stylus to interact with some of the features. Gift shop and cafe was closed.
Super fun place to take your kids! Lots of fun activities, and lots to learn about. Love the different exhibits, super sad they’re closing their Mayan exhibit for a bit, but hopefully it will reopen with new updates, and is able to wow other guests taking a trip there.
Very cool museum, huge collection in the Dino area. Their COVID modifications still let us enjoy everything the museum has to offer.
Very much museum. So much science. Very nature. Exhibits on dinosaurus, geology, native Americans, among other things. Some fun little things for the kids, which are equally fun for adults. Of youre good for the price give it a go.
This was a great natural history museum. There are tons of exhibits to see. We loved the minerals and rocks along with wall that viewed into the storage room. What a fun place to work there were specimens everywhere. The classroom on the top floor was adorable and the people working the exhibits were so knowledgeable and good with the kids!
We decided to visit this museum somewhat last minute, not really knowing what to expect or doing much research other than looking at other google reviews. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the building and the number of exhibits they had! We spent most of the afternoon here. The exhibits cater to all ages and there is something for everyone. Very interesting information and a lot of stuff to look at.We came on a Saturday and it was very busy but there was plenty of room for everyone and we were still able to see everything without it being a hassle. Overall a great museum and a great experience!
The museum was very interesting. There are 5 floors of displays to view. It will take several hours or multiple days to see everything. It has everything from dinosaurs to native American artifacts to gems and weather stations etc. There are outside terraces weather permitting. Prices are 10 for kids, 13 for young adults to age 24 and 15 for adults. It is open until 9 pm and there are some free days. There is free parking at the museum.
What a fun visit. A beautiful facility with lots of hands-on activities for kids. Knowledgeable docents added to our visit. I highly recommend this place
Great place, massive amounts of knowledge, 5 floors, expensive though for people on a budget.
This museum was great. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to learn something about the past. There is alot of interactive things to do at this museum. This would be a great place to bring children to have them learn about many different things from human evolution to dinosaurs to astronomy. Definitely worth the money.
For our family of six, this is definitely a multi-visit museum. The currently Mayan exhibit was enough to keep our kids busy for hours. They all liked the AR modules, too. But seeing dinosaur skeletons is the best. When my kindergartners realized the bones they were looking at were just the head and that this head was bigger than the two of them combined, their understanding of size and scale completely changed. Cant wait to go back again.
Great learning experience, extremely informative and artistic. Dino week was fun!
One of the best natural history museums I’ve visited, such an impressive dinosaur exhibit! I also loved the focus on native Utah ecology and highlights from local indigenous peoples. I highly recommend taking time to walk through every exhibit. They have phenomenal interactives for all ages throughout. There’s gorgeous vistas on each side of the museum, and some hiking trails behind too. A family or individual could easily spend a whole day here.
Cool museum, I spent 2 hours looking at the exhibits. My friends and I had a great time learning about utahs natural history.
Me and my daughter loved it. Well have to come back after Covid is under control.
Love this place, nephew loves coming too. Put together really well... with the pandemic though its been not so great, but not their fault
My first time here was working a as a casino dealer for a company party. When they did some announcements I had about 30 minutes to run around the museum like a nerdy youth. Didnt have time to see it all but loved the way its set up and cant wait to go back to enjoy the upper levels as much as I did the dinosaur area
We enjoyed our visit. Great exhibits, many interactive exhibits for young and old alike. If you have a dinosaur lover, you must visit the museum. The prehistoric fossils are amazing. There is also information about digs, and you are able to view people cleaning off fossils in their glass laboratory.
Great place to take a family for an outing. Great exhibits!
This is based on their current covid scheduling. When you pay for a time slot it gives you an hour time range to arrive by. We drove there and were told we could not go in, even with paid tickets and within the time frame we signed up for. The confirmation emails do not mention you have to arrive by certain time only a time range for us 1pm-2pm, the next session was already full so we couldn’t even get in for hours. Frustrating especially for families driving far and having to walk out with kids who don’t understand why we can’t go inside.
This was our first time here. We only had 1.5 hours to see it because it was on a Sunday and we got there late but boy we make the best of it. Its so spacious on the inside. And theres stop much to see. Like dinosaurs? They have em. Space stuff? They have some too. Old native American displays? That too and do much more. Youll need the whole day to see it all. The family and I will be back
I loved the museum. You can really educate yourself here. Theres so much to see. Five floors. The top floor is called Sky about the Native American Indians; beautiful exhibition. And you can actually see the sky. The first floor has the huge dinosaur exhibition. You can see real paleontologists at work. All floors have activities for children. This is a very instructive place and super beautiful. The middle floors are the history of everything else about humanity.
Unbelievable! Breathtaking! Must see! So much to see so much to do! Spent 5 hours scoping out every nook and cranny. What an absolutely fantastic day! The food is a tad pricey, but it was delicious and the service was top notch.
Worth the time and money. Reps are nice and kind. Kids were very happy and excited.
This is like a wonderland, but with real things - and directions. Serious directions. Just the amount of dinosaur fossils is enough to soak a day - or two. (We didnt have a full days stay.) But Natural History Museum of Utah is much more than that. I have never seen so many type specimens in one place, dinosaur or non-dinosaur. Must be a heaven for researchers, too. If I go to Salt Lake City again, I will want to visit this museum again.
This is one of the funnest museums I have been too! With each level of historic artifacts, theres a little play area for kids to apply what theyre learning! Areas for kids to draw or cast their vote for what they think happened to the dinosaurs. Lots of interactive things for all ages. Even young kids our entertainment have fun. The activities and Benz of toys creative fun learning atmosphere thats always the displays have a good amount of information to read for the adults and eye-catching colors for the kids. Its a little pricey but if you get the season pass, I think its worth it. The student discount is offered to go to the University of Utah or a different School. I used to doing this weekend and Im grateful for that haha theres also a cafe with some delicious food and a mini gift shop.
We had a great time. We went on a Wednesday $5 after 5 deal. We didnt even get enough time to finish before we had to head home. Im sure we will be back again if they do anymore saver days.
The kids love this place. Lots of stuff to see and also have interactive displays. Its a little on the pricey side.
This is one of the best natural history museums Ive ever visited!! The displays are amazing and as are the bones of a newly discovered dinosaur. We loved the mineral and gem area, fossils and many other areas. This is a great place to take your kids and old kids like my hubby and I!! Its a must see in Salt Lake City.
Loved this museum! If you have a dinosaur fan in your family this is a can not miss! For adults and kids alike theres something educational and captivating to look at, and even smell!
I adore the NHMU. Its a world-class museum and a treasure of the state. The fossil exhibits are equal to those at the Labrea tarpits. I also really appreciate the indigenous peoples exhibits, the educational exhibits on the local ecology, and the seasonal exhibits. The top floor has an excellent deck with a view of the entire valley and beyond that is breathtaking.A must-visit for anyone living in or visiting the SLC area.
This is an amazing museum with beautiful exhibits. Many of the fossils on display were discovered right here in Utah or nearby. There are 5 floors that have different exhibits. The Native American exhibits and collection of artifacts was quite impressive as well. They have plenty of activities for children as well.
The museum had some very interesting exhibits, particularly the dinosaurs, gem collection, and astronomy/meteorology. Unfortunately the exhibit I originally went to the museum for is overwhelmingly unimpressive... they were showcasing an exhibit regarding Yellowstone National Park. Ive been to Yellowstone many times and just love it! I highly recommend going at least once in your lifetime, and if not for the amazing geysers than at the minimum go for the scenery and the beautiful hiking trails and abundant wildlife; anyways I digress. The Yellowstone exhibit was very disappointing as Ive said, its quite literally the same size as one and a half of my garage... I have a large 2 car garage with some space off to the side where 2 four wheelers (large ones) and 2 motorcycles (dirt bikes) can fit, so as you can tell, it was NOT a large exhibit at all!P.S. Yellowstone is best visited in the spring or late summer/early fall. During the heat of the summer the animals are less likely to be out-n-about, plus if you visit in spring you get to see all the babies l and if youre lucky maybe wolf pups!
Neat clean sanitized continuously .... kids really enjoyed there....we will keep coming here
DINOSAURS!!! Such a fun place! I love taking the kiddos to see so much fun and interactive history.
Really interesting museum and fun. We were lucky and came on a day it was free. The kids loved it.
This was great and had a lot of cool information about Utah. HAVE TO MAKE RESERVATION BEFORE GOING
With Saurophaganax and Allosaurus is like modern day wolves and coyotes. Both dinosaur carnivores are in the Allosauria family, but one substantially bigger than the other. and Whats the matter aint you got what kit takes Hey kids go onto Langanen Jurassic Fight club, I play the raptor you guys play as majungasaurus, T. rex, stegosaurus, and Pachyrhinosaurus. Be Prehistoric worlds best fighter if you dare. Allosaurus beats the crud out of a Tanycolagreus. Allosaurus was one of the most fearsome predatory dinosaurs in the Jurassic Period. So instead of hunting fully grown adult herbivores, Allosaurus may have focused the hunt on juvenile prey. Allosaurus is like a real life version of the Indoraptor. Allosaurus 2 meters tall 8 meters long, 1.5 tons. Indoraptor was 3 meters tall 8 meters long and weighed about a ton.
Simply amazing, well thought out exhibits that will teach something no matter your education level.
Loved this museum! Would recommend starting from the top and working your way down. There were a lot of fun interactive things. I enjoyed the wind tunnel that demonstrated how sand dunes are shaped by the wind. Would definitely like to visit again!
If you are interested in dinosaurs we highly recommend the Natural History Museum. Utah has been a great state to discover dinosaurs, they have a wonderful display and the design of the other exhibitions are wonderful. I love the activities they plan for kids and the conferences. We love to go to Salt Lake City to be part of this. Museums are a great part of our lives. You can discover a whole new world and learn more about the beauty around us.The museums design is excelente and they have an area for nature and it explain about the animals and it’s habitat. They are a terraza and it has a wonderful view of the valley. It is breathtaking! Cómo am join un in this adventure!
A wonderful museum which took the 4 of us adults about 2 hours. It has elevators, ramps and stairs for ease of access to just about any crowd. We started at the bottom and worked our way up through time. Exploring Dinos to cool rocks, insects, then a more modern era. It was well worth the money and worth the drive from just about anywhere. All ages would enjoy this museum!! 10/10 recommend to friends and family.
Definitely worth the entrance fee! Spent two hours here on a snowy Sunday and loved every minute. The dinosaur exhibit is the clear gem, but other exhibits are well done, too.
This place does a great job of telling the story of Utah before the pioneers.
I loved going here so much. The first exhibit you walk into is all like whoa! Dinosaurs! Like from our back yard! So. Many. Dinos. Next thing you know youre learning about rocks and gems and flooding the salt lake valley by making it rain a whoooooole lot. then native Americans. The interactiveness of the exhibits was awesome. Putting together some pot shards or showing how soil erosion carves out the landscape. Then youre in space. Really, this place was worth the trip and thoroughly enjoyable.
Fun interactive exhibits, great for kids 5-99 years old. Cool new things since the last time I visited. They seem to update often with new exhibits.
Great collection of dinosaur fossils, a thorough display on Utah’s geological history, and many interactive displays! This museum was a great experience.
Really enjoyed this museum! Wonderful exhibits and beautifully designed. The view from the roof was spectacular! And, the same for the Cafe. Not to be missed!
As a history nerd I LOVE this place. My daughter has had field trips multiple times here and I am at every one. We always come back as a family to spend more time and just explore it all in even more depth. There is so much to see and do while here that it truly could be an all day experience! They always tend to have a new exhibit every once in a while that keeps me wanting to come back and check it out.
Plan on spending a lot of time as there is so much to see.
Very educational and hands on. Great for kids of all ages, even very little kids can see and reach things at their eye level. You definitely need to go more than once to see and experience all the things!
Place is amazing and great for the kids to learn and grow. Definitely will go back.
Great displays and layout...makes the learning experience as interesting and enjoyable as it should be.
This relatively new, architect really stunning, completely energy efficient attraction is definitely worth it! The location is spectacular and provides amazing views of the valley day and night! The contrast of the very modern architecture against some of the ancient artifacts is a great juxtaposition. The shape of the building makes for a very natural flow for the tourist. I recommend starting at the top and slowly working back down. The dinosaur, Native American art, and gemstone exhibits were my personal favorites.I can see why this attraction is rated number 1 on TripAdvisor.
Wonderful exhibits. The staff were kind and helpful. I particularly appreciated the respect given to the Native American heritage and protected by allowing them to speak for themselves. The images and quotes are profound.
Theres so much to see there including dinosaur bones animals rocks and many other interesting topics. The staff was nice too. The gift shop was a little small for the size of the place but still was decent.
Amzing architecture. Very thoughtful display of Native American Artifacts. The scientific displays are very interactive for both kids and adults.
This is a very sophisticated museum, with a great variety of historic artifacts and ancient bones. Great learning and fun center for every age.
NHMU is easily one of my favorite places ever. Their permanent exhibits are awe-inspiring. intriguing Their temporary exhibits are always intriguing. They have the best views of the valley. They have a wonderful gift shop and coffee shop too. Their summer camp and education outreach programs are off the charts. And to top it all off, they bring in delightful events like the “Chocolate and Cheese Festival” and the “Norse Festival.” I look for any excuse I can to go.
A great place to take the kids. Its educational and fun. Wednesdays you can go for $5 after 5 PM.
Amazing dinosaur exhibit. Highly recommended. Had lunch in the cafe there as well and food was awesome and super fresh. Staff is really friendly as well. $15 to get in and you can expect to spend at least 2 hours there, more if you want to read all the info or if you have children wanting to play.
This is a fantastic museum. If you love fossils and always yearned to be a paleontologist then this is the place for you. There is also a great geological presentation. Currently at the top level there is a display educating visitors about several native American tribes indigenous to the region. Its family friendly but not as chaotic as the aquarium.
We always enjoy a trip to the Natural History Museum. It is a lovely museum in terms of architecture as well as in the lay out of the exhibits. Great views of the city as well on a nice clear day when the upper terrace is open. A great place to visit with kids if you are in town visiting or if you have family in town.Wednesdays are also a great deal where the museum stays open late and you can get a ticket after 5pm for $5!
As a Belgian tourist to SLC one of my No. 1 priorities of places to see was the NHMU. Now Ive already visited quite a bit of NHMs but never, ever seen such an amazing and large collection of dinosaurs and fossils as here in SLC. Absolutely stunning! Obviously thats where I spent most of my time. Also very interesting were the items on display of the Native American Tribes : going from ancient moccasins and pottery to woven baskets. The architectural side of the museum building definately caught my eye : beautiful to look at!I travelled by TRAX (Red line) from downtown, got off passed Fort Douglas and walked all the way uphill towards the museum.I combined my visit at the Museum with a hike on Bonneville Shoreline Trail which is located right next/behind the NHMU. Youll get to see some nice views from there When in SLC a visit to the Museum is an absolute must and definately worth your while!
Great place for photos.Beautiful sweeping views of the valley. Trail walk path is wonderful, great for all ages.Plan to spend 1 to 3 hours at this location.
Wonderful, informative, displays which are constantly changing. We have been there 4 times and still enjoy it.
Not particularly expensive. Worth your time.
A Fantastic Educational ExperienceThe NHMU is a fantastic museum. The variety of exhibits is amazing. From the history of the indigenous people, the dinosaur exhibits, how the Salt Lake was formed to the info about conservation and recycling. Everything was well presented and informative. One of the best exhibits was the observation deck on the roof. There is an amazing panoramic view of the Wasatch mountains and the Salt Lake valley.
Price is around 15 dolar per person. But it worth definitely. Very well organized. You can see everything without using map.
Very nice museum with a great collection of dinosaurs!
